Woodstock Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 bedroom, 1 bath, meditation room, woodland view, swimming hole across street

Our house. A loft, but not lofty. Cute, but not kitschy. Cool, but not cold. And close to absolutely everything. Near the center of town, yet tucked away from it all, Woodstock Haven is set well-back from the road on four private acres. We're within walking distance to the NYC bus, so no car is necessary. But if you have wheels; we have off-street parking. Rustic on the outside, luxurious on the inside, it's a modern oasis replete with soaring cathedral ceilings, nine-foot tall southerly windows, reclaimed cherry floors, stainless steel appliances, a deep soaking tub for two, air conditioning, a wood burning fireplace, plus free wi-fi. Add the long outdoor deck with a view of nothing but woods and gardens, and you have a perfect, romantic couple's retreat. While the meditation room could serve as a guest room, because there is only one bathroom off the loft bedroom, the Haven is best enjoyed as a romantic couple's getaway or a retreat for a couple with young children. For couples traveling together, we are happy to recommend neighboring rentals (if you'd like to lodge separately) or larger properties that could accommodate everyone. We're an environmentally friendly home. Passive solar, radiant heat, on demand water heater, all organic cleansers and soaps, HEPA vacuum, VOC-free paint.

Interior Features: Lie in bed and gaze at the stars through three large picture windows at your feet as you luxuriate in 600 thread count organic cotton sheets. Stretch out on the chaise by the fire with a throw and a book. Watch the sun make kaleidoscope patterns on the floor as it passes through our glorious, 10-foot tall Gothic stained glass window. Or retreat to the meditation room with its softly flowing tapestries and many, many, many pillows. Enjoy a glass of wine on the deck and listen to the shushing of the trees. Perhaps you'll have a visit from one of our deer, turkeys, rabbits, red tailed hawks or fox. Take advantage of our yoga and pilates dvds; or book a private training session or massage here at the Haven. Make scones in our chef-quality convection oven. Barbecue on the grill. Find a spot in the garden and watch the bees. Snooze in the hammock. Wend your way through our woods.

Nearby Activities: Should you venture away from paradise, the town, the swimming hole, restaurants and shops are only a few steps away. Rent a bike and peddle Woodstock’s quaint village roads. On your way through town center, stop at the local farmer's market, flea market or one of two organic supermarkets and fill your baskets to the brim with fresh fruits and produce. If free-range chicken and organic beef are in your diet, stop at the Woodstock Meats, too. If yoga is your thing, try the Woodstock Yoga Center. All are within easy walking distance.

We're Environmentally Friendly: The Woodstock Haven was constructed using green building techniques. We have passive solar, radiant heat, and an on-demand water heater that never runs out. We use all organic cleansers, soaps, and low VOC paints. Visit our website below

About Raye, Woodstock Haven

I'm a writer who enjoys playing with color in my spare time. Gardening has become something of an obsession.

Raye, Woodstock Haven purchased this cottage in 2003

Why Raye, Woodstock Haven chose Woodstock

We wanted something close to town so we wouldn't need a car. At the same time, we didn't want to be sandwiched between neighbors. This property definitely fit the bill: it feels as if we're in the middle of nowhere, but we're less than 1/2 mile from anything we could possibly want. The swimming hole across the street was a huge bonus! Combine that with the forested acreage in back - we've got the best of all possible worlds. It's private, but not remote.

What makes this cottage unique

The stained glass window is utterly mesmerizing. The soaking tub is decadently luxurious (along with so many other touches in the house - DWR, Calvin Klein, Angela Adams, Modernica furnishings, original art works by up and coming and established painters, mixed in with eclectic flea market finds). It's cozy enough for a couple - you don't feel like you're wasting a lot of space - but if friends join you, the meditation room allows everyone to have adequate privacy. The 24-foot high ceilings and the wall of windows make the house feel larger than it is and keep it flooded with sunlight. Unlike many 'in town' cottages, The Haven truly is private, set well-back from both the road and neighbors. And because it's new construction, the cottage does not have the issues older homes have (but does have all of the charm.) We love giving people the opportunity to experience what it's like to live in Woodstock, even if it's only for a little while. And they couldn't pick a better location for that experience than the Haven.

We want to live here!

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I visited the Woodstock Haven for three nights in December 2013 after having just gotten engaged whilst visiting NYC. Firstly, I have never wanted to live somewhere so much in all my life. The owners Raye and Ken have thought of everything right down to the last detail including Le Creuset cookware which we were especially excited about! The bathroom was a sanctuary, the garden was magic, the kitchen unbelievable, the bedroom perfect, the lounge area fabulous and the artwork beautiful and inspiring. The lady that greeted us was not Raye, it was her property manager who was also wonderful and gave us a great tour of the cottage. Raye kept in touch over email during our stay to make sure that everything was going well, she was so lovely. We were snowed in overnight which was fine with us as we didn’t need to go anywhere however, a local kindly ploughed his way up the drive and set our car free. The cottage is spectacular and both of us would live there if we could! The centre of town was easily accessible on foot and has everything you need including great cafes and shops. We hope to be back one day in the future and we happily recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a relaxing escape away.

Fantastic escape from the city

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely long weekend at the cottage and wish it did not have to end. The experience was great right from the start. Raye made the rental process extremely easy and gave us a great tour / overview of the property upon arrival. The location of the cottage is great. We were able to easily walk to town to enjoy the shops and explore the scenic surrounding areas with just a short drive (thank you for the hiking suggestion). After exploring and enjoying the area, the cottage provided the perfect environment to relax and let any remaining stress melt away. If you are looking for the perfect place for a couples get away in this area, you can not do better than this. We hope to be back soon.

Thank you Raye!

This trip was a surprise for my partner's birthday. I searched for locations within a two hour ride from our home. The photos and description caught my eye immediately. It seemed almost too good to be true! Upon arrival, Raye was there to greet us, give us the tour and light a fire for us. Everything was as wonderful or better than expected. Raye was very accommodating and a phone call away when necessary. The house is well-equipped, comfortable and designed with an artistic touch. My only hesitation about writing this review is a selfish wish to keep it a bit undiscovered so that it will be available when we want to come back! I would recommend this to anyone wanting to relax in a beautiful well-loved house. We hope to return when the gardens are in full bloom! Thanks Raye! Linda and Diane, New Haven, CT

A beautiful oasis and perfect romantic get-away!

  • 5 of 5

Woodstock Haven is a wonderful oasis of comfort and beauty. We stayed at the Haven for our honeymoon in early November and could not have enjoyed ourselves more. Everything about it was absolutely perfect!

The Haven was clearly designed with love and intention. First of all, there’s the breathtakingly diverse native landscaping that surrounds the cottage. Even in fall, there were still a few flowers hanging on, not to mention bright purple berries and vividly colored leaves, especially in the surrounding woods. The cottage is set back from the road; that combined with the wooded surroundings make the Haven feel very nicely isolated. And yet, with a very pleasant ten-minute walk, you can be in Woodstock, where there are many delicious restaurants, as well as fun shops to explore. A few more minutes walk from “downtown” Woodstock and you can hike the Comeau Trail, a short but beautiful loop featuring woods, streams, and mountain views. But back to the cottage itself: The inside is decorated with comfortable and functional modern furniture, the walls covered with bright, interesting artwork, tons of bright, sunny windows, and even some incredible stained glass. Everything is spotlessly clean. There are modern amenities including a fully-equipped kitchen, wireless internet, a TV with DVD player and Netflix access, and a stereo system you can plug your phone into. But we spent hours just reading on the comfortable couches or staring out the tall windows looking out into the woods, watching wildlife in the yard. At night we were content to feed logs into the awesome fireplace and warm ourselves by the glow of a roaring fire. The cottage also includes many environmentally friendly features, such as a graywater irrigation system, radiant floor heating, native landscaping, and reused building materials.

Woodstock Haven is the perfect place for a relaxing, romantic get-away, especially if you love nature and want to be able to leave your car behind while still having the opportunity to go out and enjoy the many restaurants in Woodstock.

What a treasure! We can’t to go back!

Perfect retreat for me

  • 5 of 5

Everything said by the listing and claimed by the guests is true. This is a special place if you want a peaceful retreat, appreciate design and attention to detail, and want clean and comfortable everything. The owners are super attentive, even after I had to contact them on 2 occasions which I hated to do (once when I couldn't figure out the grill and the second there was an area power outage), but they were great and talked me through what I needed to do.

One thing to note which isn't in the house instruction book (which is very useful), is that there is a compost which I would have used if I had known about it.

Thanks for everything Raye!

Owner's Response: We're so glad you enjoyed your stay! Please don't feel badly about having to call us - we LOVE being able to help with all things large and small! For things that might need hands-on instruction, we're usually less than five minutes away and can scurry over at a moment's notice. Being in the country, small power-outages do occasionally happen up here - but not very often, and they rarely last more than twenty minutes or so. If there's an outage, we check Central Hudson's website and let guests know how many homes have been effected and CH's projected repair time. Usually the outage is just a terrific excuse for a romantic interlude by the fire in flickering candlelight. We provide both the firewood and the candles! If it looks like it's going to be an extended outage (which has only happened once - Hurricane Irene), we're at the ready with alternative lodging suggestions, a refund, or a rescheduling of a guests' stay (whichever option they prefer.) We'll even check Google Maps and tell you the clearest route back home! As for the compost, you're right - I should mention it always! And I will! My garden will thank me and you and all the other guests, too! Thanks for your terrific feedback and please do come again! It was such a pleasure having you.

  • The bedroom is a master suite located on the second floor with stunning woodland views, gorgeous light, and 14 foot high cathedral ceilings. The bedroom contains a sitting area, a private deck, and a bathroom with soaking tub and shower. There is a small screen that may be used to block the sleeping area from the rest of the upstairs. The sitting area has a wide-screen TV, an HDMI DVD player with surround sound, and two reclining chairs. (There are two cushioned meditation chairs if the kids want to watch movies, too.) We do not have cable as we are not big TV watchers. However, we do have many movies and TV programs on DVD along with streaming Netflix. The meditation room is downstairs. A pocket door allows guests to close it off from the rest of the house. It's perfect for kids or visiting friends, but there may not be as much privacy as would be desired by two amorous couples, as the upstairs bedroom is an open loft.
