After traveling to Mexico several times in the 1990's, and always appreciating the climate and friendly people of Todos Santos, we decided to purchase oceanfront property in 1999. At that time, there were no other homes in the Las Tunas area. Of course, now there is an entire community of fellow Americanos. We started building in late 2007, and were able to complete and move in August 2008. We enjoy our neighbors, the lovely town of Todos Santos, and the cool tradewinds constantly blowing in off the Pacific. Of course, as you can see, we also enjoy the fishing up around the LaPaz area.

The house was just as represented in pictures/description. Definitely a place to relax. We watched the whales everyday, and went several times to see baby sea turtles released, right by the casa.
We cooked in a lot as the kitchen was well equipped. I would suggest shopping the Mega, over Costco, unless you are a large group.
Several visits to Cerritos Beach for surfing and lunch was just a short drive from Todos Santos. A drive to La Paz was not worth it for us; however, the Malecon on the bay was lovely, and for $35/person, you can see whale sharks and walruses from a small boat.
We got fresh fruit daily at the corner stand, and the Mercado II, on the way into town, was very convenient.
Todos Santos has plenty of quaint shops and restaurants. But get ready to be laid back! The house is large and comfortable, and the WiFi and cable were great. Beach towels, chairs and umbrella were all a bonus.
we have spent many vacations with our kids and their partner(s) at many different places, but we all agreed that your home at it's location was the best for us. secluded (no real neighbors--in fact, we saw more whales than people at the beach!), so homey, so spacious, so inviting, with a great outside patio (with a grill that helped prepare a great dinner one night), the soothing sounds of the continuous ocean waves, an envious kitchen, a beautiful beach, and with a nearby town that was comfortable, accessible and homey.
additionally, your caretaker who picked us up in town was very helpful in getting us acclimated and making recommendations. we ate at café santa fe and la casita, both delicious, and the latter's husband and wife owners were as welcoming and friendly as their food and sangria was tasty.
thanks so much for allowing us to share your home over this long weekend (we all felt it was too short, but paid time off is limited for these young workers).
We just got back home after a WONDERFUL stay in Las Olas. The house is just lovely -- everything is high quality, really beautiful. It was perfect for the 8 of us (my husband and I and our three young kids all stayed in the master -- the kids wanted to be in the same room as us, and there was *plenty* of space; my in-laws stayed in bedroom 2; and my brother-in-law stayed in bedroom 3). All the basic necessities are provided, including tons of towels (regular and beach), laundry supplies, and bedding.
The big boys played pool every day and the kids played *in* the pool every day. We spotted tons of whales from both the upstairs balcony and the patio. We grilled fish that the guys caught (they charted a panga [boat] from Punta Lobos), and my husband actually caught another one from the beach right in front of the house one morning. We walked to the sea turtle rescue just up the beach from the house, and watched the baby turtles flip-flopping down to the surf -- the kids LOVED this. I did lots of sitting in the sun and reading, sitting by the pool and reading, sitting at the beach and reading, sitting in the hammock and reading... perfection.
The weather was gorgeous, despite a forecast of 4 days of rain. The sunrises and sunsets were amazing, and the ocean is breathtaking -- you can hear the waves booming from the house. The beach is practically empty. We did a day trip to Cerritos Beach, a hike from Punta Lobos, and short excursions into Todos Santos. Carolina, the caretaker, was fantastic -- she gave us lots of great information and directions (definitely go to Chileno Bay by San Jose del Cabo!!!!), and she was super friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time and we all wished we could have stayed twice as long!
My family just left this magnificent place yesterday - it was an amazing time. My husband and our 2 sons and their families spent a week here to celebrate our 40th anniversary. It was perfect! The home was lovely! The setting and the sunsets were spectacular! So quiet and so secluded - a perfect spot to get away! Although the photos are lovely - they just cannot do justice to what it really looks like! Everything you need or want was readily available. The property was well maintained and so lovely! The garden, the pool, the back patio for dining - all were amazing! Todos Santos was a charming area - lots of great places to eat (Tequila Sunrise was especially nice!) The ocean is right out the back door and walks along the shore were lovely! And the sounds of the waves during the night certainly lulled us to sleep. The pool was a must for our 2 young grandchildren. The water temperature was perfect! Avi and Des were so helpful and generous with their time and knowledge of the area. I would highly recommend this lovely home and hope to return again soon!
We enjoyed ourselves at this wonderful home located right on the beach just 5 minutes from Todos Santos. Frankly, there was only one drawback, the pool was never warm enough to lounge and swim as we hoped --- even though we paid to have it heated---no explanation for that really. Actually, I would say one more thing, the hot water for showers and such was also somewhat tepid.
As for the house, wow! Hard to imagine a better one, with more room than you could possibly imagine. We didn't expect we would use the pool table but actually did and it was really fun. The kitchen was spacious and we cooked most of our meals, going into town only a couple of times. Another huge plus for us being from Seattle was to be able to watch the Seahawks beat the Broncos in the super bowl---they had a very large satellite TV.
I would have to assume they will work out the water heating issues. In spite of that, one should not get the idea that this house is anything but spectacular! We had a great time!
If you are looking for the glitzy night life of Cabo and throngs of tourists, don't come here. However, if you find comfort in a small lovely town with more great places to eat than you could imagine, and friendly people who make you feel welcome, this could be the place for you. And that's all before you get to the villa.
We have rented a dozen of so villas in Mexico and the Carribean and Casa de las Olas is one of our favorites. The main things we look for are location and comfort. The location here couldn't be more perfect, both the quiet and being on the beach are theraputic. The other thing which is important to us is that there is an effortless joining of the indoors with the outside. The ocean breeze just brings it all together.
The other thing which is important to me is how well the kitchen is set up. I love to cook and felt very comfortable there. The only thing I really missed was having a gas grill. I'm really not good with charcoal, due to lack of experience.
The house is beautiful and comfortable and in lovely surroundings. I will not hesitate to return as soon as time allows. Thank you Shirl and Jim.
This is our second year and are already planning our third. It has Location, if you like isolated, beautiful, beachfront. It is so very comfortable. The furnishings are too nice for a vacation rental: you feel very indulged! The whales put on a daily show for us. The kitchen is more than adaquate speaking as a house full of "foodies". Loved the roof of Hotel Totos and the happy hour special at Shut Up Franks. Mostly we loved being at the house watching the sunrises and sunsets enjoying comfortable times with friends!
