Escape the fast-paced world in the Green Cottage on Morro Bay, a very private Cottage. The Cottage is quiet, cozy and sits next to the water on Morro Bay, California. It is a peaceful and romantic guest hideaway for lovers … lovers of nature, art, thought, books, wine, adventure, discovery, solitude and soul, but especially for those who love and love to nurture themselves. There are no jangling phones, fax machines, blaring TVs, traffic sounds or other intrusions on your retreat.

The Cottage says:

“I have a tale to tell, my very own…won’t you come inside awhile and help me sing my song? I may be just a small beach cottage, but step into my entry and you’ll be welcomed by an eclectic mixture of art and antiques collected by my family over the years and lovingly displayed to create a romantic and intimate environment to inspire you during your stay.'

'I sit on a bird sanctuary on the rural Central Coast of California, where I enjoy unobstructed 280 degree views of the Bay and mountains.

'I offer you the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, in romance, here in 'the middle kingdom' as National Geographic once called my region of California. I am your natural escape, your refuge and your home base for exploring all that is around me and all that is within you.

'Come and stay a spell with me. Read one of my intriguing books filled with short stories or watch one of my many DVDs. Make tea or cook a gourmet meal in my fully equipped kitchen to enjoy by candlelight or under the stars on my kitchen’s deck. Snuggle into my sea foam green king-size bed.

'Curl up with a good book in my corner reading chair, peruse original art on my walls, and discover my handmade baskets and carvings from South America, the South Seas, and local Native Americans. Enjoy a glass of award-winning Central Coast wine as you sit quietly on my deck and watch the pelicans, herons, snowy plovers and peregrine falcons while the sun slips silently into the horizon.

'I have seen and heard many things in my three score and ten years. Like all places where people dwell, there is a spirit here that has been shaped by the personalities, conversations, and temperament of those who have spent time here. I have been occupied by travelers, adventurers, writers, painters, photographers, romantics and naturalists…and by my owners’ four generations of artists and lovers of life. Their presence lingers in the air and invites you to both partake and contribute your own essence to my evolving character.' --- The Green Cottage on Morro Bay

About Pandora Nash-Karner

The Cottage has been in our family for two generations. We have lived on the bay for over three decades and love it, and love to share it with others. The Cottage was originally built to shelter the duck hunters and fishermen who were attracted here, but it was soon bought in the 1950's by our parents and was used as a residence while they built their dream home next door. The Cottage has been our family's guesthouse since then and we've just made it available as a vacation rental. The charm as a family retreat has been retained through the complete refurbishing received in 2009. We have designed the Cottage to provide our guests with the perfect opportunity to immerse themselves in the Central Coast experience. We are not the Best Western -- just the opposite. What our guests won't find here are ringing phones, blaring TV or fax machines -- all by design, although we do provide wireless internet service and a 38' HDTV for watching DVDs, plus over 300 DVDs to choose from. We want the cottage to provide guests with the ability to ESCAPE the fast-paced world. We've tried to provide everything we can think of to make our guests feel pampered and comfortable.

Pandora Nash-Karner purchased this cottage in 1950

Why Pandora Nash-Karner chose Los Osos

This has been a private guest house for our family for over 6 decades. When it is not used by the family, it is available for visitors.

What makes this cottage unique

The bay is part of the National Estuary Program, as well as a designated bird sanctuary. There are many places nearby to view birds, including a private dock. Morro Bay is an important stopover on the Pacific Flyway and winter home to numerous bird species. The north coast area of San Luis Obispo County is a haven for artists, wine and food aficionados, water sports enthusiasts, antique collectors, hikers, mountain bikers, equestrians, and people who appreciate quiet, undiscovered get-away locations. When the lure of open spaces calls you, follow winding country roads to award-winning vineyards for wine tasting, or to grassy hilltops for a picnic overlooking the Pacific. Beautiful Hearst Castle is just 35-minutes away, and beyond that is the splendor of the Big Sur coastline.

San Luis Obispo's initials -- SLO -- precisely describes the speed a visitor should use in examining the area's treasures and pleasures. Go to fast and you'll miss of the off-the beaten path venues hidden back in the hills and canyons like the Pozo Saloon, See Canyon apple farms, Tibor Canyon organic olive oil Ranch or the charming town of Harmony, with a population of 15.

A real home away from home, right on the water

  • 5 of 5
The Green Cottage is a genuine haven. Everything you need is already there, and if not, Pandora and Gary will supply it or tell you where you can find it. The kitchen is fully equipped for eating in, including sharp knives, and Pandora considerately had on hand freshly ground coffee, cream, yogurt, fruit, and oatmeal so that we enjoyed our first morning on the bay without having to go out.

The cottage is very comfortable and beautifully furnished; everywhere you look there is something pretty and unique on a wall or on a table. Thoughtfully maintained and in immaculate condition, it is just right for two, but another room has a daybed in it should you need it. The bathroom has extra towels and mats, and the kitchen has linens, hot pads, paper towels--again, everything you need.

You will be tempted to spend all of your time at the cottage. A helpful library about the area informs you of the local wildlife, attractions, and history. Naps in the comfortable king bed with Pandora's designer quality quilt are restful and restorative. A huge collection of DVDs and reading books are an entertainment alternative in the evenings. The patio is right on the water and gives you a lovely view of the dunes and the small towns of Baywood Park and Morro Bay. Ever-changing tides and a variety of birds will amuse you for long periods of time, and you will be baffled trying to capture the light on the water and dunes with your camera. At night in the quiet of the dead end street, the towns softly glow across the water.

But there are many things to do there, so you will venture forth. We rode our bikes, walked some of the area's many trails, played golf at the nearby Sea Pines Resort executive course, shopped at the surprisingly bountiful local farmer's market, and toured some of the abundant art galleries featuring a rich array of local artists. Although we preferred to eat most meals at the cottage, we did love the fish and chips at Lil Hut in Morro Bay for lunch, and there are many good restaurants within a short drive. Pandora, Gary, and the annotated notebooks in the cottage can provide you with many more options for activity and dining.

Of course we are hesitant to rave on and on since the cottage is increasingly booked, but we will take our chances on getting a week's reservation there again next year and the next. The cottage has a tranquil and embracing spirit that we need to experience again.

Owner's Response: We love our return guests! We get to know them and their likes, and as a result we can better recommend places for them to explore, visit, sip wine, and/or dine. Whether it trails with panoramic views or an organic olive farm, a fabulous art opening in an out-of-the-way gallery, we enjoy suggesting unusual things for our guests to do and enjoy. This couple took advantage great golfing and wonderful "foodie" restaurants, plus our mostly organic Monday Farmer's Market.

Relaxing and romantic!

When my boyfriend and I opened the door to the cottage, we both had huge smiles on our faces. We couldn't believe how darling the cottage was. We explored every nook in the place and kept saying to each other, "Oh, you have to see this!" There's so much charm and character in this cottage, and it's clear how much love and care the owner and caretaker put into this place. We were pleasantly surprised that every plant and flower was real. The bouquet of beautiful flowers that greeted us when we walked in smelled heavenly. We loved the location, especially hearing the sound of the gentle waves in the evening and then seeing our "neighbors" in the morning (the pelicans, sandpipers, egrets, etc.). I kept going out to the back balcony to read and just enjoy the view. The drives to both Pismo Beach (to the south) and Morro Bay (to the north) are fairly short and also beautiful. We can't wait to visit again. My boyfriend, who usually stays in hotels for vacations, said, "The cottage is better than any hotel" and I agree with him. Thank you!

Owner's Response: We work very hard to ensure the Cottage far exceeds our guests' expectations. When the garden is in bloom, the flowers are from our personal garden which currently has over 70 varieties of fragrant, self-root roses. It really is fun to add the little touches that make our guests' stays an enjoyable experience, not just a weekend rental. Come back soon!

Back Again!

  • 5 of 5
We just returned from another wonderful stay at Green Cottage. My husband and I both have busy, stressful careers, and returning to Green Cottage provides the quiet respite we need to recharge. Pandora and Gary provide just the right cozy touches to make you feel you are arriving at your own home-away-from-home on beautiful Morro Bay. The cottage is private, quiet, and romantic. The weather was gorgeous this past week. We were able to go bike riding, kayak over to the dunes and the Back Bay Cafe for coffee, and picnic on the deck while watching herons, egrets, pelicans, otters and a seal! Green Cottage provides everything we need to relax and renew. We will be back again soon!

Owner's Response: Some of our guests want a quiet, peaceful visit. Others, like this couple, want adventure, activities and unusual places to visit. We enjoy sharing our area's bountiful opportunities with our guests. Pointing this couple to the dunes for an afternoon of exploration hit the spot. We really look forward to this couple's annual visit.

This is my sixth stay at the Green Cottage. Every time I come there are many things that are the same..
perfectly appointed, always very clean, great goodies in frig, beautiful flowers waiting, mint on my pillow! Then there are the things that are new...
art work, dishes, games, DVD's, herb container garden, beautiful towels and sheets, garden art.
Anything you could ever want is here...exactly as described on website.
There are so many things to do in such a short distance from the cottage. Pandora has amassed a collection of brochures on anything of interest.
I would have to say I will
never tire of coming to the Green Cottage and I look forward to many future adventure and memories shared there.

Owner's Response: When we started to share our family guest house on VRBO, we never thought we would have a following of loyal repeat guests so quickly. It is very nice to know our guests have appreciated what we provide for them. The Cottage is spotless, filled with the things we love -- art and creature comforts -- and a very functional kitchen with very sharp knives and lots of pots and pans for gourmet meals or just something simple. And then there is the's breathtaking.
