A restored Craftsman Bungalow built mostly of reclaimed lumber from the Buena Esperanza Plantation. A 2 bedroom with King size beds, 2 baths, features a full kitchen, dining room, living room ,an inglenook with a twin daybed. There is a screen porch for enjoying the garden and passersby. Decorated with many unique boat models and sailing photographs. The Bungalow is situated In the heart of the Downtown, just blocks from the bay front, the many boat yards of St. Augustine and the beautiful Lake Maria Sanchez. The latter is a beautiful place to walk and bicycle. The Buena Esperanza neighborhood contains what has been described as one of the best collections of Victorian homes in St. Augustine.
This cottage was the most charming “rental” I’ve ever stayed in! I didn’t feel like I was in a rental property, but a friend’s home. It was so warm, comfortable, convenient and safe feeling. My mother and I rented this property for my sister for the month of January, as a 60th birthday present, to allow her to “get away” and relax, which is just what she did! It was small enough for her to feel comfortable being there by herself, but large enough for her to host friends and family at different times. The cottage is beautifully restored and taken care of, with the owners personal “artifacts” everywhere. There is even a book that talks about many of the items in the house. The rooms are open and with 3 adults there, we all found our own quiet space when needed. The kitchen is fully stocked, modern and very user friendly. The beds were comfortable and 1 small and 1 large closet and hooks everywhere made living there easy and tidy. We loved the front porch and back patio spaces as well.
The location of the house was perfect for us, as we love walking! It is a short walk to the little Maria Sanchez Lake with a friendly path around it, and also about a 10-15 minute walk to downtown St Augustine, which we did often. We walked everywhere and found some great shops and restaurants, which there are plenty of! One of our favorite streets was Aviles St, in the downtown area, which reminded us of being somewhere in Europe. It’s a narrow little street, with historic houses, restaurants and shops. Walking down St George Street is must, a bit touristy, but a very colorful scene! Stop at Sangrias Wine & Tapas Bar (corner of Hypolita & St George St.), for a delicious glass of Sangria, live music and the best people watching on St George Street from the upstairs balcony! Our other favorite spot was the Tini Martini Bar, in the Casablanca Inn, overlooking Matanzas Bay. Perfect spot to rest after a Ghost walking tour!
All in all I cannot say enough about this fabulous cottage. The owner Brigid was very responsive to inquiries, and communicated with us very promptly when asked, but left us alone as well to just enjoy her wonderful home! We would highly recommend this cottage to anyone!
We really had a wonderful stay here for a whole month in summer 2014, over from the UK. The property is as lovely as it looks, the area is perfect - quiet and leafy but near the centre of the town, the property has everything you could possibly want in it - the owners attention to detail is exOur baby was born while we were over there and Brigid
The photos of this lovely home due it no justice. Much love and care has gone into creating such a special retreat. I was visiting St Augustine to celebrate my son's 30th Birthday. It is a special place where my parents were married in 1942. I wanted him to see the Old City. Although it rained during much of our stay; we were delighted to spend time in this home and would advise anyone who plans to visit St Augustine, not to miss this opportunity to experience not just the beauty of this city, but the homeowner's attention to detail from floor to ceiling. Will for sure be booking this place again. Just marvelous! Thank You!!! for making our stay perfect. We loved Rhett's Piano Bar where we had a marvelous dinner and my son was serenaded at a front row seat in the lounge after dinner. We loved the kitchen too, as we are all chefs! Only wish there had been some bicycles!
I so so enjoyed my stay at this bungalow. It was everything and more as soon as I opened the door. The home exhibited so much love and care from the cleanliness to the great nautical theme throughout. It was so comfortable inside and out. The neighborhood walks were peaceful. Neighbors were friendly. I will definitely be coming back.
This is a wonderful place to stay!
Great location - in a beautiful neighborhood with many historic Victorian homes, and a nice long walk or a quick drive away from the main tourist center of St. Augustine. The nearby boat yard and the lake are also beautiful places to walk around.
The house itself was charmingly decorated, clean, comfortable, and well maintained - plenty of extra towels, blankets, fully-equipped kitchen, not to mention thoughtful little extras like maps and interesting books about the history of the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, and would recommend it to anyone visiting St. Augustine!
We enjoyed a wonderful winter getaway at this charming property. We have rented homes twice in the Bahamas and France, and found Seafarer's Bungalow to be outfitted the best of all. The descriptions are accurate, and everything was comfortable and clean. It is rare to find a kitchen so ready for guests to prepare meals.
We enjoyed the front porch, and looked forward to seeing the horses and carriages passing by, and the driver waving hello and tipping his hat. The back patio is comfortable and private.
The walk downtown is about 15 minutes and there are several routes to take. We purchased bicycles and enjoyed touring the neighbourhood and also going into town. The tourist centre is a great place to leave bicycles while lunching or strolling along George St.
Our favourite place to eat was Nona's Italian restaurant on Avila St. Also, Mojo's BBQ has a very pleasant less crowded patio at the rear of the restaurant and we enjoyed that as well. There are several galleries worth visiting as well.
Brigid is professional and easy to work with. We stayed at the bungalow for eight weeks, and she made us feel welcome to contact her ask for any information about the city and to check that we were happy with everything.
We will definitely recommend this home to friends and relatives.
