Comfortable, Unusual SoCo Stay

I picked Charla’s lovely duplex cottage based on the convenient location, the quiet she promised (it was indeed quiet!), and because she generously allowed my cat to come with me. I’m a mid-20’s professional who values practical efficiency (speedy internet, basic kitchen needs, and A/C), yet also desires a cozier home away from home, something more private, charming, and unique than corporate housing. Charla’s place fit the bill for the two and a half hot summer months I spent working in Austin. The educational sexual material others may have been offended by, I found fascinating and even helpful!
The space felt open, neat, and homey. Charla was delightful, fair, communicative, and very helpful with anything I needed. The only things I’d mention renter-to-renter that could be a problem for some (and that aren’t obvious from the pictures) are these: the upstairs bathroom and the lack of doors.
The pictures displayed are indeed accurate, but there is no photo of the upstairs bathroom, which has the sit-down shower/tub directly under a low-sloped ceiling--meaning you have to literally sit in the tub. I wouldn’t suggest counting on a normal 2 full baths, as it practically feels like 1.5. Also, the central A/C works well downstairs, but for the upstairs bedroom a window unit is necessary and provided.
Charla has taken out ALL the interior doors in the house but for the one separating the downstairs bedroom from the hallway, hanging up curtains in the rest of the doorways. (The downstairs bathroom would be an exception with an accordion-style sliding “door”.) While this makes for a very open energy flow, it could be a problem if groups wanted more privacy. I find this unusual and worth noting, though it was never a problem for my needs, and the curtains add a certain charm.
I’d recommend this place to singles, to a couple, and to the open-minded curious. :)
