About Martha Howard
Dr. Frank Wright and wife, Anne Wright. They moved to Gulf Shores from Madison, Mississippi after Frank closed his optometry practice in Jackson. They have two sons and four beautiful grandsons back home. Frank still works part time as an optometrist and Anne is active in the community and in the First Baptist Church of Gulf Shores. They still have close ties to home and visit frequently. They live on Little Lagoon just a short distance from the Shady Oaks Cottage, which they enjoy sharing with others.
Martha Howard purchased this cottage in 1997
Why Martha Howard chose Gulf Shores
Frank and Anne bought this property with retirement in mind. They had vacationed in Gulf Shores for many years and wanted a place of their own. This house, one of Gulf Shores' original cottages, was just a shell then. They renovated it and used it as their new vacation home before moving permanently to the area and making it their full time residence. They have since purchased a larger home close by and wish to share old cottage with others who want to know what it is like to live on the lagoon.
What makes this cottage unique
Tucked into a waterfront neighborhood the Shady Oaks Cottage has panoramic views of Little Lagoon. The shallow waters are great for families who want clam water and a peaceful vacation away from the crowd. It is convenient to town (4 miles) and has easy access to Gulf Shores' biking and walking trail (just across the street.) The Peninsula's golf course is less than 1/2 mile and several others are within minutes' drive. Frank and Anne always enjoyed sitting outside in the breeze on the patio, which is shaded by old oaks. They are pet owners who like to travel with their Shih Tzu, Attie May so the home is also friendly to small dogs.
