Eco-Friendly Vacation Property:
Sleeping Bison Lodge was custom designed by Rebecca F. Bundy, Design for Sustainable Living, LLC, to minimize environmental impact while providing perfect, comfortable living. Its passive solar design heats the home in winter and cools in summer. The active solar systems provide most of the home's electricity and hot water. The home is tied to the electrical grid and has an high-efficiency gas backup system, so there is never any shortage of heat or electricity. An energy efficient Rais woodstove provides an additional cozy heat source in the kitchen. Appliances were selected for efficiency, and CFL lightbulbs are used throughout. The heavy timbers used in construction were all from standing dead trees, not live. The gardens feature waterwise, native flowers and grasses and requires no irrigation. The organic veggie garden and passive solar greenhouse provide year-round, absolutely local produce.
Outdoor Paradise:
The Lodge has views of the Big Wood River, top of Baldy, Griffen Butte and Sleeping Bison Rock, for which it is named. It borders BLM land on its east property line. It is centrally located with easy access to all sorts of outdoor activities. In winter: at the north end of the bike trail, groomed for x-country skiing, 3 snowshoe trails accessible directly from the neighborhood, 5 miles from the SNRA and Harriman Trail cross-country skiing, 4 miles to Baldy ski area and 5 miles to Dollar Mountain, Sun Valley Lodge and the Sun Valley Nordic Center. In summer/fall: immediate access to 3 hiking/mountain biking trails and the bike path into Ketchum. Directly above Hulen Meadows pond, adjacent to the Big Wood River, for kayaking, world-class fly fishing, swimming and just letting the dogs run. Nearby are Big Wood and Sun Valley golf courses and the towns of Ketchum and Sun Valley. Wildlife include moose, elk, deer, black bear, coyote, fox, and a fabulous variety of native birds.
