About Bonny Paulson, Owner

A retired Flight Attendant [for a major airline] and a retired US Air Force Career man continue on to love their life out in nature and amongst the wildlife. We thrive on the clean mountain air and the solitude of the hollow, with the lovely stream running thru it. It is such a perfectly beautiful place and truly magic at Cabin At The Mill. We want to share that with other people by opening up of private Guest House on the property and let others experience this amazing place.

Bonny Paulson, Owner purchased this cabin in 2006

Because there is no other place like this on earth ... it is that special..

Perfect setting

  • 5 of 5

This is exactly what we were hoping for and it even surpassed our expectations. The cabin has everything you need- grill, cooking utensils, etc. All we had to bring was the food. We had only two people and one dog, but there was an extra room with bunk beds so it would have fit a family just fine.

Very dog friendly. Ours had a blast running around the property- which was the perfect amount of room for her to run around. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful- she recommended a few wineries and we were able to bring the dog and enjoy a great afternoon- all within about 3 miles of the cabin. No cell service or wifi but it was actually really great not to have those distractions. Deck in front is perfect- plenty of room, big table with an umbrella that provided a great amount of shade, hammock. Just a really great setting and only 1.5 hours from DC. Highly recommend!

Owner's Response: We attract the greatest clientele and Lindsey is such a good example of that. We hope she comes back soon and she brings all her friends with her because there is so much to do in the area and we truly are in wine country beauty here. Thanks for the great stay Lindsey. The getaway we needed

  • 5 of 5

Great cabin! We went with our two daughters (age 4 and 1). They loved the cabin loft and the playground. It was a great weekend for our family to reconnect.

Owner's Response: This family fit the perfect American Family description, all the way down to a gorgeous Golden Retriever. We were so pleased to have them come and stay with us and fill their lungs with fresh mountain air and their ears with white water sounds from the stream. It was a great adventure for everybody. Gorgeous. Peaceful. Perfect.

Definitely a special place. The cabin was clean, well-decorated, and full of little details that made us feel at home right away. I don't even want to mention everything, because it is so fun to explore. The beds were super comfortable! Close to national park, wineries, and restaurants but feels worlds away from everything. With all of the amenities, you could easily have a great vacation without ever leaving the cabin. Jim, the owner, was wonderful; he made everything so simple. The dogs, the kids, and the grown-ups all had an amazing time!

Perfect little cabin

  • 5 of 5

Four girls went last weekend for fall foliage and hiking. It rained every minute we were there, but we loved staying in our "home". We did hike Little Devil's stairs in the rain and these 60 plus years old finished it and alive. We came back to our cabin and after showering (wonderful shower in the sweet bathroom) we broke out the games and had dinner with our wine. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking in, although we wanted to grill and sit by the fire. Another time in the sunshine. The owner greeted us upon arrival, but already had the lights and music on. We felt welcome. Thank you

Cabin At The Mill

  • 5 of 5

The spot was beautiful...right in the middle of the woods near a stream. The owners were wonderful and welcoming. The cabin was warm, quiet and very comfortable. We enjoyed spending our 15th wedding anniversary there along with our VERY welcomed furry four legged children. We only wish we had more time to spend there at the cabin and chat with the owners (very nice people).

Owner's Response: We are so realistic and know that people come to the "Cabin At The Mill" NOT to bond with the owners but to enjoy the environment, so we make sure once our clients check in, they are not bothered again by us and their stay is how they create and envision it. Although it is incredibly difficult to do since most of our clients are interesting and personable, we have to respect their motivations and instincts coming to such a wonderful place. These two ladies came to attend a couple of wedding in the area and we found them interesting and inviting but kept our distance knowing they were busy and focused. We have a difficult calling here. Perfect

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week at the Cabin at the Mill with our 4 year-old. It was perfect. Clean, comfortable, and attractive on the inside, manicured but still wild on the outside. Thunderstorms, clear days, stars at night, wildlife -- turkeys in the yard. The little country playground was so fun. We all loved it and called it home immediately. So grateful for our time there. We will return for sure. (One thing -- I enjoyed the lack of cell reception, but others might be surprised.)

There is no need to invest in white sound on the property because there is noting like hearing the sound of our stream [at night] with your windows wide open and soft, gentle breezes, in the Spring and Fall. If it is too hot in mid summer, the cabin has central airconditioning to make your stay perfect. If you cannot sleep like a baby out here, you seriously need to see your doctor. We encourage you to spend an evening under the star on the cabin deck with a fire going in the chiminea. If all this is not exactly your idea of a cabin experience, we also provide a hammock and hammock chair to swing the hours away with a nap or good book. Or perhaps you would rather spend time on porches hanging swing/bench looking out onto the stream or peaceful green meadow on either side of the cabin. You never know what wildlife creature you might see that day. We welcome well behaved family dogs so it will be a perfect time
