Location:
Indian Rocks Beach, FL is located at the lower tip of the Pinellas peninsula just a few minutes south of Clearwater Beach. It is easily accessible from Tampa, St. Petersburg or the southern gulf coast of Florida and was originally a get-away location for Tampa residents.
Indian Rocks Beach is a small and rather quiet stretch of the beach with just 4200 permanent residents. Building codes limit the height of construction to just four floors so the 2.7 miles of beaches are typically uncrowded, even during the high season. It's a great, relaxing place for young or old. There are plenty of really good restaurants in the area, most offer outdoor cafe seating as well as indoor dining.
Events:
Indian Rocks Beach Arts and Crafts Festival, typically held in November, is an art show where many local artists showcase their works. In April, the local 'Beauty and the Beach' festival offers live music, good food and a delightful opportunity to wander around under the trees in Kolb Park looking at the arts and crafts on display. Ten minutes north, there is a nightly (around sunset) craft and street performance event - very laid-back and enjoyable for adults and kids - there is usually live music on the weekends. On Sunday nights at sunset, there is a drumming festival on a nearby beach about 15 minutes south.
Making It Easy:
Nearby, there are several large grocery stores and major chains like Walmart and Target. There is a CVS pharmacy within walking distance so getting your prescriptions filled and last minute items purchased without wasting a lot of your precious vacation time is easy. Prices in the area are reasonable so you can enjoy the experience without worrying about your budget. The assigned, covered parking and building elevator makes arrival and departure a breeze!
