The Moores have spent all of their lives in Alabama and enjoy accommodating vacationers into the Gulf Shores / Fort Morgan area along with Lake Martin. We've been accommodating vacationers now for over 20 years. We own our rental homes so we take care of them and our guests the way they should be. It's all about 'The Golden Rule' you know! We don't allow any management agencies and/or companies to rent out or manage our properties. We do all of this ourselves. This allows us to keep our rates low and to customize and deliver our personal touch to each and every guest!
The Owner purchased this house in 1999
GOLF-GOLF-GOLF!! There must be at least 15 golf courses within 30 minutes away and two are within 10 minutes away! The World Famous Kiva Dunes Golf Course (Voted #1 course in Alabama and Jerry Pate developed) is only ONE MILE away! You gotta play Kiva Dunes!
BIRD LOVERS: The Alabama Birding Coastal Trail has a stop in Fort Morgan.
CIVIL WAR and HISTORY BUFFS: The Mobile Bay Civil War Trail. Fort Morgan State Park. 'Damn the torpedoes. Full speed ahead!' You can almost hear the command of Admiral David Farragut as he led his troops into the battle of Mobile Bay. Today Fort Morgan is a testament to the evolution of American coast defense fortifications from 1834 to World War II. It's a history lesson waiting to be explored. Some regard it as 'one of the finest examples of military architecture in the New World'. Fort Morgan was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960. In 2007 it was listed as 'one of the nation's 10 most endangered battle sites' by the Civil War Preservation Trust in History Under Siege: A Guide to America's Most Endangered Civil War Battlefields. Just 6 miles away! Then take the Mobile Bay Ferry over to see anther Civil War site, Fort Gaines. We think that this part of the Gulf of Mexico is 'the last frontier' in that it has not been commercialized like Panama City, Destin, Pensacola, and even Orange Beach and Gulf Shores to an extent. You really feel like you are on your own private peninsula here! As one member of my family stated when we purchased our first property here, 'Let's move here!'.
Mobile Bay Ferry takes you over to Dauphin Island where you can then visit Fort Gaines, USS Alabama, and all of Mobile, AL. Biloxi, MS (Las Vegas of the South!) is just east of Mobile via I-10. Covered picnic table area under the house along with beach rinse-off shower area. Fort Morgan Museum and Civil War History just a few miles down the peninsula. Very private and family oriented beach community. Perfect environment for stargazers in that there are no city lights around. You can see stars for days! This is one of my personal reasons why I love this location! Fort Morgan Marina is five minutes away and has daily deep sea fishing charters. Come and watch the fleet unload their catch. Tacky Jacks is there too. Great food!
We have been here two days now and I just HAD to write an early review. First, when you rent this house, you will deal with the man who owns it, Derrick. The house is the best deal out here. There are houses surrounding this one that are not as nice; that are rentals through the various rental management companies and cost double the price. The house is extremely clean and cold and comfortable. We brought our dogs and the house is a perfect accomodation for your pets! I would recommend if you don't like the short walk to the beach, to bring a golf cart. Definately bring a wagon to carry your beach chairs and umbrellas etc..
What I really love is that the house is just far enough from the sand that it is private, but close enough to get there with minimal effort. The ice cream truck comes by twice per day for the kids. We have had the air conditioner on 70 and it is chilly cool inside. The back balcony is so nice and the chairs are very comfortable. We have eaten several meals out there, and it is shady and breezy and nice. Bring mosquito repellant or a citronella candle because the mosquitoes are abundant and mammoth sized. There is a bog next door, which is kinda cool because there are some really pretty lillypads and other water plants that are nice to look at.
We leave our beach set-up overnight. We tie the chairs all together and so far they have not been tampered with. The beach out here is less crowded!! We love Ft. morgan for this reason!!
There is an outdoor shower below the house and a table/chairs. There is also enough space to park two large vehicles underneath. There are several vacant lots in front of this house, and we LOVE that (more privacy).
We are very happy with this house!!
FROM THE DANIELS AND THE CRAWLEY FAMILIES WE THANK YOU!!!
We had very nice Easter staying at the Seahorse. It was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well stocked with the cookware and dishes we needed for our meals. It was an easy walk to the beach and a quiet, peaceful community. Derrik, the owner, was also easy to get in touch with when we had any questions.
We stayed at Seahorse house in Gulf Shores, AL out Fort Morgan Road on Surfside Avenue. We really loved the house and it was very clean and tidy when we arrived. Derrick has done several improvements to the house, such as replanking the back deck. We found that the house is quite nicely supplied with virtually every kitchen utensil you can imagine, so we never needed to buy anything. You might remember to take matches or a lighter to ignite your charcoal if you use the grill. We took boogie boards and kites to the beach and had a blast! The beach is only a 5 minute walk or a 30 second drive. The white sand beaches were very clean and the beach is fairly private even during Spring Break. There were not that many people, so that made it nice to relax and enjoy the waves and sunrises/sunsets.We had 3 generations in one house, and it was fine, except that the steps were difficult for the grandparents. Derrick is very friendly and easy to work with. He bends over backward to help and is very accommodating. If we had questions or problems, he was available almost immediately to answer. We will stay there again if we are back in Gulf Shores.
My husband and I are snowbirds and we rented this house for the second year in row for 2 months. We love this house. It had everything we needed for a 2 month stay. It is also very clean and comfortable. This year the microwave went out and the owner worked with us to get a new one by the next day. I have always found the owner to be very responsive to any questions we had. He is just a text away! I would highly recommend this rental.
My family rented the Seahorse for Thanksgiving week. Derrik was absolutely wonderful to work with- we travel to the Gulf Shores and Destin areas pretty often, so we know the difference in engaged and aloof renters. He was prompt, helpful, and extremely accommodating. We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood and short walk to the beautiful and peaceful beach. The house was roomy, lots of closet and storage space for a long stay. We also enjoyed the back and side deck, and spent several evenings outside talking and star gazing. I think, perhaps, what I loved most about this unique property was that while it was a fantastic beach house, it also had the feel of a cabin because of the seclusion (which was perfect for our fall holiday stay). Thanks for everything, Derrik, we will definitely be back!
Crabbing and shrimping on the beach. Watch the catch unload daily at the marina. Stargazing. You can see stars like you have never seen before at night. This is because there are no city lights in sight! Beautiful warm Fort Morgan nights are the absolute best!
