20 feet from the water, this cozy, quiet waterfront getaway on Mobile Bay in Fairhope, Alabama is a perfect place for writing, painting, or just hanging around on the wharf catching Blue Crabs. The town of Fairhope is a quaint bay-front village that began in the 19th century as an artists colony, and it still retains much of this feel, couched in a Deep-South warmth.
The center of town has many quaint shops that add to this charm and evoke a feeling of stepping back in time. The house itself invites you to sit and rock, watch the pelicans, herons, and gulls fly overhead, and boil some of those crabs you catch on the pier.
For those who can tear themselves away from the boiling of seafood and the clink of ice in the glass, the Gulf of Mexico is but a short drive away. Have a good time, and remember: This is the home of 'Forrest Gump', 'Cheeseburgers in Paradise' (found at Pirate's Cove), 'Margaritaville', and in nearby Mobile, the original Mardi Gras!
GREAT WAYS TO ENJOY THE HOUSE
Brush your teeth on the deck by the light of the full moon;
Sleep out on the pier at least once if you can;
Turn off the ac/heat and open all of the windows when there is a breeze so that you can hear the sound of the water washing up on the rocks;
Count the number of pelicans that pass over the house in the afternoon;
Don’t miss a sunset;
Read more; watch TV less;
Serve drinks or dinner on the pier;
Look for porpoises chasing shrimp up and down the bay. When they are active you can see them 100-200 ft. off the end of the long piers;
Meet the neighbors; they are very nice;
Use the deck shower as often as you can;
Act out one of Shakespeare’s plays (there is a full set on the bookshelf);
As the kitchen is well equipped, learn how to make Creole Seafood Gumbo or West Indies Salad with the crabs that you catch (e-mail me for a recipe if you like).

Fairhope is a diamond in the rough! An artists' colony that doubles as a retirement community; a fun town that can be quiet; a village that is both civilized and laid back is hard to find indeed!
It is not only the proximity of our house to the beautiful body of water that is Mobile Bay that drew us to it, but also the pace and gentile nature of the town of Fairhope itself that makes this a genuinely special place in this country.
This is the closest house on the Eastern Shore to the water; only twenty feet! This makes the panoramic views fantastic, and your neighbors houses are built so far back that you don't even know they are there. Water views from every room are a great perk, and bay breezes through the windows are a treat! In addition, we own the lot next door, and our lots are among the deepest on this part of the bay, so there is a lot of room for children to play or to let your dogs run around.
Have we mentioned that we have the most well-equipped kitchen you will ever find in a vacation house?
Just read the reviews to see what we mean!
My wife and I stayed here following our daughters wedding Saturday. It was also a belated anniversary for us due to her wedding. We arrived to find a most peaceful and comfortable place nestled at the end of the driveway, away from the road , and right on the water. It is awesome here and is decorated like you would if you lived here, very homey and has that feel that you have been here forever. I simply love this place and will absolutely be here again. I will actually start using it when I come to the Mobile area for work so my wife can join me and I can come HOME to a restful place instead of a hotel.
The owners are very attentive to all of your needs as it is well thought out to have everything you could want or need,
Thanks guys, totally loving it here!
We had a wonderful time in Fairhope, as always. Thanks to all of you for sharing your home with us this past weekend. It was the perfect place for us to spend time relaxing and visiting with our kids and our new grandson (7 weeks old). We really enjoyed just sitting and rocking on the porch and of course the weather was absolutely perfect. On our last morning there, the porpoises put on a great show for us.
We always look forward to our trips to Fairhope and would love to stay at “A Nouste” again.
This lovely spot on Mobile bay exceeded our expectations in every way. The view from the porch at sunset was wonderful. The facilities were clean and so well maintained. We all felt that it was even better than the pictures we had seen. The owner was helpful in every way, providing us with a lot of valuable information. We followed his dining recommendations and had wonderful meals at the Wash House and at Jesse's in Magnolia Springs. We plan to return soon and have already recommended a Nouste to another couple.
Great four night stay. Spent a lot of time on the porch overlooking the water. With the prevailing wind being from the southwest during our stay, blowing direct from the open gulf, there was enough surf to enjoy the waves splashing on the rocks, giving us a real oceanfront setting. While we did not crab, there is obviously a large population, as we lifted several while fishing. If that's your bag, there are crab traps under the house to capture these critters. We are fishermen, and enjoyed catching Croaker, Hardhead Catfish and plate sized sting rays from the pier. The place is very clean, and the area extremely quiet. We also enjoyed watching the ship traffic come and go. And if you are a birder, this is the pelican, royal tern and laughing gull epi-center. If you are looking for a place close enough to the hassle of the beach, if that's your deal, but far enough away to be very peaceful, this is it!
My husband and I took our 11 yr. old grandson for a special time with just the three of us. We all had so much fun! They enjoyed fishing and crabbing off of the pier. I enjoyed taking photos of them and reading :-) Would you believe, they even caught a stingray!!! Of course we threw everything that was caught back into the water. I loved the deck upstairs and stayed there a lot! We cooked out on the grill. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. This place was more than we had hoped for! We enjoyed looking out the telescope. We drove to Gulf Shores a couple of days and went to "The Track." Our grandson enjoyed that a lot. We can't stop talking about this wonderful getaway and definitely plan to go again. I've always stayed on the beach in Alabama in the past, but I loved this just as much if not more! Our grandson loved it as much as we did! This would also be a great place to go to by yourself for nice and quiet getaway.
My husband I stayed at a Nouste for 4 nights last week and were completely pleased. Everything is as advertised. We really couldn't believe how well equipped the kitchen was. That is important to us as we like to cook in. The owners have taken great care to label everything so you really have no questions. We had a fun evening/night watching a big storm come in while sitting on the porch. Awesome. This would actually be a great place to be stranded in during a storm as there are so many books, games and magazines that you never could be bored The owners seem to really care about the quality of the rental and come through! We were there to explore the Fairhope area. As described, the property is on the coast and you surely need to drive to get to town and any restaurants.
