Hi! this is Mario, your host. I was born in Peru but grew up in Southeast Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal). Also lived in London and back in South America before moving to the States. I received a BFA in Dance and Theater from the University of Florida and danced professionally in the US and Canada for some years. Moved to NYC in 2008 and live in the Lower East Side just blocks from this property. I split my time between managing a yoga studio, dancing and choreographing and running FOOD FOR LIFE, a community organization that serves meals to the hungry and homeless of Lower Manhattan at Tompkins Square Park. I’m also a member of M.I.L.E (Music Is Love Exchange) a network of artists that help disadvantaged children and families in the highlands of Guatemala and a Regional Coordinator in Peru for ONE BILLION RISING, a global campaign to end violence against women and girls.
Mario Cornejo purchased this studio in 2011

Really lovely place- clean, comfortable, good location, friendly service...& yoga classes!
Very Impressed beautiful, clean generous sized Accom for NYC!! Location perfect for my Family, Safe & Convenient to Sub!!
Breakfast Ok a little crowded!!
Communication with Mario whilst booking was Impeccable Great Rate.
To top it off a great Yoga Class too
Polite people and very good service.
The breakfirst was amazing.
It was our second stay there and it won't be the Last!!!!
One of the nicest places we've stayed in Manhattan. It was a quiet retreat from the city, beautifully decorated, clean, and comfortable. The subway is nearby so it's easy to get to wherever you need to go. We would definitely come back.
My stay at the Sanctuary was delightful - the suite was roomy and cozy, and everything inside was brand new.
The location is superb- Manhattan's lower is side is a vibrant neighborhood full of trendy eateries and hang outs.
The staff are very considerate and patient - check on arrival, flexible to meet someone on arrival. There is not a 24/7 concierge but a number to call and it felt safe. It was as advertised.
You can hear the quiet murmur of other guests but it was not intolerable and I was out a lot.
The room was large and had everything you needed.
The location is good, places to eat, can walk to other places within 30 minutes, more residential but bumped into a crew filming a hit TV show set.
The free breakfast is really helpful and I went for my first yoga class during my stay.
A good balance between an air bnb and a hotel so I felt more at home in a big city like NYC.
The Lower East Side is the oldest neighborhood in New York City and presently one of the most fashionable in Manhattan. Once the home for working-class European immigrants, the LES has become one of the trendiest areas in the city full of cool boutique hotels, bars, restaurants, yoga studios, fashion stores, health food stores, art galleries and live music venues. Iconic artists like Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen used to live on our street and countless movies and TV shows are filmed around throughout the year.
Just blocks away is the Delancey/Essex Subway Station and a quick train ride to Midtown (Union Square, Flatiron District, Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park) or Brooklyn (Williamsburg, DUMBO). A few minutes walking and you can be anywhere Downtown: East Village, SoHo, West Village, Little Italy, Chinatown and East River Park.
