Hi! this is Mario, your host. I was born in Peru but grew up in Southeast Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal). Also lived in London and back in South America before moving to the States. I received a BFA in Dance and Theater from the University of Florida and danced professionally in the US and Canada for some years. Moved to NYC in 2008 and live in the Lower East Side just blocks from this property. I split my time between managing a yoga studio, dancing and choreographing and running FOOD FOR LIFE, a community organization that serves meals to the hungry and homeless of Lower Manhattan at Tompkins Square Park. I’m also a member of M.I.L.E (Music Is Love Exchange) a network of artists that help disadvantaged children and families in the highlands of Guatemala and a Regional Coordinator in Peru for ONE BILLION RISING, a global campaign to end violence against women and girls.
Mario Cornejo purchased this studio in 2011

Just as pictured. Nicer in reality! Easy to work with the host, and very accommodating service. Both of us said, "this is the nicest, and most affordable, place we've stayed in NYC (and we have stayed in a lot)".
We came for christmas with our family (2 adults + 3 teenagers) , we had a wonderful stay : easy access to subway (5/7 minutes walk), very clean and top kitchen equipment. Very quiet place...only heat system was not working very well (noisy fan system). We recommend for family and long stay to visit all nyc wonderful places. Valérie - FRANCE
We had a very pleasant and relaxing stay at the NYC Sanctuary resort. Our room was very clean and tidy and spacious. I was a little disappointed with the 3rd bed, I had booked a room for 3 people and the 3rd bed was a pull out bed that was not very comfortable so we had to take the mattress off the frame and put it on the floor
The free yoga class was awesome, we really enjoyed that. I was also disappointed that there was no breakfast? It stated on the website when we booked that breakfast was on Monday to Friday but we went downstairs before 9AM and could not find anyone or any breakfast. Furthermore, the request for vegetarianism in the apartments was not a problem for my stay, however, due to the accommodation being apartments, I think that this should be more explicit on the website as I think that others may not adhere to the request of keeping the apartment meat free. I would also like to say that my sister and I had the amazing and humbling opportunity, to help Mario and his colleagues with their food for life. I think that this is an incredible thing and helps restore faith in humanity.
First, you have to understand you're on the Lower East Side. Gentrification kinda needs to be your thing.
The room was very nice and well appointed. Staff was nice and accommodating. I could not have been happier with the room.
The only thing that threw me was the "No Meat Cooking" policy. That kinda catches you by surprise. If it was published somewhere I missed it and it needs to be pointed out more clearly. The room had a wonderful gas stove and accoutrements, but they ask you not to cook meat on the stove because the facility is fundamentally a vegetarian lifestyle philosophy and to do so would impose the smell of cooking meat on everyone whose nose works. No one tried to push anything on me, I will probably stay here next time I go to NYC, loved my stay, AND that came as a surprise. Nothing against meat in the fridge (sandwiches, etc), just don't cook it on the stove so everyone can smell it.
Very pleasant, comfortable and well positioned.
The studio BUDDHA, is ideal for 2 adults and 1 child but we were 3 adults.
Property was clean and well maintained.
The staff was nice, even if not always on place.
I'd suggest to offer at least a change of towels every 2 days.
I surely will recommande this property to friends.
We spent 8 magical days in New york , mostly through the studio where we stayed . The energy of the sanctuary is positive and relaxing and welcome after a day walking . The bedding was perfect .
we loved live in this neighborhood near all friendly and trendy places in the city !
Many thanks and hope to come soon and try Yoga !

The Lower East Side is the oldest neighborhood in New York City and presently one of the most fashionable in Manhattan. Once the home for working-class European immigrants, the LES has become one of the trendiest areas in the city full of cool boutique hotels, bars, restaurants, yoga studios, fashion stores, health food stores, art galleries and live music venues. Iconic artists like Marlon Brando, Robert DeNiro, Lou Reed and Leonard Cohen used to live on our street and countless movies and TV shows are filmed around throughout the year.
Just blocks away is the Delancey/Essex Subway Station and a quick train ride to Midtown (Union Square, Flatiron District, Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park) or Brooklyn (Williamsburg, DUMBO). A few minutes walking and you can be anywhere Downtown: East Village, SoHo, West Village, Little Italy, Chinatown and East River Park.
