Running the Farmhouse has been a very rewarding venture over the last 7 years and the house has a charming character all it's own. The 6 acres of trails and trees along with an old burr oak tree in the backyard, the circle of pink and blue hydrangas along with the other sun-loving sunflowers reaching to the sky provide a tranquil setting of our hobby farm at the Farmhouse! And the horses grazing in the pasture beyond the view of the backyard makes you feel like you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of 'real' life! The Farmhouse is a way for me to enjoy my love of gardening, animals, and just being outdoors. In addition to running the Farmhouse I work full-time at the University of Notre Dame.

Wendy wolfe purchased this farmhouse in 2006

I love the Farmhouse and it's historical heritage. I think all things old should be treated with love and respect and cherished. I love the Farmhouse and all that it represents of America and our heritage from days of old.

The atmosphere at the Farmhouse is refreshing and tranquil. It's charm and allure inside is just as wonderful outside on the deck looking out past the Big 100 plus old Burr Oak Tree and the fields that follow. Inside the house is decorated with antiques and country items from old. It's a great place for families or couples and provides a roomy yet cozy environment for reunions, romantic get-aways or just about any reason! It's not every day that one gets to stay in a well-maintained Farmhouse! I highly recommend it... who knows you may even enjoy the fresh sheets that we hang on the line for our guests when weather permits and perhaps you'll enjoy using the clothesline yourself... The horses, cats and pet lamb... just add to the fun and it's a great chance for kids to learn about farm animals in a fun and safe environment! I'm taken by the amazing things kids say and I truly think a stay at the Farmhouse is something you and your kids will remember for a lifetime...

What a great place!!

This place is a hidden treasure for a family wanting a great experience of spending time together. The kids had so much fun, they could have stayed at the house the entire time we were in town. SO many toys and things to look at. Every time they opened a drawer or closet there was something new..... it was like a treasure hunt. The pictures are 100% accurate but they can't portray the feeling of the home. Wendy was great. She worked with us on short notice for the reservation and things couldn't have turned out better. For us it was the best thing about South Bend Indiana

ND-BYU and Thanksgiving

We arrived on the Thursday before the BYU game and stayed until the Friday after Thanksgiving. Two families, so 8 of us. This was my second stay at the house and once again it was fabulous. It really felt like I was coming home for the holiday. My daughter goes to ND, so we stayed thru Thanksgiving and even hosted several of her friends for Thanksgiving dinner who couldn't make it to their own homes. I thought the one bathroom situation might get old, but seriously, it was never an issue. We brought clothes knowing we would need to do wash and the washer and dryer worked very well. Spent Sunday and Monday in South Bend, then Tuesday in Amish country and Wednesday we took the South Shore commuter train from the airport to Chicago and visited the Aquarium and Planetarium, had some deep dish pizza for lunch, did a bit of shopping and took the train back to South Bend. Thursday we were at the house all day and never felt crowded. Played games, watched football, ate turkey and ham and all the fixins. I should also mention that this place has such easy and simple driving access not only to Notre Dame but also the airport. We had really cold weather, and were comfortable in the house, but it is an old house, so can be on the cool side. But there are plenty of extra blankets (and pillows for that matter). Plenty of hot water for showers. Plenty of dishes and silverware for a Thanksgiving dinner for 12. Oh yeah, we will be back.

Owner's Response: Andy,

Thank you for the wonderful review! I'm so happy that you'll be back and that you and your family were so happy with the Farmhouse. I'm sorry about the house seeming cold... usually it's on the warm side so I'm thinking we had the heat setting too low since it was such a cold weekend. Next time just let us know if anything needs adjusting and we'll be sure to make it right. :) Merry Christmas!

OUTSTANDING

My girlfriend and I had the great good fortune to spend a week at the Farmhouse. Our ONLY regret is that we weren’t able to stay longer. The owners were cheerful, accommodating, solicitous and as warm as an Indiana evening in June. The house is spotless, appointed with a dizzying array of curios and features a charming front porch with requisite swing and a spacious back terrace equipped with a formidable Weber grill. In short, it feels like how home should feel. My dearest insisted that I take pains to mention that virtually EVERYTHING one could possibly require for day-to-day comfort is readily available. Potato chip bag clip? Check. Silverware? Check. Coffee machine? Internet? Laz-E-Boy recliner? Check check check. Suffice it to say we were left wanting for nothing.
We live in a big, crowded European city so we were particularly tickled by the creatures great and small that made up the Farmhouse menagerie. We’re both insanely fond of cats and we were endlessly pleased by the fuzzy parade of felines that made our morning coffee that much better. My better half enjoyed a ride in Rusty’s cart as they cantered along at a brisk clip while I parked myself on the back porch to work on my tan.
In short, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Farmhouse to anyone who’s looking for a unique experience far beyond the pale of predictable hotel/motel accommodations.

We are just a short 25-30 minute drive on beautiful backroads with vege stands and all kinds of country fun to get to New Buffulo and Lake Michigan! About 40 minutes drive from St. Joe/Benton Harbor. We are in Indiana but just across the Michigan State line so we are a great spot for Michigan visitors too!
