|Minimum Stay||30 nights|
Located on a high bluff overlooking the St. Johns River with unimpeded views of the Ocala National Forest, our first floor 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo is ideally suited for your winter in Florida. Less than 2 years old, used by a couple on weekends only, it’s homey and newly furnished, with two sitting areas, large flat screen TV, land line phone and DSL for internet. We have one of the best views in the complex from our living room.
The master bedroom has a king bed, bathroom with walk-in shower. The second bedroom has a queen bed with full bath right outside. There is a pull out couch in the living room as well. The dining room table seats 8. The unit is handicap friendly- first floor, park near front door, 3 ft. doorways, walk in shower, and new sidewalks traverse the complex. There are rarely more than 20 occupied units (out of 78 total) on the weekends- weekdays you have the complex nearly to yourself - peace and quiet!
The pool area is in a sunny spot with large oak trees, has community grills and a nice bar with stools, sink and mini fridge, and fantastic views. Down the stairs to the river the outside, easy access boat slip has cleats, bumpers, power and lights, with a public ramp less than a half a mile away. Welaka is “The Bass Capital” and if you fish or boat- you will love the river- and have it nearly to yourself!
For a town of 600 or so residents Welaka has a lot to offer, including a doctor, pharmacy, Post Office, beauty salons and a couple of good restaurants- and only one stop light. A newly renovated Winn Dixie grocery store is about 20 minutes away in Crescent City. There are some nice drives in the area- whether you bike or motorcycle.
You have 2 parking spaces, if your boat, trailer etc. fits within the space you can leave it there. There is very reasonable parking available for larger vehicles etc. right next to the property.

I enjoy fishing on the St. Johns River in Welaka - the trees behind my picture are typical of the miles of undeveloped banks that are part of the Ocala National Forest. Not in the picture is my wife - back at the pool doing crossword puzzles.
Cathi Oakes purchased this condo in 2007
We love the little town of Welaka (pop. 600) because of its 'Old Florida' feel. It's an hour from our house in St. Augustine, so we manage to spend most weekends at Sportman's Lodge. Welaka is a one stop-light town but it has churches, a bar, a couple of good restaurants and even a really cool wooden boat museum. During the week there is a full service pharmacy, a good medical clinic, and post office right in town. Crescent City a pretty 20 minute drive away has a recently upgraded Winn-Dixie grocery store.
The St. Johns River is beautiful here with good fishing opportunities, or just enjoy your own 'eco tour'. The view from our unit is of the river and the Ocala National Forest - no signs of civilization! We're near the Oklawaha river where we've seen eagles, ospreys and plenty of alligators. Our first floor unit feels more homey because of easy access to both the car and the grounds of the property.
