SPACIOUS AND RELAXING QUALITY NEW HOME

San Miguel de Allende House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Casa Julia is a new house in a four house gated courtyard, the entrance to which is through a huge wooden antique door with portico and bovida ceiling. The courtyard is lined with attractive plantings with a central fountain. The architectural design is both contemporary and traditional Mexican with beautiful tile floors, kitchen and bathrooms.

The soft tones of the off white walls gives it a wonderful feeling of airiness as well as a great background to hang original art work. The house is a three story with living room, dining room and half bathroom on the main floor. There is a small private patio off the breakfast/dining area which is ideal for morning coffee or breakfast. The next or second floor has the master and twin bedrooms with balconies and a common sitting room area between these rooms. The third floor has the queen bedroom with large sitting room/office between it and its own outside patio. All bedrooms have their own bathrooms.

There is a laundry room off the patio on this floor which leads up to the roof garden which has a built in wet bar, patio table and chairs as well as deck chairs to relax in. From here there is a magnificent view of the historic centre as well as other lovely town views. The patio is also a great place to enjoy the early morning sun as well as indulging in drinks and dinner whilst savoring the amazing skies at sunset.

The house is fully furnished with good quality furnishings. The kitchen has a microwave, coffee maker, toaster and blender. There is a small bar area, with stools, attached to the kitchen for casual meals or drinks.

Rates. April to Nov: $700 per week or $120 per night.

Dec to March 31st: $800 per week or $120 per night. Both seasons a minimum of 3 night stay.

I was born and educated in the UK. After completing my training in physiotherapy and acupuncture, I worked for a few years in London and then moved to Vancouver, Canada. I then worked in my own private practices in Vancouver and on Salt Spring Island, BC. Since the age of 16 I have also studied art in both the UK and Vancouver. I’ve painted since my twenties and have shown and sold my work in galleries in Vancouver and on Salt Spring Island, B.C., Canada. I also enjoy working in mixed media.

Lesley purchased this house in 2009

I was drawn to San Miguel because of my love of art. My interest was peeked when an ex patient of mine started to visit the town in her late seventies and took up painting. When she moved permanently, I felt I had to visit and take a look for myself. As soon as I arrived I loved everything about it, including the lovely climate as well as the feeling of being so alive!! I bought Casa Julia on my first visit!

Upon entering this particular house I was overcome with a feeling of calmness and tranquility. The fireplaces in each of the bedrooms and living room give the house a feeling of coziness when needed. Having coffee, meals or drinks on the patios is a delight. I was very much drawn to the neighborhood of Colonia San Antonio where I bought the house because it is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the jardin and historic Centro (which has the Parroquia, the Biblioteca, public library, Bellas Artes, Teatro Angela Peralta, craft market and a lot more). It is also an attractive 10 minute walk to the Instituto Allende. There is easy access to all art, language, alternative health, cooking classes and other numerous activities whilst staying in this lovely town. This neighborhood is a little bit out of the main hub which affords it a feeling of a country town, but the house’s roof top allows a fantastic view of the historic centre. The atmosphere here is quiet, friendly and delightful with bougainvillea lined streets. Just 5 minutes away by foot there are some good restaurants and the huge San Juan de Dios market.

Casa Julia a home away from home

This is the fourth time that my two friends and I, who are artists, have stayed in San Miguel for a month of art and total enjoyment of the beauty of San Miguel de Allende. Casa Julia far exceeds the other accommodation we have had in past years. It is exceptionally clean, thanks to the wonderful maid, Gaby, who comes twice a week. It is new, decorated tastefully, and is supplied with new and very good quality everything, from sheets and duvets, to dishes, and flower vases. The wifi works well and there is a telephone for local calls. The house is very comfortable and much roomier than we expected. Each floor has a sitting area and is light and airy. There are 3.5 bathrooms and they are all clean and work very well. The rooftop garden has a covered table and chairs and a sink with running water. The laundry facilities are excellent. The neighborhood is Mexican with friendly families and little shops such as an excellent bakery, and fresh produce. The streets are cobblestones, so be sure to bring sturdy shoes for walking, and a flashlight for seeing in the dark on the walk home at night. We always walked at night together, never one person alone, and we always felt safe. We are looking forward to returning to Casa Julia again.

Owner's Response: Thank you...Yes I agree it is a lovely Casa! Interestingly enough there are many houses in the neighbourhood, and especially along Alameda and Vergel, that are either American or Canadian owned.........they were probably all inside doing their artwork when you walked by!

Beyond expectations

My wife and I stayed at Casa Julia with another couple for six weeks this past winter and we have booked for 2 mos.in 2013.Location is great in a quiet neighbourhood comprised mostly of very friendly Mexican families and very close to local fresh fruit/vegetable markets,as well as meat/poultry and fish.We walked to all points of interest we chose as well as the wide choice of restaurants which are plentiful and many just a 10-15 minute walk, some of which is uphill to the popular Centro and Instituto areas.Pictures of the Casa are accurate and we found the actual ambiance exceeded expectations.
Travel to interesting nearby towns is easy and economical on first class buses and provides access to more theatre and arts if what is available in San Miguel isn't enough.
The Casa itself is well maintained, cleaned twice a week and the in town manager is available on short notice when and if required. You will find adequate space for personal quiet time here, if you wish, and there is lots of space and necessary amenities should you choose to do some entertaining.

A Great Place to Stay in San Miguel

We spent 4 weeks in this house in November 2010 and enjoyed it very much. The neighbourhood is great with a nice mix of westerners and Mexicans. There are several good small family owned restaurants nearby, particularly a great little fresh seafood one only 2 blocks away. As well there are several small shops for food essentials within 2 blocks and the San Juan de Dios market is only a short walk from the house for fresh produce and all kinds of other things.
It is an easy though somewhat uphill 15 minute walk to the main square of the city, and taxis and buses are readily available within 2 blocks of the house if you don't feel like walking. Buses are only 5 pesos to ride and the taxis are 25 to 30 pesos so very economical.
San Miguel is a beautiful city with a very old and interesting history and the old colonial buildings are both colourful and abundant. There is something new and interesting to see around every corner and so we recommend taking lots of time to wander up and down all the little streets you come across. When you feel like you have done enough sightseeing there are lots of other things to do. Buy the local bilingual newspaper "The Atencion" from the newsman in the Jardin (central square) who is there every day from norning till night and you will find all the info you need to enjoy what is happening in San Miguel.
Lesley's house is well equipped for your stay and is it very comfortable, with large ensuite baths and large closets for each bedroom. The 2 rooftop patios are especially nice to relax on after a busy day walking around exploring San Miguel and there is also a great little outdoor patio off the kitchen to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning.
We can certainly recommend this as a wonderful place to stay in San Miguel.
