Small, cute, clean, simple, cool and affordable get-a-way on the other side of the island, nestled up on a hill, overlooking Kaneohe Bay, probably one of the most beautiful views you'll ever see in your life. The sun setting behind the Koolau Mountains, back-dropping the Bay, the palms waving in the trade-wind breeze, sounds of birds singing in the trees shading the property; the many different shades of blues and greens, and white, fluffy clouds, coloring the landscape. Beautiful!!
(note: FYI! please be aware we are in a tropical location and do have an occasional bug that may wander in)
and lastly, we cannot offer you a 40' t.v.
nor alot of space, nor a Ja-cu-zi,
our only air? is the trade-wind breeze,
and our piped in music? The song of the bird in the tree
But, we do have 2 things we can offer you,
affordable rates, and........
A ROOM WITH A VIEW!!

Brought Mom and Dad to Hawaii when I was 7, back in the early 1900's, when they bought our home here, on the side of a hill, overlooking Kaneohe Bay, when there was only 1 road over the Pali to our side of the island. They have always entertained people as I was growing up, so we figured we should do the same and create a unit on the property so you can enjoy what we have for a reasonable price. If we don't get to personally meet, its because we are at our other cottage, 5000 miles west of here, on the island of Samar where we often spend some of our life at my wife, Ellie's, homeland.
Also look for the availability of our beach cottage on the island of Samar which is now on our other VRBO site.- including real estate for sale for those of you interested in investing in beachfront property on some of the beautiful, virgin, pristine islands within the 7,107 islands of the Philippine Archipelago.
Aloha, Uncle Dan & Ellie.

Reasonable rates, and our view
This was our first trip to Hawaii. We chose to stay at "a Room with a View" because it was away from hectic tourist locations in Honolulu, but close enough to visit. We LOVED the accommodations. The view was amazing. Uncle Dan and Ellie were GREAT. We arrived late on Nov. 1 after traveling all day. We were going to try to find a local eaterie, but were met by Dan and Ellie, who invited us to stay for dinner!! Their hospitality was wonderful! We loved falling asleep each night with the island breeze and waking every morning to have our coffee on the Lanai, before hitting the road to explore the island. If we get the opportunity, we will stay there again. Would recommend this relaxing location to anyone visiting.
I had a comfortable stay for a week at the 'Room with a View'. Spent most days at the famous Kailua and Lanikai beach, which is a short drive away. The view to the bay is truly amazing and I had breakfast on the lanai every morning. The kitchen was surprisingly well equipped with a portable gas cooker, mini fridge and some condiments. I had trouble in the bathroom switching the bathtub tap to shower mode, but Uncle Dan quickly helped me out. Like others have said, you cannot close the window completely and it was a little scary when it stormed one night, but all the other days were fine and I enjoyed the breeze. I had to ask for my rubbish bin to be emptied towards the end of the stay but once notified it was quickly attended to. Uncle Dan and Ellie are friendly and genuinely nice people. I didn't have a car on the last few days and Uncle Dan was super nice to drive me to the city where I was staying next. Thank you so much!
We were really happy with our week stay at "Room with a View". Uncle Dan and Ellie were welcoming and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed and helpful with their advice of things to do. Their larger room was available when we arrived so they generously offered us to that space which was really nice. A while before we arrived Uncle Dad let us know that a neighbor was starting to build a house below theirs and we may be bothered by the noise. As it turned out there wasn't much activity when we were there but we certainly appreciated the forewarning in case we wanted to change our plans.
Their descriptions are accurate. The space is small as noted but was attractive and clean and the kitchen had all I needed to make our meals. A rental car is necessary and it would be a good idea to arrive in daylight the first time if possible. We loved being on that quieter side of the island near wonderful beaches and with lots to see and do. Busy Honolulu was close enough to go there when we wished. We highly recommend Uncle Dad and Ellie and their 'Room with a View"!
A Room with a View was a fantastic and cosy little spot in a terrific location on the east side of Oahu. We had no issues whatsoever and the kitchen surprised us with amenities including a mini-gas stove. Another great surprise was the free wi-fi access in the room, which is a really big help if you have important business items to attend to. A rental car is almost a must at this location, which includes a free parking spot right outside the door. My wife, 1yo and I used the great location to take a quick drive down to Kualoa Ranch and go on a movie tour set. A big thank you to Uncle Dan who was very kind in understanding our changing travel itinerary. His hospitality and kind nature was very much appreciated. With an affordable price and low cleaning fee, this property is a must to check out.
The Room with a View was excellent--exactly what we hoped for. The description is very accurate -- a small studio, clean bathroom, room for cooking and the wonderful lanai with a view: perfect for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails. The owners were very helpful in answering questions ahead of time and providing good directions (despite this, it's easy to get lost in Hawaii! Might be best to arrive in daylight if you can)
We really appreciated the mini-frig, microwave and coffee maker. The butane burner was great for cooking scrambled eggs, and we appreciated the stock of dishes, utensils, cooking pots and extras that might be needed. We also appreciated being able to use beach towels and boogie boards.
I loved not being sealed up in air conditioning and enjoyed the pleasant breezes coming in around us. The wifi worked great and we were pleasantly surprised to find a small TV (normally I wouldn't watch TV on a Hawaiian vacation, but it was the Australian Open!)
It is very clear in the description, but just to reiterate: the house is on a hill and the parking is tight. This shouldn't be any big deal...just do it! Also, you are in a residential neighborhood, so there are not restaurants etc. to walk to.
If you want to get away from Waikiki hustle and bustle, and don't need to be waited on at a fancy hotel, this is definitely the place for you. We would definitely come back if on Oahu again and would certainly recommend it to friends.
And, just for the record, we were a little worried about being blown away on the windward side of the island, but the weather was calm and peaceful during our January stay. Can't speak for other times of the year, but our fears of constant wind were unfounded.
We stayed here for a week while attending a wedding in Kaneohe. . We cooked breakfast every morning and enjoyed it with Hawaiian coffee on the lanai, which has breathtaking views of the mountains and Kanoehe Bay. About 30 minutes from Waikiki, it's away from the hustle and bustle of Oahu but close to restaurants and beach in Kailua. No AC makes it very warm in August, but the open windows and the oscillating fan made it bearable. The room is very small, but clean and met our needs quite well. We had hot showers and great water pressure. The Queen size bed was VERY comfortable and we slept great every night. Uncle Dan was very accommodating and we had a wonderful stay. Beach towels are provided, which was wonderful.
