ALOHA AND WELCOME TO OUR PIECE OF PARADISE!
Hale Luana (House to relax and idle away the hours) is located 3 miles above Kailua Kona and overlooks Kailua Bay and Kailua town. Maka Nui Tui ('Tui' as we like to refer to it) is our 3+ acre property ideally located 1100 feet above sea level containing Hale Luana along with the owners main residence. Tui is private, quiet, convenient, and most relaxing. Surrounded by tropical plants, flowers, and fruit. The fruit is yours for the picking when available. You enter through iron gates and drive up the palm tree lined driveway passing the main house to find Hale Luana.
Hale Luana will be a perfect retreat from the daily sightseeing, beaching, shopping, and numerous other activities available on our wonderful island of Hawaii. Tropical breezes maintain a perfect temperature day and night. No need for air conditioning, but ceiling fans are in all rooms if you feel the need.
Now that you've completed your long trip to the islands, you can relax in your most comfortable, hawaiian decor Hale Luana. Sip on a glass of wine or tropical drink as you watch the sunset from your private lanai and also from the infinity pool. Marvel at the spectacular view of Kailua Bay and as the sun sets, delight in the stars above and twinkling lights of quaint Kailua town below.
Awake in the morning to the sounds of the local birds and rustling tropical leaves. Enjoy your first cup of Kona coffee on your lanai before embarking on the adventures before you. Whether it be sightseeing, swimming, snorkeling, shopping, golfing, or any of the many activities available, or just hanging at the pool. Hale Luana is so very convenient to everything to see or do on the big island. Most are within a 10 to 20 minute drive.
We've tried to prepare Hale Luana for you're pleasure and comfort. We are positive, your vacation here will be one of the most memorable you've experienced. Please contact us by email if you have any questions. We look forward to your visit.
Mahalo and Aloha,
Ray and Barb
Ray and I met in 1960 on Oahu, where he was a Marine stationed at Kaneohe MCAS and I was attending Kailua HS, as my father was also a Marine. We eventually married and moved to Virginia, where Ray is from originally. We always wanted to return to Hawaii and did, in 1985, and fell in love with Kona. Well, we bought a home, sold it in 2005 and built on Maka Nui Tui(loosely translated ('WAY TOO MUCH view'). Shortly after building our main house we completed Hale Luana. We wanted to share our happiness with as many folks as possible. What a wonderful place to live and sooo convenient to everything. We hope you can visit with us and realize the true feeling of living in paradise. Mahalo, Ray & Barb
Barb Poston purchased this house in 2008
The view and convenience to Kona.
View, pool, surroundings, comfortable, clean, hawaiian ambience, gourmet kitchen, and above all, the convenient access to activities.
This place is really excellent, perfect for two couples. The home was very clean, the beds super comfy and the kitchen was fantastic to cook in--very well equipped. We ate most meals out on the deck/lanai which had a wonderful view of the ocean. The home is located up on the hill so the views are fantastic and the location is convenient for exploring the area. We only used the pool once but it is really nice. We saw many beautiful birds in the yard--including a very large wild turkey! The gardener gave us loads of fresh fruit (papayas and bananas) from the garden. You will love staying at this place! Thanks Ray and Barb.
Heaven on a Hawaiian hill. You will need a car to drive down to town and explore all the island and busy activities, but this well appointed home is an excellent retreat from daily adventures. We did all we could each day until exhausted and found total comfort, peace and quiet each evening in Ray and Barb's lovely home, Hale Luana. They've created the most welcoming environment inside and outside on their very private, secure property. They delivered on every promise. We (two seniors) traveled with two adult kids and found the home's layout just right (2 bedrooms with 2 bathrooms separated.) Hale Luana was immaculate, simple to find and perfectly peaceful. If you want the kind of vacation you can control, this location is it. It does offer natural noise, light rustling breeze in the lush foilage, colorful chirpping birds and a couple of adorable night time chattering coqui frogs.
We are deeply thankful to Ray and Barb for providing an opportunity for us to spend 5 days at their gorgeous estate. We could not have imagined a better more satisfying experience. A beautiful very thoughtfully designed 2-bedroom home where every detail is thought of and of high quality. Surrounded by passion fruits, papayas, banana trees, vegetable garden and coffee plantation, feeling away from everything and yet within 5 minutes drive from town (20 min to the nearest beach). Infinity pool overlooking ocean. We ate all our morning and evening meals at the house because it just does not get any better.
Is there a way to perfect it even further? Being able to use the hot tub! (but were warned that it was not possible and just wished it was!:-))
We loved it and hope to be back again and again.
The Ohana is a perfect place for a Kona vacation. We love the stunning views and the convenience to town and the beaches. The Ohana has everything.. A well equipped kitchen, washer dryer and comfortable beds. The fresh fruit from the property is amazing!
My wife and 3 boys spent a relaxing week at this property. Everything was exactly as described. The house is only minutes from downtown, yet it feels a world away. You are within minutes of some of the best beaches in the world. I would highly recommend this property to anyone wanting to be close to Kona, yet not wanting to be tied to a big "resort" setting.
My family was amazed and delighted by Barb and Ray's corner of Heaven right from the start. Getting there was easy, and we were greeted warmly like old friends. Barb and Ray clearly enjoy the place and their guests and this shows in the care they take of both. The house and grounds look brand new and are extremely well maintained. The approach up the palm and Hibiscus lined drive is impressive, as is the large lawn and infinity pool. A surprising and wonderful gift basket of macadamia candy, Kona coffee, and fresh fruit was waiting for us inside. The guest house was immaculate and well appointed. The location is perfect; close enough to town to be convenient, but far enough to remain peaceful. One could spend hours wandering the lush gardens and neighborhood. Our only regret is being too busy running around to enjoy the place more. We absolutely loved the place and would highly recommend it to anyone.
