This beautifully appointed home offers five bedrooms, four baths and was professionally restored and expanded in 2006. The fifth bedroom was converted to a media room and makes a king size bed perfect for the kids when needed. Located on a quiet street in the historic Sunmor neighborhood, the main house is an exquisite Alexander mid-century home built in 1958 with breath taking views of the San Jacinto Mountains and surrounding valley. The original Alexander, being 1300 square feet was expanded to over 2,600 square feet maintaining the original post and beam, floor to ceiling glass, and character of the Alexander 'Chalet' home. The expansion and restoration of the house was done with green and recycled materials. In keeping with Alexander’s vision, meticulous consideration was taken in the design and building efficiency.
This home is centrally located with an easy 15-minute walk to downtown Palm Springs where you will find numerous restaurants, shops, and entertainment.
The home was inspired by the owners’ many years of travel and the love of Palm Springs architecture and lifestyle. The owner and designer is influenced by Southeast Asia. He chose to carry a Zen-like quality throughout the home. The grounds are exquisite with such attention to detail, that 44,000 pounds of rock were brought in from Bali, Indonesia. Being within the compound transcends you from everyday life to complete relaxation and rejuvenation.
Guests appreciate the attention to detail and comfortability whether inside or out at this Palm Springs compound. Lush fichus shrubbery provides complete privacy. Magnificent palms surround you while soaking in the hot tub. Beautiful mountain views produce a “resort” feel while staying at the “Livmor” home. The interior areas and grounds come alive at night with dramatic landscape lighting; the focal point being a 2,500 pound Buddha hand carved from Java stone. A beautiful star-filled sky without a street light in sight; you and your loved ones are sure to enjoy a perfect evening building lifetime memories at this classic compound in Palm Springs.

I have been designing and building residential homes for 20 years. It is a passion for me. I love the element of surprise and understatement in a home. I make sure every property I have done contains those two elements along with loads of emotion. Everyone should feel something after leaving a great property.
The Owner purchased this house in 2004
I love the location and the traditional Alexander mid-century neighborhood. Sunmor neighborhood is quiet and well preserved. Its history relating to Palm Springs is quite amazing.
When staying at the Livmor house you will find a peaceful tranquility. Relaxation is the key at this home. Many of the art objects on the property come from the far east. Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand are but some of the countries art and working components of the home originate from. In fact, over 44,000 pounds of rock were brought in from Bali for this unique compound!
We stayed here two years ago for Modernism Week and gave it an excellent review. Matt likes to meet you at the house and show you how things work. This time we got to tell him how much we liked each improvement as we toured the property. He keeps updating details to make the home nicer. For example, he installed a beautiful bench around one corner of the pool so you have a place to put your towel or to sit when you are having a snack. Then we noticed the cabana doors had been refinished to relate to the wood in the bench! The seating in the living room was reupholstered too. We had a few guests drop by who said they liked the house as much as anything they saw on the Modernism Week home tours! While it is very modern, the home is not sterile. There are several wood pieces and good wall colors. The lighting at night is magical. As I mentioned last time, there are pieces of art and some fragile items so if you have any kids be sure they are well behaved! While the house seems expensive it is not unreasonable if you are splitting it among four or five couples. Matt is also a very responsive host. This house is a ten, but they only let you give it five stars!
My wife and I wanted to do something special for her 50th birthday. We live in LA and have always enjoyed Palm Springs. We have two other couples we do things with and are always trying to top one another. We wanted something really spectacular, memorable, and relaxing for the long weekend with our closest friends.
I set out to find the perfect Palm Springs retreat and found it on VRBO. I wanted to “top” anything we had all ever done together before. The only problem was, the home was also at the “top” of our budget. After speaking with Matt, the owner, we instantly knew the home he created would be that special place we were looking for. We decided to book the property.
Upon arrival, Matt graciously showed us the home and how everything works. The finishes and cleanliness of the home were top notch and even better than expected. As we walked through the home we all realized each of us had spectacular views from our own suites. We all had refrigerators, coffee makers, and everything we would want for some quiet time alone too. My wife and I were pleased that none of our friends would feel short changed. Everyone was clearly excited the home was even more spectacular in person than in the pictures.
We decided to heat the pool and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor cooking space. We actually had lots of expensive plans, but once we set in, we noticed everything we needed was right here. So, the “top” of our budget transformed to a savings as we all felt no need to leave the Livmor compound!
My wife’s birthday afternoon came around. We swam and relaxed while sitting around the pool. We enjoyed the view from the hot tub which is hardly describable. Post-card perfect! The night was magic-filled with memories our best friends will never forget.
I would recommend this home to anyone looking on VRBO, even if it is at the top of or just beyond your price range. When I reflect back on the decision, I couldn’t put a price on the good times we all had at Livmor. A nice hotel in Palm Springs would have cost more, been less comfortable, much less interesting and not even close to as enjoyable.
To think I almost passed on this home because it was at the top of my budget, I laugh and think about how my wife’s 50th Birthday was priceless. I want to recommend to others that may be thinking the same as I was, to go for it! You will make lifetime of memories at this property. No question we will be coming back to this perfect “5 star” Palm Springs home.
This was the perfect home for our family vacation. We had 7 adults and 2 young kids (1 yr old and 2 yr old). Each couple loved having their own "suite". The West suite and East suite were perfect for the 2 couples without kids, allowing them to have their privacy and quiet time. My husband and I took the master and put our 2 kids in the other bedroom in the main house where we had 2 cribs (rented from Baby's Away). Matt the owner was kind enough to get their early the day we checked-in so that Baby's Away could setup the cribs and have everything ready for the kids' mid-day nap when we arrived. He even removed the bed in the bedroom so that we can comfortably fit 2 cribs in there. We had another adult sleep in the TV room (5th bedroom) which you can easily convert into a full size bed by pushing the large ottoman against the sofa. Everyone commented on how "child friendly" this place was. Lots of furniture with soft rounded edges. Of course the pool is not gated and there is cacti around the house, but my kids were supervised the entire time and we did not have any issues. We loved the decor, very modern and zen-like, and the rooster was a nice whimsical touch. My son named him "Sunny Shine". We enjoyed many wonderful dinners on the outside dining table, grilling in the breezeway, lounging in the pool, and relaxing in the hot tub. The house made such a perfect backdrop for our family vacation that we all agreed that this was the start of a new family tradition. We will be back!
Truly one of the best properties we have ever visited in Palm Springs! Everything we needed in this home away from home was at out fingertips. Plenty of room for all to enjoy their own space! The pics are great, but the second you walk in is when you truly appreciate the serenity and peace that Matt has created in this house. This house is a MUST stay if you plan on visiting Palm Springs and we can't thank you enough Matt for being so accommodating and welcoming us into your beautiful home. I will certainly return and recommend Livmor to others!
A group of us stayed here during Modernism Week. Matt, the owner, was very hospitable and professional when he met us at the house to show us how everything worked. He also wanted to hear what improvements we might suggest when we checked out.
The house, located in the Sunmor neighborhood, is even better than the photographs. Matt has improved on the original Alexander house by extending the master bedroom and building two casitas on the rear of the property. While the kitchen has been updated be aware it is small (as the original kitchens in these houses were). But it opens to the living room for easy conversation with the guests. It is well equipped and organized.
The pool was a perfect temperature. The hot tub has an energy saving device and takes a few minutes to heat up but it gets toasty very quickly. It also has the best view on the property. I spent a great deal of time there reading. We had all sorts of plans for venturing out but spent most the time by the pool just hanging out with friends.
The BBQ is located in a breezeway between the two casitas in what is basically an outdoor kitchen with fridge, sink and even dishwasher. Excellent for entertaining. We had a few friends over (be sure and ask permission first and don't exceed the number permitted by City of Palm Springs ordinance!) and everybody agreed we had the best house they had seen. There is a long dining table outside. Nighttime lighting and art are especially well done. We loved the quirky chicken sculpture (rescued from a failing restaurant, according to Matt.)
There are also several handsome and fragile art pieces so the house so it may not be the place for wild kids!
We had two small children in our group, but they were well behaved and trained to not go in the pool without an adult and they followed directions. But note there is no extra fence around the pool or jacuzzi. So, kids do have to be watched carefully.
We will definitely rent here again and recommend it to anybody who wants five bedrooms in a modern house!
Nothing but glowing remarks for this Palm Springs property.
The property owner was very polite and helpful with initial introductions, explanations and final walk-through. I was looking for a larger house to accommodate my visiting family from Australia and this house worked out wonderfully. Not only are the appointments extremely tasteful but everything worked as it was supposed to.
What was particularly useful for me was the two suites separated from the main house, a perfect setup for couples (my parents) seeking privacy or families looking to put a snorer (my brother) away from the main house!!
The location was fine for us, there is a fresh and easy half a mile away which we found useful as we definitely took advantage of the outdoor cooking area.
A treat of a retreat!!
