Ray and Kathy met in 1998 and both were building beachfront homes at the time. We married in 1999 and Ray's house was finished first so we decided to do a vacation rental with the Hidden Cove home. It has been a very rewarding experience for us as we have met so many wonderful people. Check out the sunset at Hidden Cove!!
Kathy purchased this house in 1993
This trip was my choice for a graduation present from my parents and I couldn't have been happier. The house was impeccable. Eagles flying everywhere, seals here and there, one morning we even had a humpback whale breach 40 ft out of the water! We were able to rent kayaks from Ray and Kathy and were on them every day. We caught pinks and silvers off of them and even halibut! I knew it was going to be an awesome trip but I totally underestimated it! The house was perfect inside and out, there were even staple foods that Ray and Kathy had went ahead and bought for us to have at the house. If you're looking for not only a beautiful place to vacation at but the best house to do it in, look no further than hidden cove. You will not be disappointed!!!
Alaska's Hidden Cove is absolutely the best vacation rental ever! Ray and Kathy have gone out of their way to make their "home away" truly feel like home. The home is beautiful, the property is beautiful, the beach is fabulous! Truly a memorable vacation...we can't wait to visit again!
This is, hands down, one of the best places we've stayed! The location is perfect - perched on the edge of the Tongass Narrows with amazing views of the Narrows and Gravina Island, plus eagles, whales, sea otters, etc. The property contains its own "enchanted forest" with beautiful trees, walking paths, and moss-covered logs, like something out of a fairy tale. The grounds were very well laid out and well constructed; you can tell much care was taken in building the property. The house is full of high-quality windows to let in the views and keep out the weather. It has radiant in-floor heating and is well insulated, so it feels perfectly comfortable. The owners have taken care to supply everything you could ever need and everything is well labeled so you can find your way. There is even a "boat house" which is very fun for the kids. The driveway continues down to the private beach, where we were able to back our double jet ski trailer into the water and launch our jet skis without trouble. There is plenty of parking on site for cars and boat trailers. You can walk up the driveway to the street where there are a grocery store, a liquor store, and gas station. The property is not far from the ferry terminal or the main part of Ketchikan, which has plenty of shopping (everything you could ever need for boating and fishing!) and restaurants. The owners live a couple of miles away, so if you need anything, they are able to help. We plan to return to this property!
Our family vacation to Ketchikan was by far one of the best. The Hidden Cove house was immaculate and Ray and Kathy have thought of every conceivable item that you may need or want while at the house. You could literally stay at the house and have enough to do without adventuring out. We enjoyed walking on the beach looking at all the different kinds of starfish, urchins, crabs and little fish. We saw seals from the beach and there were even two eagles flying in the area. Me and my family will definitely go back again and are planning to go back again next year. Thank you Ray and Kathy for sharing your home and Ketcikan with us.
We've stayed in many home away properties and this ties for our favorite. It is a beautiful home with carefully selected furnishings and art that fit perfectly with the private, pristine surroundings. Ray and Kathy manage this personally and they have equipped the home as if they lived there. We toured/fished during the day and sat around the shoreline fire pit in the evening. You will never run out of firewood. We had three couples staying in the house in private, generously sized bedrooms. The house and grounds are big enough that you can enjoy the company but find solitude when you want it. The little boat house, a gem in itself, was one of those private places to go.
Ray and Kathy are always available to offer local knowledge. They recommended our fishing charting, Jim Moody, and we limited out on both salmon and halibut by mid-afternoon. They also recommended several restaurants that won praise from all of us.
We lived in Ketchikan in the past and this is one of the nicest properties on the island. I write this review hesitantly because we are afraid the place might become popular and will find it hard to book in the future. We certainly plan to return.
For those of you looking for the perfect get away or just a wonderful place to stay while you are visiting Ketchikan, look no further. Kathy and Ray have thought of everything. There are high quality linens on the most comfortable beds, breakfast items for everyone in your party, entertainment and scenic views galore. I can't say enough about this property. You can fish off the shore, swing while cruise ships go by or sit by the fire, your choices are endless. If I had to add anything my husband would liked to have had a large freezer in the garage and the ability to shower upstairs. We had a party of 3 couples who enjoyed the property just as much as I did. If you thinking about it just do it, you won't regret it. I highly recommend this property.
The Hidden Cove Beach House is a very short walk(across the street!) from a large convenience store (beer, wine and spirits) fishing license, gas station etc. A brand new restaurant/bar (The Last Frontier) is just a quarter mile down the road. We are located at the end of the city bus route. Bus leaves at 10 minutes past the hour and cost is $1.00. Both marinas(rent boats, kayaks, fishing charters, fishing gear, and tours) are just three miles from Hidden Cove. Fantastic hiking trails are minutes away. Downtown Ketchikan is a fifteen minute drive. The best part of Hidden Cove is it is so close to everything but yet it feels as if you are on your own island! Please read our reviews.
