My name is Olivier and with my friend Alexandre , we rent apartments for tourists in Paris
We will very happy to welcome you in one of ours apartments all located in the heart of Paris around PICASSO MUSEUM AND PLACE DE VOSGES.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 2005
This apartment is located in the new fashion area in Paris the UPPER MARAIS
with lots of cafes , restaurants ,art gallery and shops
great area, quiet, sunny, fashion
I stayed off season and benefited from a reduced rate, but I would pay a bit more for the apartment in warmer months if only for the wonderful terrace — so lovely was it that I bundled up for December temps and sat outside with a drink many times, taking in the always pleasing view of the roofs. The apartment was ideal for a solo traveler (though could work for two or a couple plus baby [no bath but a big trough sink in the kitchen]). Very well appointed — it had character and warmth, was stocked with thoughtful, streamlined essentials (some DVDs, a Bialetti, lots of good Paris books). The smart layout makes a smallish space feel spacious (everything is discreetly tucked away, the loft bed feels like a private escape at the end of the day and how fun to fall asleep staring at the stars over Paris through the skylight). Really nice sitting area. The kitchen is small, but facilitates picnic dinners of charcuterie, fromages and salades procured during days spend walking across the city. Alexandre made the excellent recommendation of the Marché des Enfants Rouges (a 30 second walk away), which has about ten great restaurants (Moroccan, bento, Italian, organic, burgers, Lebanese) that also offer takeaway, fruit and veg stands, a little bookseller offering great vintage postcards, etc.
The location is terrific, a good compromise between those who favour off-the-beaten-path and the concentrated tourist centre, on a quiet street near the Marais, but thankfully not in the heart of it (you can avoid Vielle de Temple should you find yourself exasperated with claustrophobia around all those slow-walking foreign hipsters in Parisian sheep’s clothing). Easy walk to the splendours of Belleville, both the old (Chinese pharmacies, Algerian bakeries) and new (experimental wine bars from young neo bistro chefs). Five minutes from Chasse et Nature (go!)
Check in and check out were easy. It was a really quiet apartment throughout the day and night and I found it very easy to sleep (almost no sounds from the road, some noise from the building's internal courtyard audible, but it's a quiet building).
Two very minor issues (that won't prevent me from renting it again): The dryer didn't work/beeped occasionally (though he was addressing this issue on my day of departure) and there was a bit of a stagnant water smell from the electric toilet (so what? Keep the bathroom door closed and it's fine or open the balcony doors...)
I stayed in several apartments during my stay in Paris and this one was by far my absolute favorite!! It is in heart of the Marais next to the best cafes, wine shops, patisseries, groceries, metro, shops etc. It is spacious yet cozy and felt like home. It has a cute little patio so you can sit out and see the sky and the street below. It was extremely neat and clean!! I never saw any ants which I read in an early comment. It was very tidy and looks well taken care of. The host was extremely kind and on time for check in and made sure there was everything I needed for my stay. I highly reccommend this place and will for sure be renting this place again if/when i return to Paris. I absolutely loved it and the area around it is the best place in Paris!!
My husband and I, both in our 40's, truly enjoyed our stay in the Marais. We were in town during one of the hottest weeks of the summer, and although it took us a while to figure out how to use the air conditioning, we found that it worked and kept us comfortable. The apartment is in an excellent location and so close to lovely food shops and markets too. It was a perfect home base for us to have our breakfast in the morning and return after a long day out and about. There are countless cafes and restaurants nearby for dinner. We really liked the deck with plantings. We didn't expect to spend much time in the apartment itself. The apartment is big enough for 2, but we think it's too small for 4. Yes, there were a few SMALL ants when we got to the apartment, but we were able to get rid of them quickly, and they didn't appear again. Alexandre wasn't able to be there when we arrived, but he had arranged for a friend to be there. We would certainly recommend this property to others who want to feel a part of Paris life. In the evening we could hear some jazz and opera being played from apartments across the street, and we loved it.
Pros- 10 min to metro, cafes close by, air conditioned, washing machine (knew never to use drying cycle in European machines!!), small balcony to place drying rack, Alexandre DID come back to fix tv remote and explain washing machine. Cons- AC does not reach bed loft, slept on pull out ( at 50+, not preferrable), ants everywhere and we did NOT even cook, other than a half roll of TP, basics such as paper towels, dish soap for cleaning cups and utensils, laundry detergent, napkins, were NOT there for our 5 day stay (of course, we had our own shampoo, soap, toothpaste and did not expect those amenities), 5 European flights up and at night lights do not come on as quickly as you need them- we needed to use our flashlight on our iPhones when coming off the street, a tiny cubby for clothes (we travel light and had carry ons)- my husband never unpacked his carry-on, tiny bathroom. We are not terribly picky travelers and we were even ok to sleep on the uncomfortable pull out to be near AC and take the European 5 flights up, but this studio apartment would be best for the 20 somethings who don't mind ants, cramped quarters, and spending your vacation money on basic supplies for the many renters to come after you.
We recently stayed in this apartment and had several issues. The air conditioning stopped working on our second day and we were without any air conditioning for half of our stay. The owner showed up at 7PM on our last night with a fan. When we asked him what he might do to compensate us for us getting no sleep on our second day (the temperature in the apartment was 88 degrees at midnight), he responded that in a loud voice that he couldn't believe we were asking him the question and he abruptly turned around and walked out closing the door behind him. Before leaving he made a comment about the A/C having been installed by someone who was not trained or certified. Besides no A/C, the kitchen was alive with ants which we fought with a can of Raid we found under the kitchen sink so obviously someone knew of this problem and left the Raid for future residents. Due to this we were careful not to leave any food out and to take out the garbage frequently. If we could have rearranged out flight home we would have left a day early. We regret having to post this negative review. The owner should have responded more quickly to our issues and should work on his interpersonal skills which would have alleviated us having to make this post.
We spent 7 nights at this location in April 2013. I would say there are several positive aspects of this apartment: its location, a balcony, free internet and long distance calls. We ate at a different restaurant every night without ever leaving the block. The Metro was a quick 10 minute walk away and proved to be easy access to all the Paris attractions. The apartment was adequate but a bit small for our tastes. The bathroom was tiny but the shower was heaven. The bedroom is what we would call a "loft". One cannot stand up in the bedroom (I'm under 5'2") and you need to crabwalk to the bed, the mattress of which rests on the floor. The only way I went down the narrow stairs was by hugging the wall. My recommendation to the owners is to add a simple handrail. Overall, our experience was a positive one and we will always cherish our memories of our stay in Paris.
