Enjoy a rare vacation getaway in this rustic lakeside cottage in the woods. Nicknamed Battsford, it was built in the late 1930s, when people went to their 'camps' to find peace and quiet in natural surroundings. Nestled in the heart of 36 private acres, it is full of period charm, with a fieldstone fireplace and a front porch for relaxing and taking in the spectacular Belknap Mountains across Lake Winnipesaukee. A little beach makes wading or launching canoes/kayaks easy, and you can fish off the jetty. One dock slip for a small motor/sail boat is available for an additional fee. Private tennis court recently refinished. This is the perfect spot for an outdoorsy couple looking for a romantic interlude or a family wanting to spend old-fashioned summer time with the kids.

Notes: This cabin, built c. 1940, is a rustic, secluded treasure 50 feet from the shore. The stone fireplace showcases the masonry of the period, and draws extremely well for a bright, warm fire. Kitchen/bath facilities are minimal, but adequate. Outdoor grilling, either on the charcoal grill or the wood stove, along with beautiful views and sunsets make evening dining a special treat. Kayaks available on request.

Battsford was the perfect getaway and just what we needed! The owners are fabulous and make sure that they are available if you need anything but give you all the privacy in the world. If you are looking to relax in a spot with beautiful scenery and sunsets this is the place! The cabin was clean, the property was well maintained, and it looked just like the pictures. We will definitely be back!

Staying at Battsford makes your imagination run wild. What must it have been like in a simpler time with few amenities (that you realize are unnecessary), unplugged days, awakening by loons vs. alarms. Views of the lake that change several times a day, thunderstorms where you can watch the storm move from Meredith to your front porch in a matter of minutes. If you are looking quiet relaxation and beauty, look no further!

Our only disappointment was the weather! Rained 5 of our 6 days. we still found things to do. Excellant location away form it all! Nice quiet and a wonderful view of the lake and mountains. lots of hiking nearby.Mt Washington about an hours drive away. Very cozy with a nice fireplace.Our dog loved it too!! We also enjoyed listening and seeing the loons from our living room and bedroom.

I hope the cottage never changes. If you would like to get away from it all this is the place to be. can't beat the views. Enjoyed our visit with the owner, very helpful. We will stay 2 weeks next year for sure!

Don't stay if your looking for t.v. internet or crowds. Do stay if your looking for the best outside adventures and nice people.
