SETTING
Killinkere is set in the most beautiful locale in Lake Placid. The sun streams into the cathedral ceiling Great Room through the southerly exposure of the Chalet's glass wall. Only two miles from Main Street, but not another house is visible. Instead, the view is of the second highest peak in the Adirondacks, Algonquin Mountain. Killinkere is secluded at the end of a cul-de-sac, on five acres. Behind it is state forest. Truly, a place to settle in.
DESCRIPTION
The chalet is massive, with a 44 long deck, three outside entrances, 6 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, 2 stone fireplaces, 2 kitchens, a large main level Great Room, a smaller lower level Great Room, 2 dining areas, a laundry room with 2 washers and 2 dryers, 2 separate hot water systems, ample parking, and plenty of firewood. Killinkere is an all electric home, every room conveniently has its own thermostat. In summer, a sun umbrella, wooden deck furniture, picnic table, hammock and grill are provided. In winter, routine snowplowing is provided. Across the driveway is a wooden storage bin containing 4 cans from which garbage is picked up each week.
FLOOR PLAN
All 3 floors in Killinkere can be occupied as a single unit by 12 people. However, the design is such that the two floors of the upper unit can be used separately by a smaller group of 8 people. The door at the bottom of the connecting stairwell is simply locked, and the lower floor remains unrented. When left open for communal occupancy of all three floors, large groups find the two-in-one unit design to be functionally very attractive relative to meal preparation and separate social activities. For example, there are those who prefer to watch TV and those who would rather listen to music; those who wish to play a rousing game of cards and those who prefer a relaxing conversation about old times; and then there are the adults and those of the younger generation who definitely enjoy their separate spaces.
The lower unit has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, while the upper unit has 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms on 2 levels. The master bedroom on the upper level has a wood cathedral ceiling, queen size bed and full bath containing a double sized whirlpool.
Entry to the main level is via a covered porch into a large foyer with a ceramic tile floor. The foyer walls are paneled and have a series of wooden pegs along with a built-in bench convenient for hanging outer clothing and for removing boots and shoes. To the left of the foyer are 3 bedrooms served by 1.5 baths. Each bedroom has two twin beds on casters which allow them to be moved, if desired. To the right of the foyer is a wet bar and entry to the open floor plan of the Great Room, dining area and kitchen. The kitchen is completely furnished with all the usual appliances, excellent cutlery, and special Adirondack dishes. The kitchen also has an outside entrance convenient for bringing in groceries or for exiting to the outside grill. The dining table is attractive and rugged. The Great Room has 2 comfortable couches set in an L shape focusing on the stone fireplace and the mountain view.
The lower level has 2 bedrooms, with 2 twin beds each, a foyer similar to the upper unit and a complete kitchen. The kitchen also has 3 bar stools that fit under the overhanging food service counter. The dining table on this level is also rugged and attractive.
The main level and lower level both have cable TV, DVD, and VCR.
SURROUNDINGS
Opportunities abound all year. Killinkere is adjacent to the Whiteface Club Resort which has an excellent golf course, 6 clay tennis courts and a marina. In the winter, the golf course is groomed to provide beautiful cross country ski trails. Three other excellent golf courses are within fifteen minutes of the Chalet. Hike among the 46 high peaks. Fish the world renowned Asuable River. Boat on Lake Placid. Swim at the picturesque town beach in the summer or try its toboggan ride in the winter. Ski the Olympic Mountain. Ice Skate on the Olympic Oval. Attend a variety of theatrical performances at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. In both winter and summer, you can try your hand at the bobsled or ride the gondola to the mountaintop. Biking, horseback riding and snowmobiling are all available. Catch the year round ice hockey competitions at the three indoor ice arenas where the "Miracle on Ice" took place in the 1980 Olympics.
There is one national chain supermarket within one mile of the Chalet. Of course, Lake Placid has such a variety of excellent restaurants, you'll get hungry just reading their menus. Let us provide you with our list of favorites. Don't miss the Olympic venues. They are open in winter and summer, even the ski jumps. Whiteface Mountain, just 20 minutes from the Chalet, is best described as "Incredible!".
Killinkere is named after a wee town in County Cavan, Ireland. And everything hanging in the Chalet has to do with either "Irish" or sports.
