Welcome to Thalassa Point, an adult orientated two acre gated and fenced waterfront estate in the charming rural community of North Saanich, a suburb of Greater Victoria. Although the bustling Capital City is about 25 minutes away, and the quaint seaside town of 'Sidney By The Sea', the BC Ferries Terminal and the Victoria International Airport are all a short 10 minute drive, the ambience of Thalassa Point is one of peace and tranquility.

We are located on the north west corner of the Saanich Peninsula, adjacent to beautiful Deep Cove and considered the 'warm' side of the Peninsula. The property boasts 350 feet of low bank water frontage with south west to north east panoramic views and spectacular YEAR ROUND SUNSETS.

Although there are two executive homes on the property, and the owners periodically occupy one of them, privacy is enjoyed by both. The recently renovated 3,000 square foot home offers amazing views from most rooms. There are 3 ensuite bedrooms, two with king size beds, and one with a queen size, plus an additional half bath. The master ensuite bathroom is a six piece, including a bidet, and shares the awesome views that most other rooms enjoy. All bedrooms are equipped with LCD TVs. hardwood floors, granite counters, and CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING for year round comfort are additional features of the home.

The property is heavily treed and the feeling one has is of living in a peaceful forest setting on the ocean's edge. Wildlife abounds as well as a myriad of marine life (including occasional sightings of Orcas...Killer Whales) and the adjacent waters are a favorite fishing ground for locals and tourists alike.

There are a wealth of activities in close proximity to Thalassa Point, including world famous 'The Butchart Gardens', a leisurely 20 minute journey down country roads. All this and much more are sure to make your stay at Thalassa Point a memorable one!

Thalassa Point is truly a 'special property', uniquely situated in one of the finest neighbourhoods on the Saanich Peninsula, boasting the best possible exposure in a quiet and peaceful location and with those endless sunsets.......please read some of our reviews to get a sense of this property. Further,we offer an extremely well equipped vacation home and we most certainly strive to provide an upscale experience to our guests....a definite huge step above what other vacation rental properties offer!

ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING in the home AND on the property and no pets in the home or on the property....with no exceptions please. Also please note that, due to the topography of Thalassa Point and the decor and layout of the residence, we are unable to rent to guests with children under the age of sixteen. Hello Robert - I was going to send you a note as soon as I caught up from my week vacation to let you know what a wonderful place you have created. We loved the house, the property, and the location! We treated the house as we would our own, probably even a bit more conscientious since it was so immaculate. We used the garage as our entrance and left our shoes there and it worked out great.



Greg and I stayed downstairs and Blair and Jacki in the upstairs master. It gave us a nice separation for personal space. The house was very comfortable and we all loved sitting in the living room with a fire in the evenings or looking out the window with a cup of coffee in the morning. Your grounds are just beautiful. We saw bald eagle, seal, an otter (on the lower grass) and two fawns chasing each other around the yard. We walked up the road, hiked in Horth Park, walked the sea walk in Sidney, drove to Sooke and walked out Whiffen Spit, drove up the coast as far as Duncan meandering through the Cowiche & Maple Bay and toured the BC Royal Museum. We stayed at the house most of Sunday, just to enjoy it, then went to dinner at the Chalet Sunday night where we had a nice conversation with your neighbors the Drakes (introduced to us by our hostess who we had a nice conversation with as well). We hated leaving on Monday - we felt at home immediately and all of your personal touches gave it that feeling - thank you for sharing and hopefully we will see you again in the future - Beverly

I have spent most of my adult working life in West Vancouver (a suburb of Vancouver, BC's largest city) and enjoy the 'West Coast lifestyle' immensely. We have owned boats, large ones and small ones, for many years and have taken many cruises through the Gulf and San Juan Islands. This area represents some of the best pleasure boating on the Continent. It was because of these adventures that we found and fell in love with the Saanich Peninsula. Although we still keep a Townhome in West Vancouver, we find ourselves drawn more and more to our Island property.

Robert Gaynor purchased this house in 2004

Although the Saanich Peninsula has many waterfront properties, not many have the unique ambience of Thalassa Point. The east side of the Peninsula is affected in the summertime by cooling winds that blow in from the open ocean through Juan de Fuca Strait and up Haro Strait...and of course there are no sunsets to enjoy. The north side tends to be dark. Thalassa Point enjoys summer warmth and plenty of light, and of course those amazing sunsets. All this and more attracted us to this unique location. However the property came with two homes and hence we now find ourselves in the unanticipated position of owning a vacation rental.

What I think we both most enjoy about Thalassa Point is the feeling of serenity in this most beautiful place. The property is heavily treed with tall stately Firs and majestic Arbutus (Madronas or Madrones) and is narrow at the road and wide at the oceanfront (pie shaped). The home is accessed by a 300+ foot driveway and the feeling is that of being in the middle of the forest with awesome ocean and mountain views all around. The sounds and smells are only of the ocean and the forest. Although the neighborhood is quite rural, most anything one would ever need can be found in the quaint village of 'Sidney by the Sea' some 10 minutes away. However, if one is in need of a big city 'fix', there is none more beautiful than Victoria with its charming English flavor...and its an enjoyable 25 minutes or so away.

A Slice of Paradise...

Kudos to Rob & Mark for creating such a warm, inviting home to enjoy. They have thought of everything (except wine glass tags which we left as a parting gift) to make your stay both comfortable & first class luxury. Their attention to detail was so appreciated & the home as described was very well equipped & stocked. Kitchen, galley style was very organized, spotless & had everything you will need to prepare delicious meals.
Thank you Mark & Rob for sharpening the knives before we arrived!

Bedrooms & bathrooms were awesome--really comfortable beds, linens, towels, choice of pillows & best of all those views. Loved waking up to the water vistas or showering & watching sailboats in the distance.

The pictures do not do this home justice! Equally beautiful is the terraced grounds meticulously & lovingly maintained by Mark. You could spend hours on the back deck or sitting on one of their strategically placed benches soaking in the view. My personal favorite was the dock...loved sitting there (chairs provided) feeling the gentle waves as boats motored by. And of course there were the unforgettable sunsets.

You will come to really appreciate the location of this home. A ten minute drive takes you into Sidney by the sea -- a small resort town that has some terrific restaurants, cute shops, grocery store & pharmacies. Even two walk-in medical clinics, which I had the opportunity to experience first hand (apparently I was very attractive to a spider & it left behind quite a bite!) For two dinners we picked up fresh salmon & halibut from the fish market down by the water. Talk about fresh seafood! Mark & Rob have also provided a handy notebook of their favorite restaurants & as a result we enjoyed some great local dinners. Victoria is only a short 30 minute drive & the BC ferries are literally 8 minutes away from the house. Don't miss Butchart Gardens!

By the way, make sure you take a few minutes out to read the thoughtfully prepared notebook on the various home features & amenities. For instance, you will note that the gas grill is connected directly to the gas line!

We have rented many homes throughout the years, are well traveled and have a second home in the Outer Banks of North Carolina which we also rent to guests. So we can say with experience this home has earned, hands down, every star we have rated it. It is 5 Star and EXCELLENT!

Shangri-La

Our stay at Thalassa Point last week could not have been better. I hope to have brought their karma home with me to keep close. When days become stressful I will close my eyes and picture the view from Thalassa Point. If my memory fails me, I will arrange a return visit. Regardless, I will return and refer only friends who will truly appreciate the Shangri-La that Rob and Mark have created.

The entire stay was effortless from the booking to the immediate return of the deposit. The house fit our party of three couples perfectly. The two upstairs bedrooms were sufficiently separated to provide privacy. The three living areas and large property scattered with lovely view benches provided ample escapes for alone time if desired. We stored our bicycles in the garage which allowed secure and easy access. The entire estate was secure which only added to the tranquility. The home is immaculately maintained and cleaned, well equipped, beautifully appointed, and so very comfortable. The location allowed frequent trips on the ferry, to Victoria, and to local wineries and farm stands. We could not have been more pleased with our choice to stay at Thalassa Point.

A marvelous stay even exceeding our expectations

My wife and me spent 2 weeks in this fantastic luxury ocean front house at a wonderful quiet location with spectacular sunsets.
Based on the provided pictures on VRBO Homepage we expected a lot but what we have experienced was even better.
We had a very friendly warm welcome by the owners when we arrived. The house is fully equipped with luxury infrastructure and state of the art technology. The cleanliness was like in our own private house which was not always granted in recent rental houses we had before.
We felt like being in our own huge property but always invisible protected by the owners who lived in the other house on this waterfront property.
If you want to enjoy a perfect luxury and quiet vacation in the nature but not too far away from food stores and restaurants this is the right location to be.
By the way, my wife loved the piano and played every night.

“Superb home and location”

Arrived late on a rainy night to be met by Rob & Mark who helped with our luggage, gave us a brief overview of the house and provided us with coffee for the morning. Our first impressions of the house were that we were inside a home straight out of Belle magazine everything was beautiful exactly as it appeared in the photos. All very tired went off to bed full of anticipation of what the morning would bring. What it brought was the amazing views and even more delight in our accommodation for the next six nights. Rob & Mark have thought of everything and everything is immaculate. We soon settled in and enjoyed Thalassa Pont - enjoying wonderful BBQs and drinks on the Terrace. This was our first holiday rental it will be the standard by which we judge any future rentals so they had better be good. Would highly recommend. Thanks Rob & Mark for beautiful Thalassa Point lovely to stay and to meet you.

Best Homeaway Ever

We rented this home for a week to celebrate my 50th birthday, and it is without question the best rental we have ever enjoyed. The house is impeccable and incredibly well supplied. We LOVE to cook, and having everything we needed including sharp knives (bless you Rob, THAT was a first for sure) and a grill (we're Texans, we grill just about everything!) made it fully possible and enjoyable. The views are incredible, the grounds are gorgeous and as you eat you breakfast or dinner you can watch bunnies, mink, otters, hummingbirds, seals and more living their lives all around.

The beds are very comfortable, you will sleep like a baby. Unless you can't sleep because the view is to gorgeous.

Close by are multiple fun things to do and see, ride in a sea plane at Pat Bay, whale watching (depart from Sidney - much closer and a good fast boat) Butchart Gardens, hiking, zip lining, messing around along the shoreline, fishing (you can purchase a license on line) and of course cooking! There is a great store with loads of local organic supplies called the Root Cellar - that's in Victoria, and then the Thrifty Mart is actually a really nice grocery for everything else. The fish market on the pier in Sidney has great fresh seafood as does the Thrifty.

Mark and Rob are gracious hosts and full of information about the area and also can send tips and hints for Vancouver.

Rent this house. You will be very glad that you did.

Peacefulness and luxury on the water.

Tucked away in the Deep Cove neighborhood of North Saanich on Victoria Island, British Columbia, the Thalassa Point waterfront property is splendid, period. We were greeted personally by the owner, who welcomed us warmly and provided a helpful tour both inside and outside. The landscaping is positively exquisite—much attention has been given to every detail. It is quite easy to feel at home immediately. Several highlights. Everything was spotless, in tip-top shape. The view from the master bedroom out onto the waters of Saanich Inlet and the Morseby Passage is unparalleled. The kitchen is well-stocked with cookware, dishes, and professional-grade appliances. Master en-suite bathroom had a terrific dual-spray shower, and the proximity of the high-end washer and dryer was a big plus. The back deck was our oasis—we ate dinner there frequently and thoroughly enjoyed the wide variety of long-lasting and highly engaging sunsets that we saw every evening of the entire week.

Very close by is the Muse Winery, which offers very nice white and red wines, along with a delightful luncheon—served outside alongside the vineyard—on several days of the week. Within 10 minutes’ drive time from Thalassa Point is the small town of Sidney (left at Exit 28 off of Route 17, heading south). There, we found a very enjoyable restaurant called Beacon’s Landing with phenomenal salmon wraps, as well as a fully stocked Save-On food store. The quality of the fresh fish available to take back to the house from the Satellite Fish Company down on the waterfront was outstanding—we had the mussels and scallops. Nearby, you will also find the world-class Butchert Gardens, as well as a functioning lavender farm. In addition, we enjoyed whale-watching during a 3-hour, 30-mile tour, getting to see several pods of whales, including a large bull whale that emerged very close to the Zodiac ribbed inflatable boat. The charming city of Victoria is less than 30 minutes from Thalassa Point south on Route 17. We ate in the city at Nautical Nellie’s (delicious food) not far from the Empress Hotel.

We have traveled extensively throughout the United States, western and eastern Europe, and both the eastern and western sides of Canada. Thalassa Point is a shining example of what living away from home should be. This is no ordinary property—it receives our highest possible recommendation as frequent and discerning travelers.

Whale watching adventure tours are a very popular activity, departing from nearby Sidney. And with some luck, one can even watch the Killer Whales (Orcas) from the comfort of the home or patio.
