We love to travel and to learn about people and their cultures.
We are true animal lovers and have many pet 'family members.'
We enjoy spending time with our friends and family, and most of all, with each other.
Owner Jennifer Meyers purchased this house in 2005
Over the years so many of our own special memories that we hold dearly in our hearts are times that we have spent with our own family and friends at vacation rentals.
The wildlife, the peaceful quiet, the fireplace, the lake, and the beauty!
The rest of the world is so conveniently close by.
Dear Jennifer & Bruce,
Thanks so much for creating this perfect vacation retreat. We really love the cottage-everything that you have done is perfect! The furniture is very comfortable. We really appreciate the extras you left for us: The coffee, chocolate, bottled water, ice, and condiments. Thanks for letting us bring our cat. Royal payne came over to visit everyday- an extra bonus! What an extraodinary lovely place. Thank You
The log home on Lake Crabapple was gorgeous! It was warm and cozy with a true cabin feel. The wood-burning fireplace was great and the layout of the home suited us perfectly. Every amenity was there, and Jennifer and Bruce were gracious hosts who were available to answer questions, but left us in peace.
The lake itself was wonderful. We adored the doves cooing, the frogs croaking, the fish jumping and the hummingbirds circling. The Eagles were amazing as they searched for food.
We also loved the 2 resident (next door) dogs and the cat who spent the night with us. They wander in and out, just like our pets at home. For us, it elevated the trip to have such lovely pets available for patting.
We enjoyed the boat with the electric motor, and had some luck fishing off the dock.
We were fortunate to have 3 spectacular days, and even watched a full moon rise over the lake! For us, it was the perfect quiet, peaceful, warm, relaxing getaway!! We can't wait to bring our two teenagers to experience the wonder of a true lake vacation!
The log home is truly magical; elegantly and whimsically furnished, the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in away from home, and has views that melt away your cares. We loved having surrogate animal friends visit with us; it was the first time we weren't totally missing our four-leggers at home. If you love animals and need to totally kick back; the Crabapple Log Home is for you.
My wife and I wanted something close to Bellingham, as we planned to visit with my daughter who is graduating from WWU soon. We wanted to be able to see the Tulips near Mt. Vernon and have Easter dinner reservations at the La Conner Seafood & Prime Rib. We wanted a lakefront rental with the option for canoeing and hot tubbing if the urge grabs us. We were not disappointed! I saw the comment about the barking dogs, and they are barking to have you stop and pet them. We left our animals at home, but having yours join us from next door has been fun. Both dogs and the cat have joined us for a while each day, sometimes twice, but they never overstay their welcome. Today the sun was out and Mary and I enjoyed a nice lap around the lake in the canoe. We have enjoyed a fire in the fireplace two of our three nights. We are planning to go for a walk now, then bbq and enjoy some of the movies. The selection of music cds has been perfect for relaxing with a book and glass of wine. We look forward to coming back when it's a little warming out. Thanks again for providing such a great quiet retreat...the sound of the Doves is most relaxing! Til later!
We stayed at this property from Sep 12th thru Sep 15th and have only best comments about it. Home is beautiful and spacious, accommodating 6 people parties easily. Lake is very peaceful and it is real enjoyment canoeing on it or taking a ride with electric motor boat which was provided. We even managed to catch few rainbow trouts while there. Overall, it was great experience and we look forward to visiting this property again this winter.
Future guests should know what to expect from this shared rental property. This vacation was ruined by the unexpected fact that it was 'communal use property' and the 'live with it or you will find your belongings outside' interactions with the owner. That and three nights of being awoken by firecrackers between 1-2 am and music blasting from the house across the lake until 5am, as well as fireworks shot off and music blasted at times during day directly across the lake.
We arrived to my mom being scared by a large barking, growling dog a few feet away at a neighbour's home when she stepped into the patio. My mom has a very fearful of dogs after being bitten in the past by a large dog. A dog next door growling and barking should be manageable with a leash as the solution.
Two dogs have free roam unattended of the three properties with this rental in the middle. The owner refused to ask her neighbours to leash their large dog and threatened to remove our belongings and lock us out the second night. We spoke to the neighbours ourselves the first night, had leash agreement. The next day seems they spoke to the owners unhappy about leashing the dog & this owner came over and reacted very poorly - only apologizing after I spoke to her neighbours again -at her request!
Renters should know in advance and decide for yourself if the situation would work for before arriving because concerns over the fear of the roaming dog were dismissed.
We were left with no choice but to agree to the dog having free roam on occasion with warning provided to us verbally the dog was coming out. No other rentals had vacancy within 3 hrs drive - I looked after night 2.
As guests we felt totally powerless in the situation even though the rental was not meeting expected exclusive use.
The next 3 nights we were abruptly awoken by fireworks at 1-2am and music blasting music blasting until 5am including sometimes during the day.
The owner did not communicate anything to us regarding the continued disturbances night after night.
Take note the cabin is also sandwiched in between the two homes ten or so feet on either side and this makes for close to zero privacy along with the 'communal' space style functioning as we were told about upon arrival. So make sure that's a comfortable rental arrangement for your party, because you can expect you will be sharing your rental space, and every conversation as the homes are very very close together and nothing is private.
I can't say enough about how wonderful our experience was at the cottage!!! Jennifer (the owner) was so responsive and easy to deal with at every stage. I was nervous about finding a place from across the country but it was everything we hoped for and more! The cottage is spacious and the view gorgeous! Even on the grey NW days it was magical. The cottage is so well stocked, they have thought of everything. We had such a wonderful experience and the cottage was a huge part of that. Thank you!!!
