Photos and Description of the Austin vacation cottage rental
2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 6

A quaint, elegant cottage in distinguished Old Austin is just minutes away from bustling downtown. The cozy Travis Heights home is a short, five-block walk to historic South Congress Avenue and its eclectic array of fine restaurants, music venues, vintage (clothing) shops, and unique culture of street vendors, musicians & artists. The cottage is one block from Stacey Park hike and bike trails, tennis courts, children’s playground, and free heated swimming pool.

Nestled under towering Pecans and Live Oaks, the neighborhood is 'Old Austin at its finest.' Catch the bus a few blocks away to see the Congress Bridge bats fly, or visit 2nd, 4th and 6th Street's music/night life districts.

The home is beautifully decorated and landscaped, modern everything, central air/heat, washer/dryer, lots of sunlight, shaded-gated patio, and off street parking. Stay in the heartbeat of what makes Austin unique and loved by so many--experience its romance, grace, & excitement.

There's one step up to the kitchen and patio bedroom french doors from the patio . The front door has no steps and is wheel chair assessable. There's no car traffic on Pecan Grove, just foot and stroller traffic to Stacey park. Enjoy the neighborhood scene.

You're within a half mile of Town Lake, bordered by 10 miles of hike/bike trails, where you can find kayaking, sculling, and canoeing for rent. Catch (from April to Oct) the largest urban bat population flying at dusk at the Congress Street Bridge. Walk across the bridge to enter the new Second Street restaurants & shopping area, or the nightlife in the Warehouse 4th Street or the younger Sixth Street (Old Pecan Street) Districts. Lots of pedi-cabs and horse carriages. Also enjoy swimming in Deep Eddy & the Barton Springs natural spring-fed pools--both Austin icons.

When possible I like to meet you and orient you to the house and neighborhood. I keep suggestions for unique dining and shopping experiences and help you enjoy your stay in many ways. I have a bike and tennis rackets for you and sometimes a rental car.

Comfortable, Unusual SoCo Stay

5 of 5
Submitted: December 23, 2011 Stayed: June 2011
I picked Charla’s lovely duplex cottage based on the convenient location, the quiet she promised (it was indeed quiet!), and because she generously allowed my cat to come with me. I’m a mid-20’s professional who values practical efficiency (speedy internet, basic kitchen needs, and A/C), yet also desires a cozier home away from home, something more private, charming, and unique than corporate housing. Charla’s place fit the bill for the two and a half hot summer months I spent working in Austin. The educational sexual material others may have been offended by, I found fascinating and even helpful!

The space felt open, neat, and homey. Charla was delightful, fair, communicative, and very helpful with anything I needed. The only things I’d mention renter-to-renter that could be a problem for some (and that aren’t obvious from the pictures) are these: the upstairs bathroom and the lack of doors.

The pictures displayed are indeed accurate, but there is no photo of the upstairs bathroom, which has the sit-down shower/tub directly under a low-sloped ceiling--meaning you have to literally sit in the tub. I wouldn’t suggest counting on a normal 2 full baths, as it practically feels like 1.5. Also, the central A/C works well downstairs, but for the upstairs bedroom a window unit is necessary and provided.

Charla has taken out ALL the interior doors in the house but for the one separating the downstairs bedroom from the hallway, hanging up curtains in the rest of the doorways. (The downstairs bathroom would be an exception with an accordion-style sliding “door”.) While this makes for a very open energy flow, it could be a problem if groups wanted more privacy. I find this unusual and worth noting, though it was never a problem for my needs, and the curtains add a certain charm.

I’d recommend this place to singles, to a couple, and to the open-minded curious. :)

Our family of four loved Creekside Cottage! It was really hard to leave. We actually wrote down decorating and other ideas for use in our regular home. The house is warm, open and inviting with lovely nooks and crannies to give a feeling of a spacious retreat. We loved the patio, too. The property was spotless, everything worked perfectly and Charla is a pleasure to work with as well.

The house is in a great family neighborhood, a short drive or about a 10 -15 minute walk to South Congress Street with all it has to offer. About two blocks away is a great park with tennis courts and other amenities. We hope to be back soon.
We loved the thrift stores and funky shops on South Congress. We ate great food at Guero's, Snack Bar, Home Slice and the food trucks. Austin was incredibly cool but in friendly homey way. We loved seeing Harry Potter at the Alamo Drafthouse.

It was a great place to be in Austin.
