Photos and Description of the Woodstock vacation cottage rental
1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, separate kids' room, woodland view, sleeps 4

Our house. A loft, but not lofty. Cute, but not kitschy. Cool, but not cold. And close to absolutely everything. Near the center of town, yet tucked away from it all, Woodstock Haven is set well-back from the road on four private acres. We're within walking distance to the NYC bus, so no car is necessary. But if you have wheels; we have off-street parking. Rustic on the outside, luxurious on the inside, it's a modern oasis replete with soaring cathedral ceilings, nine-foot tall southerly windows, reclaimed cherry floors, stainless steel appliances, a deep soaking tub for two, air conditioning, a wood burning fireplace, plus free wi-fi. Add the long outdoor deck with a view of nothing but woods and gardens, and you have a perfect, romantic couple's retreat. Although we are a one-bedroom, the meditation room does have a door and could be used as a child's sleeping area or separate guest room. We're an environmentally friendly home. Passive solar, radiant heat, on demand water heater, all organic cleansers and soaps, HEPA vacuum, VOC-free paint.

Interior Features: Lie in bed and gaze at the stars through three large picture windows at your feet as you luxuriate in 600 thread count organic cotton sheets. Stretch out on the chaise by the fire with a throw and a book. Watch the sun make kaleidoscope patterns on the floor as it passes through our glorious, 10-foot tall Gothic stained glass window. Or retreat to the meditation room with its softly flowing tapestries and many, many, many pillows. Enjoy a glass of wine on the deck and listen to the shushing of the trees. Perhaps you'll have a visit from one of our deer, turkeys, rabbits, red tailed hawks or fox. Take advantage of our yoga and pilates dvds; or book a private training session or massage here at the Haven. Make scones in our chef-quality convection oven. Barbecue on the grill. Find a spot in the garden and watch the bees. Snooze in the hammock. Wend your way through our woods.

Nearby Activities: Should you venture away from paradise, the town, the swimming hole, restaurants and shops are only a few steps away. Hop on one of our bikes and peddle Woodstock’s quaint village roads. On your way through town center, stop at the local farmer's market, flea market or one of two organic supermarkets and fill your baskets to the brim with fresh fruits and produce. If free-range chicken and organic beef are in your diet, stop at the Woodstock Meats, too. If yoga is your thing, try the Woodstock Yoga Center. All are within easy walking distance.

We're Environmentally Friendly: The Woodstock Haven was constructed using green building techniques. We have passive solar, radiant heat, and an on-demand water heater that never runs out. We use all organic cleansers, soaps, and low VOC paints. Visit our website below

About Raye, Woodstock Haven

I'm a writer who enjoys playing with color in my spare time - whether it be in terms of furnishings, paint on a canvas, or flowers in the yard. (Gardening has become something of an obsession.)

Raye, Woodstock Haven purchased this cottage in 2003
Why Raye, Woodstock Haven chose Woodstock

We wanted something close to town where we wouldn't have to have a car. At the same time, we didn't want to be sandwiched between neighbors - we already had that experience in the city. This property definitely fit the bill: it feels as if we're in the middle of nowhere, but we're less than 1/2 mile from it all. When we saw the stained glass window (which had been in the barn - the existent structure at purchase), we were goners. Of course the beautiful, woodland view in back and the rushing stream across the road in front didn't hurt. We designed the Haven on a cocktail napkin, transferred that to graph paper, then faxed our drawings to an engineer and had the house built to spec. We could not be more pleased.

What makes this cottage unique

The stained glass window is utterly mesmerizing. The soaking tub is decadently luxurious (along with so many other touches in the house - DWR, Calvin Klein, Angela Adams, Modernica furnishings, original art works by up and coming and established painters, mixed in with eclectic flea market finds). It's cozy enough for a couple - you don't feel like you're wasting a lot of space - but if friends join you, the meditation room allows everyone to have adequate privacy. The 24-foot high ceilings and the wall of windows make the house feel larger than it is and keep it flooded with sunlight. Unlike many 'in town' cottages, The Haven truly is private, set well-back from both the road and neighbors. We love giving people the opportunity to experience what it's like to live in Woodstock, even if it's only for a little while. Although, truth be told, many of our renters have gone on to purchase homes in the area. You might be next!

An Oasis in Eden

Submitted: April 25, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
The most charming place we've ever stayed. Peaceful, beautiful, clean, quiet, blocks from downtown Woodstock. The proprietors couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. They provided guides for everything - the house, the town, restaurants, shopping, the outlying areas. We were in desperate need of a break from work and the city, and we got exactly what we were looking for. The home was so inviting and had everything we would need. The grounds were gorgeous - trees, plants and flowers in all directions. Not to mention the views of the forest outside from the bedroom windows. We arrived in the evening and had no idea what the area looked like. When I awoke the next morning, the first thing I saw was what seemed like millions of trees and green from outside the large picture windows. I literally gasped. I've never experienced the beauty of nature in quite that way.
We wholeheartedly recommend this property. Truly awesome and restful. We are already planning a summer return.

A Magical Getaway

My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to stumble upon this delightful rental while looking for a post holiday getaway destination. We live in Manhattan and were looking for a place to just relax and unwind. Only a 2 hour drive from the city, the house is the perfect getaway for a few days or longer if you have. The house was built in 2005 and is the perfect combination of modern and rustic. It has all the modern appliances and gadgets you need but is nestled in the country and makes you feel like you are hidden away in the woods. It is so relaxing to sit by the fireplace and take in all the fabulous scenery. The house is only a few minutes from town and Raye sets you up with fantastic recommendations -it's like having your own personal concierge. She has loads of great suggestions from lunch spots to farmers markets not to be missed. The best part is everything is just a few minutes from the house so while you feel like your tucked away - cute shops and restaurants are super close by. As someone who works in high end hospitality, I have a unique level of apprecation for the level or service provided by Raye. She truly anticpates every need you might have from a binder packed with how to's for any questions wtih the house to having a sound system and a wide array of CDs if you feel like playing DJ while cooking dinner in her fabulous kitchen or taking a soak in the fabulous tub. The pictures online do not do this place justice - its so much more amazing than what you see online. It was perfect for the two of us - we were genuinly sad to leave and cannot wait to go back. It is just fantastic in the winter and we cannot wait to experience it in the summer!
