Grand Marais House Rental Photos and Description
House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)
The Gibbs House is a bright and spacious home situated just blocks from beautiful Lake Superior in the very unique charming harbor town of Grand Marais, Minnesota.
The house sleeps eight people in its three bedrooms (2 queen beds, 1 double bed) and a convertible sofa which becomes another queen bed. There are two bathrooms, a washer and dryer, a fully equipped kitchen and a dining table that will seat eight. There is both a high chair and a booster chair for our younger guests.
We provide WiFi and a telephone with domestic long distance for those who want to stay connected. For rainy days or quiet evenings, a DVD player, along with a number of movies (for both children and adults) will provide entertainment.
There is a 'Killerspin' ping pong table in the 'lower room' for evenings or rainy days. The lower room is a large room at the front of the house, down four steps from the main level. In addition to the ping pong table, there is a reading nook with a small library of books for children and adults. The convertible sofa is located here as well as one of the bathrooms. The lower room can be closed off from the upper level by the French doors at the top of the stairs.
In warmer months, take advantage of outdoor dining and grilling on the back patio. Enjoy reading, writing, yoga, art, or quiet contemplation in the small studio building in the backyard.
Located at the base of the old Gunflint Trail and close to downtown, the Gibbs House provides ample opportunity to enjoy local area attractions. Quaint shops, local restaurants with amazing food, the North House Folk School, the Art Colony and several churches are all within walking distance. Depending on how many groceries you buy, walking to and from either of the town's grocery stores - Johnson's Foods or Gene's IGA, or the Cook County Whole Foods Co-op - is easy, too. The restaurants in Grand Marais are incredibly wonderful - very different from what one would expect in a small town. Our favorites - all within walking distance are: The Angry Trout, The Pie Place (serving wonderful breakfasts, lunches, dinners and wine in addition to the best pie), The Crooked Spoon, and the new and excellent, Harbor Grille. These all offer fine dining. For more casual dining, The Gunflint Tavern is wonderful (try their veggie burger) and of course, Sven and Oles is great - especially for families. If you are a true 'Up -norther', you are a coffee lover, and there is no place anywhere better for coffee than The Java Moose! In addition to coffee, they have great pastries, cookies, and fabulous homemade sandwiches. The staff is absolutely delightful, too! Amazingly, all of this is within easy walking distance!
Venture a bit farther along the shore to explore miles of hiking trails or drive up the Gunflint Trail to access the pristine inland lakes of the Boundary Waters/Voyageurs National Park. Take your kayak or canoe with you for a tranquil day on the water.
Just 260 miles from Minneapolis and St. Paul, the Gibbs House provides all the amenities and comforts of home and an authentic taste of life in the North Woods. It is the perfect home-base for a couple, larger family, book club, fishing group or.... We know you will enjoy your stay!

About The Owner
I was five years old when I first visited Grand Marais and still remember that trip! Years later, the North Shore was a natural place for our honeymoon and on that trip, we began to dream of buying property in Grand Marais. That dream stayed alive all of the years our children were growing up as we vacationed there every summer. The beauty of the lake and the north woods never grew old.
The Owner purchased this house in 2011
Why The Owner chose Grand Marais
When we found this wonderful house for sale in the fall of 2011, we knew it was a way to make our dream come true and share it with others.
Grand Marais has managed to change with the world in good ways, but it remains a uniquely welcoming community where family, outdoor activities and the arts combine with love and care for the beautiful natural environment.
What makes this house unique
We love hiking the many trails, canoeing in the boundary waters, just 'being' by Lake Superior, coffee and conversation at the Java Moose, and the excellent meals served at the restaurants in Grand Marais.
