Durango is within close proximity to the famous Mesa Verde National Park ruins, the San Juan and Uncompahgre National Forests, Durango Mountain Resort, Telluride Ski Area, Sky Ute Mountain Casino, McPhee Lake, the Trail of the Ancients, the Four Corners National Monument, and Chimney Rock Archaeological Area, Trimble Hot Springs and Pagosa Hot Springs, Dalton Ranch Country Club. Durango is also the starting point of the Million Dollar Highway. The old mining towns of Silverton and Ouray are worth the short drive. Don't forget to ride the famous Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad while you are here! There are many things for kids to do, too. Durango has a BMX park, skate park, sledding and tubing, ice skating arena, beginner ski hills, children's museum, mini-golf, go-karts, new library, and a community recreation center that offers swimming and rock wall climbing.

Ski: Durango Mountain Resort was named one of the 7 Great Mountains to Ski with Your Kids in Ski Magazine (2007) and was selected as one of the Top 20 Ski Resorts in North America in Conde Nast Traveler Magazine (2007). Also within a two hour drive is Telluride Ski Resort, Kendall / Silverton Mountain and Wolf Creek Ski Resort. Nearby small hills include Ski Hesperus and Chapman Hill. Fish / Hunt:: There are many opportunities to hunt and fish in the area with local outfitters or on your own. Elk are abundant and the Animas River boasts gold medal trout. Hike / Bike / Snowshoe: There is access to numerous trails throughout our beautiful wilderness areas. Ask for suggestions for the best places to go during your stay. River:: You can whitewater raft or kayak down the exciting Animas River. Guides or rentals available. Golf:: Area courses include Hillcrest, Pinion Hills, Dalton Ranch and The Glacier Club.
