Having bought the property in 1992, I was able to have the pick of the best view lots in Tamarindo with the easiest and closest walk to the town. Casa Bambora is just high enough to see over the tree tops and is one of the only lots in Tamarindo with unobstructed views of the San Francisco Estuary in the Las Baulas National Park as well as spectacular ocean views that span Playa Langosta, Tamarindo and Playa Grande.

I'm from Huntington Beach, California. I spent many years traveling to the tropics, mostly Hawaii and mainland Mexico to surf in the warm clean water. I finally made it to Costa Rica in 1992 and discoverd Tamarindo. It was everything I was looking for and more. Nineteen years later I'm still here and still loving it.
Joey purchased this studio in 1992
I came to Tamarindo in 1992 on a surf trip and fell in love with the place!
After having spent the previous 12 years traveling to Hawaii, Mexico and Fiji for surf, I finally made it to Costa Rica, a good friend of mine had been to Tamarindo and told me that it was similar to Hawaii, but less crowded and more affordable and I should check it out. Back then the population was less than 100 people, it was quiet and the weather was great as well as the surf. I knew right away this is where I wanted to live. Real Estate was still inexpensive and I basically had the pick of the litter as far as lots were concerned. It's been 19 years I've seen lots of changes, but I still couldn't think of a better place to live.
My wife and I and our two perritos were extremely fortunate to stumble across this establishment! We have been traveling throughout much of Costa Rica for the last 5 years and with great difficulty have recently declared Tamarindo to be our favorite town to call "home". In that time we have stayed in many hotels, casitas, condos and private residencies. For us this property is now THE ONE TO BEAT. It is even more beautiful than the online pictures with 360 degree views of the entire region from the observation deck and ocean views from most of the property. The location is super quiet and private. Sitting by the pool was so tranquil that many times we skipped the beach. Joe the owner is a wonderful neighbor and it was a pleasure living with him and his "family" for the month we were there. It was a prefect place for our 2 small dogs because it is completely fenced in and secure. Also, our dogs were more than tolerated and were treated as family. The grounds are super meticulously maintained by Joe and Pablo. The rooms are more than adequate in size for our needs and extremely well taken care of. We stayed in the 1st floor studio but all the rooms are comparable with the exception of the honeymoon suite being substantially larger. Everything functioned as it should have for the entirety of our stay and the cleanliness of everything exceeded our expectations. The location to Tamarindo center is less than 10 minutes walk by way of the fabulous nature trail but there is shopping, restaurants and even the local gym that are just a few minutes walk away. I was almost selfishly tempted not to write this review because I don't want too many people to find out about this place but it is so deserving of great reviews that I had no choice. If you do decide on Casa Bambora I hope your stay will be as wonderful as ours was!!!
Great little spot - fantastic value and exactly as advertised in terms of amenities but has a much cozier feel than what I'd anticipated. If you're a seasoned traveler looking for a comfortable home base this is for you. We enjoyed the company of the other people staying during our stay too. It's a bit off the beaten path which we welcomed but close enough to get to everything you need (walkable but suggest you have a car if possible). Amazing view is true - we loved having the outdoor space and watching the sunsets from the roof. The pool is a big plus too.
My girlfriend and I had our first date in 2010 at Casa Bambora, and this year, two years to the day later, I took her back there and proposed. There were so many places that I thought I'd like to ask for her hand, but Joey's place was one of our favorite places we had ever been. Joey's place gives you the ability to be totally relaxed or active vacationers. It is just far enough away from town to be quiet but close enough to travel down to the water/bar/restaurant/whatever you want! I could not recommend a better stay in Costa Rica and my now fiancé and I wish Joey all the best!
Casa Bamabora definitely lives up to the hype. We found it to be the ideal place to stay in Tamarindo. The views, location and hospitality were all top notch. Joey and Lauren were great hosts and graciously met all of our needs. They provided great tips on places to go and restaurants to try. The rooms were clean and spacious. It was a great place to come back to and relax after a day at the beach. As others have said, the pools and outside kitchen/bbq are fantastic as well as the views of the surrounding town and Pacific. I definitely recommend Casa Bambora and would consider it a mistake not staying here when coming to Tamarindo.
We've just returned home from a month long trip in Costa Rica. Casa Bambora was easily one of our favorite places! The location was ideal for us--a short walk from the beach and the busy strip. The room was very nice and the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed for cooking. Although we loved using the grill downstairs by the pool as well! The wrap around porch offers 360 degree views and the rooftop deck was breathtaking. Be sure to ask Joey for recommendations on everything from food to surf lessons (Rodney was GREAT!). Joey was a great host and we'd definitely stay here again!
One of the great things about Casa Bambora is it's location. Having bought the property in 1992 I was able to basically have the pick of the best lots in town. It's just far enough from the Tamarindo nightlife that you can get a peaceful night sleep unlike the rentals down in the town and just high enough where you can see right over the treetops and you get a great breeze and an amazing ocean and mountain view and still just a couple minutes walk to town and only 10 minutes walk to the beach.
