About Mario Cornejo

Hi! this is Mario, your host. I was born in Peru but grew up in Southeast Asia (India, Sri Lanka, Nepal). Also lived in London and back in South America before moving to the States. I received a BFA in Dance and Theater from the University of Florida and danced professionally in the US and Canada for some years. Moved to NYC in 2008 and live in the Lower East Side just blocks from this property. I split my time between managing a yoga studio, dancing and choreographing and running FOOD FOR LIFE, a community organization that serves meals to the hungry and homeless of Lower Manhattan at Tompkins Square Park. I’m also a member of M.I.L.E (Music Is Love Exchange) a network of artists that help disadvantaged children and families in the highlands of Guatemala and a Regional Coordinator in Peru for ONE BILLION RISING, a global campaign to end violence against women and girls.

Grat location in the east village.

  • 4 of 5

Surrounded by wonderful restaurants, 2 blocks to the subway.

Clean comfortable apartment. Christmas in New York was fabulous. Mario was very helpful with our early morning arrival!

Nice Stay - Great Service

  • 4 of 5

The place itself is really nice. Granted it's small like many apartments in NYC are, with basic kitchen appliances, a clean bathroom, decent closet space and a big TV. Everything was clean when we arrived. Great location. It's on the third floor so definitely a haul if you have a big suitcase. "Rooftop access" means there's a door to a platform that is really only good for smokers - no scenery or anything. Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves and the staff was always on-point!

We loved it, very cute, very practical

  • 5 of 5

Very clean, practical, nice décor. Great for 2 adults & 2 kids. Good central location, close to subway and wholefoods & lots of restaurants. Staff were helpful and met us on arrival. The only downside is the 5 flights of steps! But it's all good exercise

The perfect, cozy apt in the heart of East Village

  • 5 of 5

We loved this apartment! It was the perfect size for myself and two friends for the weekend. It was a very clean, and cozy unit, and having access to a small kitchen definitely came in handy. We were in an amazing location, with tons of incredible dining options on every block. I couldn't have asked for a better to stay to experience my first stay in New York. Management was incredibly accommodating, even hoisting our heavy luggage up 3 flights of stairs, and allowing us to keep our luggage at the main office during the hours after checkout and before our evening flight. The rooftop access was a cool feature also. So happy we decided to stay in this cozy little apartment for our time in NY, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat!

Charming and Practical

  • 5 of 5

Clean & tidy unit with rooftop views towards the New World Trade building from the bedroom. Tastefully decorated cozy unit with access to your very own roof top area and another roof top common area with views of the Empire State. The folks at Sanctuary are all lovely and helpful. They were very flexible for both our arrival and departure and even carried my wife's bags up the 75 stairs. There was a washing machine that didn't work and I failed the IQ Test to get the shower running. We had two teenage boys and this place was just big enough for the five nights, slightly bigger would've been better. Easy access to F line on the metro with a laundromat around the corner, internet cafe, grocery stores and restaurants all within a very short walk. Would recommend and stay again.

Great location, beautifully clean and spacious apt

  • 5 of 5

Property was excellent. Very clean, spacious and with comfy beds. Tiny kitchen had all we needed to self cater. Bathroom was nice. We really felt like we were living in a typical New Yorkers apartment. Sanctuary team very welcoming. Matteo was there for our arrival and all dealings with Mario and team were no fuss and easy. Recommend the East Village atmosphere. We'll be back and we'll stay with Sanctuary again.

The East Village is the most vibrant and culturally diverse neighborhood in Manhattan. Originally populated by European immigrants, the East Village became the center of counterculture and artistic movements in the 1950s and since has become the Mecca for music and art in New York City. In the 70s and 80s the Queen of Pop Madonna, Lou Reed (Velvet Underground) and the Ramones were East Village neighbors. Today celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Cruise and Mary Kate Olsen and David Schwimmer (Ross from FRIENDS) have residences in our neighborhood. The East Village is also the film set for countless movies and TV shows all year round.

This property is conveniently located minutes from all Lower Manhattan attractions (Soho, Greenwich Village, Lower East Side, Little Italy and Chinatown) and steps from the 2nd Avenue Subway Station and short train ride to Midtown (Empire State Building, Times Square and Central Park) and Brooklyn.

There's a Whole Foods supermarket 3 blocks away.
