Let the ocean lull you to sleep under a canopy of stars - The ideal get-away for the creative artist or writer – just steps away from Cooks Beach. A simply spectacular house designed by Ralph Matheson with a view from every room.
This two-bedroom, two-bath, home has floor-to-ceiling, glass cornered windows that bring white-water views of the ocean, Cook’s Beach and The Fishrocks into every room. An arched skylight the entire length of the structure fills the home with light and gives new meaning to sleeping under the stars (and the moon) at night.
The master suite offers a full bath and dressing room with walk-in closet and glass block shower. The kitchen features a large breakfast bar, gas-stove, all built-in appliances and imported German cabinets. It opens out to the dining and living rooms allowing for an ideal open entertainment area featuring custom Italian designed furniture. Radiant floor heating provides the ultimate in comfort. A wood-burning fireplace in the sunken living room and a wood-burning stove in the master bedroom provide ambiance and warmth for the cool nights on the coast. A full guest bedroom suite with full-bath on the second level provides personal privacy away from the main floor. The detached office/studio/game room allows space and privacy away from the living quarters while over-looking the ocean and open space. A 2-person hot-tub tucked in a cozy corner of the deck provides an ideal way to watch the moon rise and finish out a day of creative writing, sculpting or painting. A full double garage, enclosed decks and entry complete the package.

We fell in love with California's northern coastline and Shiosai the moment we saw it - it has been our dream house providing us a zen-like escape! We are busy Silicon Valley executives and this is how we rejuvenate ourselves when we are able to get away to Shiosai. We do love to share our special place and enjoy hearing back from our guests and what they take away from it - welcome!
The Owner purchased this house in 2003
Gualala means 'where the river meets the ocean' = an American Indian name. An old logging town, and 2 miles from Sea Ranch, Gualala offers the wonders of nature (whale watching, deer, foxes, osprey, vulture buzzards, bobcats) together with other sporting fun (golf, river kayaking, surfing). It is an artist enclave with some very special restaurants (St. Orrs). The friendly and creative residents of Gualala complete the picture. There is nothing more one could ask for!
An unobstructed white-water view of the Pacific ocean and Cook's beach. Spectacular sunsets. Osprey flying over the house with their daily catch. Spouting whales in the distance. A deer with her babies. A mesmerizing full moon over the water. Millions of stars right over your bed lighting up the night through the barrel skylight which runs through the full length of the home. What one of our guests said 'what every couple in love should experience. . . .'
Thank you for a memorable weekend. This house is perfect and the views mesmerizing; words cannot describe ;-) The weather was absolutely delightful and the deck so inviting. . .my husband fell asleep and got a nice sunburn. We weren't able to go trekking but stayed in and enjoyed every bit relaxing and watching the waves and birds. This is our first stay in Gualala and (we) plan to be back as often as we can! I doubt any other vacation home can top this wonderful "home." We love it here.
