Colchester Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

The Camp at Barney Point…the perfect place for family vacations or multi-generational retreats! Outstanding 2,700 sf Lakefront “Adirondack Great Camp”, available seasonally, May to October. This Camp, or lake house, is an architectural “wow”, reflecting a careful, modern renovation while maintaining its historic, 1920s character.

The Camp is located at Barney Point on Colchester Point Road, Colchester, VT, on the broad portion of Lake Champlain, with spectacular views to south and west, lake breezes, and picture-perfect sunsets.

The property offers almost an acre of manicured lawns, stone walkways, and great landscaping, with two hundred feet of cliff-top lake frontage and panoramic views. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the huge, green, lawn (with pop-up sprinkler system) for dining, lounging, croquet, volleyball, ping pong, softball, tag or other games. Sit, read, and relax. Lay in a hammock. Sit back in a comfortable Adirondack chair at the cliff's edge and watch the fun of the season on the water in front of you. What you’ll notice about the Camp at Barney Point is that it offers plenty of space for family time, inside and out of doors.

Walk the 2-3 minute meandering path through the woods to the association beach—with amazing southerly views to the most expansive section of Lake Champlain—great for bonfires and gatherings. The lake access here offers clean, shallow water and a sandy bottom—great for kids.

Are you looking for an opportunity while on vacation to actually use the lake instead of just gazing at it?! This vacation destination includes numerous amenities that you'd typically find only at an all-inclusive summer resort. Use the Camp’s guest boat mooring, swim platform, rowboat, paddle board, floats, or 3 kayaks. Paddling along the shore to explore the bay, Law Island, and the tip of Colchester Point to the north - or the Winooski River and Burlington Bay to the south - are sure to delight guests of all ages.

Or walk, run or bike the Island Line Trail, a 5-mile scenic wonder, offering access points adjacent to The Camp. This continues north to South Hero, VT when the bike ferry is running, or south to Burlington, another 7.5 miles of scenic beauty! Wonderful Airport Park is just down the road, offering tennis, basketball, a historic schoolhouse (hours vary), and running trails - great for adults, kids and pets.

The Camp sleeps 14 - a king bed in the 2nd floor master with direct access to a master bathroom with soaking tub overlooking the lake; 2 twins in a 2nd floor bedroom; 4 twins and a double in the 3rd 2nd floor bedroom; a double in the 1st floor bedroom with direct access to the 1st floor bathroom; and 2 twins in the main living area that by day form a seating/lounging area for games and reading.

The Camp offers an amazing kitchen with dishwasher, pantry, gas range, fridge with freezer and ice maker, and utensils/dishes for the largest of gatherings, as well as Silestone bar/seating for 8 in a u-shape. A full W&D is offered on the 2nd floor. (All appliances were new for the 2013 season). The Camp has 2 bathrooms, each with shower. The main en-suite Master bath also has a vintage soaking tub overlooking the lake.

The main floor gathering areas offer ample seating for dining, conversation and games. There is a large, wooden dining table with seating for 10-12. In addition, there is 'living' seating for about 20 more. Views abound from every room, with the screened and outdoor porches and decks offering an extension of the gatherings inside. Recent additions include all new outdoor composite dining and Adirondack seating. Ample off-road parking is offered, as is a great deal of privacy. Warm up in front of the wood stove, framed by the Camp’s original brick chimney, on those cooler evenings.

The Camp at Barney Point offers more than just a place to stay; the list of 'inclusions' is a true differentiator:

*great mix of comfortable furnishings with American antiques sprinkled throughout

*600 thread count sheets on all beds

*linens and towels included

*starter packs of all vacation home essentials included

*space to park

*views and sunsets you can only dream about

*3 kayaks

*outdoor ping pong table

*huge manicured lawn, big enough for croquet, volleyball and other sports

*kid's swings

*ample outdoor seating for 20+

*2 gas grills

*washer & dryer

*gourmet kitchen

*guest boat mooring

*swim platform

*sandy beach

You and your family will return again and again to The Camp at Barney Point. It is truly unique and feels "miles away" this close to metropolitan Burlington, Vermont's largest city.

Why Burt Willey chose Colchester

Finding a great spot on Lake Champlain with outstanding views, luxury, parking, beach access, water crafts, a guest boat mooring, a private swim raft, a long list of included amenities (3 kayaks, paddle board, row boat, outdoor ping pong table, croquet, bikes, and so forth...) and room to play is key to any group or family getaway. Spacious Lake Front Property

  • 5 of 5

I was there in late October with a group of women friends. We found the house to be spacious and comfortable. Decor was very pleasant. Plenty of seating areas both inside and out. Large, fenced yard for safety of children. Can walk or ride bike out the door as close to bike path. Plenty of sightseeing in the area. Only 6 minutes by car to large supermarket. "Camp" is a term used in Maine for a cottage. This wonderful house is more than a cottage....

I am not sure how late in the year, the house is rented. The house is not insulated and can get cold in spite of using the wood stove and propane heater. We happened to have a couple of very rainy, windy days. Being New Englanders, we knew how to dress for this kind of cool weather so it was not a problem for us.

Amazing Rental!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I rented the Camp at Barney Point for the first 2 weeks of August this year.

We have rented many houses through VRBO and this is definitely one of the best. Not only is it all that it advertises to be, but the owner is also very easy to work with. He is reliable, prompt in his communication and invested in having his property be a great place to vacation. The house has great character and fun decor without feeling cluttered, there are more than ample places to hang out and chat and also have family dinners, the kitchen is well stocked with all the amenities you would need. We spent our days swimming at the beach, riding bikes, playing games on the lawn, going to the park, and just relaxing around the house. One of our family members brought their boat and we were able to moor it right off the shore of the beach on the guest mooring. Our evenings were spent roasting s'mores over the fire, nightly games of outdoor ping pong and watching the beautiful sunset. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who is looking for a fun, relaxing vacation for their family and/or friends.

Couldn't have been better!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this lovely camp for our son's graduation from Saint Michael's College. It was more than we had hoped for. The camp is large, airy and accommodated our group very nicely. We did not want to leave, and we are already talking about when we can do it again. No reservations about recommending this camp to anyone!

An 40th anniversary celebration with family!

  • 5 of 5

The Willey cottage at Barney Point was MORE THAN WE COULD EXPECT! Barney Point Camp cottage with all the amenities adoring. Nestled above breathtaking lake views. Games full of laughter and s'mores over nightly campfires. These are a few of our favorite things. Biking on the causeway and shopping on Church Street. Early morning dew and late afternoon sunsets. Waterfront picnics and double scoop cones at Ben & Jerry's. Oh paddle board and kayak adventures. Sandy shore castles with cocktail toppers. Home family cooking to meals on the town. These are a few of our favorite things. When the children laugh, when the wind blows, when the week ends...we simply remember our favorite things. We would love to spend time at the camp again & we would highly recommend it to others!

Great place for a reunion

  • 5 of 5

We booked the Camp for a reunion with our two children, their spouses. and four grandchildren. We had a total of 10 for most of the week and 11 one night.

The Camp was very comfortable for us. We cooked our meals in the fully equipped kitchen and used the two barbeques for several dinners.

The children, ages 2 to 9 really liked the toys and games, and the oldest one and some of the adults made good use of the bicycles. We played ping pong, swung on the swings and relaxed in the hammock. The kids liked blowing bubbles and runnign around on the spaciuos grounds. The Camp is on a bueutiful site overllooking the Lake and the mountains. It is a short walk to the causeway for fishing and biking.

The beach attached to the house is difficult for small children, as it is somewhat stony and had a lot of driftwood. However we discovered a public beach just a short drive away that was sandy and nice. Some of us biked there from the Camp.

The bedrooms were comfortable, except the mattresses in the room with twin beds were quite soft for our taste. We worked out the use of the two bathrooms efficiently, so no one was inconvenienced.

All in all we had a great vacation at the Camp at Barney Point.

Spectacular, Space, Sunshine, Siblings and Stars

  • 5 of 5

These five words took more meaning as our family celebrated an 85 th birthday of our Shelburne “grand relative” and the bringing together of seven first cousins and three Siblings from three different continents.

The Willey cottage at the Spectacular Barney Point provided the indoor and outdoor Space for our family gatherings. Most evenings, those staying on site and those staying nearby, gathered outside under the softening Sunshine for light refreshment, dinner and entertainment provided by the youngest generation.

Often one child on the side porch steps would be blowing bubbles. Another child or two would be drawing chalk pictures on the sidewalk. The outdoor ping pong table hosted an adult informal tournament. The swing, hammock and bench swing were always in motion. Ball throwing and croquet took place in another part of the yard. All this gleeful play could be viewed and heard by those sitting in the many lawn chairs provided.

These enchanting evenings were gently closed by a blazing bon fire set next to the child safe fence overlooking the lake and mountains. The sunshine often left a dazzling display on the horizon and water leaving us with the Stars and the moon to lull us to bedtime.

This is only a small portion of the possible peak experiences to be had at Barney Point. Please read the other reviews, check out the amenities listed and then take the plunge for an opportunity to refresh and strengthen family ties. This magical spot with its spectacular views, purposeful space, sunshine and stars has the potential to provide siblings and other family members with a lingering feeling of satisfaction. And that’s no Blarney !
