Guestbook comments from the owner

This cottage is beautifully maintained, clean and attractively furnished. There is a large lawn and meadow that leads down to a very large expanse of beach. The view from the porch looks over the lawn and water. The view from the master bedroom is of the water and a spectacular sunrise. You don't even have to get out of bed to see it The cottage is shining clean, with comfortable beds and a fire place in case it turns cool. While one can see the bridge that crosses from the main land to Bar Harbor island the traffic sounds did not disturb us. In fact, being close to the bridge meant that we had a very quick and easy ride to everything in Bar Harbor. We had a special treat/activity of going to Wild Iris Farm in Bar Harbor and learning how to drive a cart pulled by a Shire horse. (The kind seen in Downton Abbey.) If you don't want to drive a cart yourself, you can enjoy a ride in down town Bar Harbor in carriage pulled by horses from Wild Iris Farm. We had a wonderful time with lots of things, even when the rain came. The cottage was very cozy when the fog rolled in. This place is a must stay. One final thing. Sue is great. I left a number of things behind in the closet. She arranged to have her cleaning lady send the clothes off the very next day. I will definitely stay here when I come to Bar Harbor next.

Cozy Comfort

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent a week here in late August and fell in love with the Acadia area! This home has all the amenities, including a washer/dryer and was spotless. The kitchen was well-stocked and we enjoyed the privacy, yet convenience to Bar Harbor/Acadia. At night, the only sounds are the lapping of waves on the private beach. We even cooked fresh lobsters over the firepit down by the water. We intend on returning next summer and highly recommend this idyllic spot.

Location, Location, Location!!!

  • 5 of 5
We had a most wonderful 20th anniversary trip to this area. It was our first trip to Maine and this was the perfect spot for us. We could get to Bar Harbor, Acadia, the peninsula with ease and in a short time. We were going to go up into the mountains one day, but it was in the 90's inland, so we stayed near the water. The cabin is exactly as described and very clean.

Other reviewers have mentioned traffic noise. I wouldn't personally call it noise or a bother at all. We had perfect weather, so slept with the windows open. Sure, you can hear traffic crossing the bridge (that you see in the photo), but we didn't find it annoying at all. If you would prefer to be out in the middle of nowhere, this is not for you. We had complete privacy and thought it was very nice and quiet. The stars at night were like nothing I've seen in many years.

We went on the whale watching tour and lighthouse tour. Great fun! We spent one day in the Acadia National Park, stood in line at the Jordan Pond House - I ate two popovers by myself! Like nothing I've ever had and it's a good thing I can't have those all the time! They were fabulous! Even if the line looks long, that place is a machine and they do a great job of getting people seated and fed.

Sue and Gordon gave us some great tips on where to eat and what to do. I hope we get a chance to go back!

Beautiful WATERFONT Location/Property!

  • 4 of 5
Location! Location! Location! Gorgeous WATERFRONT VIEWS! Huge yard/property. Very private. Lots of WATERFRONT BEACH to play on/with. Kayak in cove, clamming, fishing, bird watching, etc...

Close to everything!- Acadia Park-Hulls Cove entrance, Bar Harbor, great shopping, restaurants (I'm a HUGE foodie), antiquing, galleries & supplies, great lobster pound you can walk/bike to! around the corner!, FIRE PIT (AWESOME!), see the milky way, watch fog rolling over Cadillac mountain in distance, sunrises (night owl, myself, maybe black out curtains? I'm just sayin') and on and on...

Owners very responsive to requests/questions and quick to resolve any issues. Also very nice to deal with. :)

My must do list:
1. Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound, owners super nice! They also have beer & wine! Their Lobster Sandwich beats a roll any day! Great bread!
2. Able's Lobster Pound on way to Northeast Harbor-LOCALS!!!
3. Shaw Contemporary Jewelry Gallery, Northeast Harbor-Wow!
4. A Little Mad Gallery, Bar Harbor-Really fun!
5. Havana Restaurant, Great hip food. Awesome fresh oysters.
6. Jordan's-Wild Blueberry Pancakes, Bar Harbor-everyone goes there for a reason!
7. Side Street Cafe, Bar Harbor-worth the price, hip, cool vibe. Lobstah Chowdah a must!!-only huge chunks of lobster, butter, sherry and cream.
8. A & B naturals for Gluten free/organic stuff, conveniently located across from Hannaford in Bar Harbor.
9. Last, but certainly not least, Jordon Pond House in Acadia Park. Yes, it's tourist trap but those darn popovers are really worth it- so is the view!!!

Accurate amenities, only caveat...I'm a real neat freak! Sorry! Washer/Dryer in cellar-lifesaver!
Sooo, 4 stars because place is a bit cluttered BUT it is a home for them also, so please take that into consideration. Great for couples, small families, romantic getaways, great for loner like me who was there for 2 weeks, hard for larger groups maybe.

Other than that a wonderful, peaceful, beautiful place to stay and I loved the collection of antique teacups for morning tea on the great porch overlooking the water...Ahhh...cant wait to get back!
Thank you for sharing your home with me! Hope to bring the family next time as was originally planned. Happy Travels! Lynn

Perfect Cottage on the Water

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I choose this cottage after an exhaustive search for the perfect place to celebrate our marriage. We were not disappointed in any way. Upon our arrival we knew we made the right decision. The cottage was very inviting and cozy. The location was perfect for us since we like to be off the beaten path, but not too far to enjoy the local amenities. It is located about 10 to 15 minutes from many of the local attractions which include Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It was a perfect base camp to explore the area.

We enjoyed the fire pit on the coast line several evenings during our stay. One of the highlights was steaming lobster over an open fire next to the water. It was a great place to retire during the evening after exploring the many attractions in the area. We hope to return in the future. Thank you Sue and Gordon for sharing your cottage with us.

Outstanding location and immaculate home

  • 5 of 5
My family regularly rents houses when we travel because we like having all of the comforts of home. Therefore, we have seen a number of rental homes over the years. This was, by far, the best property we have ever rented! I'm pretty picky, and often feel slightly disappointed when I enter a rental property for the first time. Typically, the place is less clean than I like or just awkward feeling. Although I end up feeling comfortable, it typically takes a few days. In the beginning, I usually get a little grossed out sitting on the furniture or using the dishes. However, this was not the experience I had at all with this rental property. The house was immaculate when we arrived and Sue and Gordon had added so many personal touches. I immediately felt comfortable in their home and was so happy with the choice we had made. We spent weeks narrowing down rental properties when we planned this trip, and I am confident we made the right choice. This house was perfect for our family of four (2 adults, 9 yr old, 4 yr old). It had everything we needed for our week stay. The location is ideal. It's secluded and private, but also close to everything you need. It's centrally located between Bar Harbor and Ellsworth. The view from the front porch is amazing, as is the view from the master bedroom windows (we saw the sun rise every morning from our bed). The kids loved exploring along the rocky beach and spent hours looking for rocks, shells and crabs. Quite honestly, there is nothing negative that I can say about this property. I highly recommend renting it. You won't be disappointed!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review we are so pleased you all had such a great time it really is a beautiful spot.
Our Sons loved going there when they were growing up and still do only now with their families. We always loved the privacy of being on a peninsular and a dead end road.
Thank you again and we both hope you will return one day you were great tenants.

As Advertised; Very Nice Place

  • 4 of 5
This house is as advertised. It was clean, cozy, right on the water, and afforded nice views of the bay and mountains in the distance. The beds were exceptionally comfy and the owners also left us a very nice gift basket upon our arrival. There is a big, grassy lawn, so if you have kids that like to run around a bit, that's a plus. That openness also allows for a great view of the sunrise right from the bedrooms, and it enhances the nighttime stargazing opportunities--which you can view after using the nice fire pit. Our kids--ages 9 and 6--also enjoyed walking along the beach to sample the crabs and other sea life brought in by the tide. It's pretty conveniently located as well: it's about 15 minutes to the Acadia Park entrance and to the town of Bar Harbor. The owner is also very prompt and helpful in responding to email questions.

As other reviewers have noted, and as you can see in the images for the house, a main highway (Highway 3, the main--only?--connector from the mainland to Mt. Desert Island) is fairly close to the house, and this is the one slight drawback to the location. But it is a relatively slight drawback; we agree with the owners' comments that the volume of the traffic does seem to vary somewhat, depending on which way the wind is blowing. Many times, you can't hear it much at all. Perhaps it drops the star rating on this review from a 5 to a 4.5--a small drop. (Indeed, we would probably give it 4.5 stars rather than 4, but these reviews don't allow the half-point option.)

Again, overall, this is a nice house and was, for us, a great base from which to explore Acadia, which we had a great time doing.

LL Bean has a local free bus hop on hop off that you can take from a few places not too far away. They allow you to take your bikes as well and they drop you off in the park. You can Kayak or canoe right from our beach and there are several rental companies that deliver right to the house. We can sit on our porch and on a coming tide quite often see seals swimming up into the bay.
