This incredible location was chosen by the subdivision owner as his personal residence when initially developed. This East facing (sunrise side) oceanfront home is located on a double lot adjacent to 200 acres of lush, unpopulated state land. A great living room of 1200 square feet, 18 foot tall ceiling and several sofa groups is a wonderful gathering place. A short walk down a secret path, next to the house, takes you to the oceans edge where you can walk for miles on a lava shelf. There are pockets of black sand and tide pools on the shelf.
The home is owned by two couples Steen and Hanne, and Bob and Kathy.Steen and Hanne were both born and raised in Denmark and have lived all over the world. Both couples live in rural Oregon where they enjoy sailing, gardening, their kids and grandkids, and the University of Oregon Ducks!
Kathy purchased this house in 2009
We have family on the Big Island.
Our house is very private, with a great view of the ocean splashing on the shore. Whales passing just off shore and pods of dolphins to swim with at the black sand beach within a 5 minutes walk. The sunrises get better and better each morning. And the stars at night are so bight you feel as if you can grab them.
This was a vacation I will never forget. The setting, the house itself, the lovely community resonated with every member of our family of 4. My teen and tween stared in awe at the ocean like they never looked at a smart phone. We all found the rhythm of the crashing surf to be the perfect tempo for relaxation and reconnection. The view is fabulous. The house is comfortable, inspiring, simple yet well-appointed. There are little surprises to discover every day This is a place to renew, to celebrate, to reflect. I hope to go back there someday!
I was blessed with the opportunity to stay at this wonderful home in January for a girls retreat. I did not want to leave, not even to see the sights. I was so comfortable and relaxed able to unwind with my first “me” time away and my kids are adults. The view is spectacular; sunrises that are breathtaking and the stars light up the sky at night!! I will be back to enjoy this wonderful place!!
We were amazed just walking into the home. Loved the sounds and views of the ocean. The lush landscaping is also beautiful. It was a perfect setting for a bridal brunch that we hosted. The kitchen is well stocked, and I was happy to discover yoga mats in a closet. Really helps having internet access since there is no cell phone service.
Would love to come back!
I was happy that I had visited this area before because I did not feel compelled to do tourist activities.
Hanging out in this beautiful home was my idea of a good vacation.
Absolutely awesome property and never ending views. Home was warm and inviting. Kitchen well equipped and rest of home is just divine. Choose your spot to drink coffee, inside or outside. Wake up to beautiful sunrises either in the queen size bed or on the lanai. Read a book on one of the many couches or in the lounge outside. Enjoy a restful evening in the great room just relaxing, star gazing listening to the coqui frogs. Take a walk in the beautiful neighborhood or on the lava ledge for as far as you wish. Enjoy the beautiful peaceful yard or walk to the black sand beach. After a day of hiking, swimming or sightseeing come back to a wonderful walk in tile shower with rain head that is so relaxing. Get away from it all in Paradise and go home refreshed and renewed. Reconnect with your inner self and with your loved one(s).....this home is just to wonderful to describe and give it justice. The owners are fabulous as is the caretaker.....we will return in two years!
All we can say is, Wow! When we first entered the house I felt like running around like a little kid getting out of a car after a long road trip. This home was absolutely perfect. The ocean views during the day were phenomenal and the stargazing at night was breathtaking. We will definitely be back.
This is our second stay at this fabulous vacation house. Many mornings sharing the sunrise and whale watching from the ocean view porch with old and new friends. Evening night skies full of stars, powerful ocean waves and Coqui frog serenades.
Wednesday night visits to Kalapana, just 3 miles down the road, great to take in some local music, food and dancing. Enjoy good eats at Kaleo’s for dinner and Tin Shack bakery in the nearby town of Pahoa.
Day tripping up and down Kalapana-Kapoho road, favorites on our list, Kehena black sand beach, snorkeling at the tide pools, geothermal pool and day hikes. Plenty of local markets for fresh vegetables, fruits and hand crafted products.
Such comfort, spacious and clean, inside and out. We will definitely return, until next time.
