Casa Cereza is a wooden/cement/palm roof house with 2 floors. The first floor apartment is surrounded by a terrace on three sides with a lovely seaview. There is a big spacy living room with a typical Mexican kitchen which is fully equipped.
The masterbedroom(kingsize) is very comfortable and like all the other rooms in the house natural ventilated with windows all around. A little private terrace makes part of the sleeping room. The second bedroom(queensize) is full of light and color and offers lovely seaview from bed! The bathroom is connected with living room and sleeping room. You can see the sunset from your hammock!
Downstairs is a independent apartment where the owner lives. The house is situated in a lovely garden in front of your own lonely beach, near to the village(10 min walk) but far enough to desconnect and enjoy complete tranquility.

Sabine and her son Noe Mixtli. I am from Austria, Noe was born in Mexico and had the big adventure to grow up on Holbox Island. We built our lovely home which we would like to share with you, slowly and over years, that's why it came out so special. We continue traveling, going her and there, but our home and base is Isla Holbox with its charming people. They make you feel part of them, they make you feel home and in family. The atmosphere and the rhythm is difficult to describe, so come and see!
The Owner purchased this house in 2008
The reason why we got stuck on this charming island: so many things, the nature-beauty of this place, the beauty of the people, no traffic, no roads, no shoes!, quietness, nice beach-bars, the best food all over the world, very good restaurants and always a lot of things to do....
It was so wonderful. A really charming house full of nice details. In the night the full moon was going down in the see. Our sleep was deep becoause of the sound of the waves.
My husband and two children and I had a great time at Casa Cereza. Sabine is so nice and willing to help in any situation. She made all our arrangements, including transport to and from Cancun, had our golf cart waiting, lined up individual boat trips for us with people she knows and got us the best prices. Her cafe is wonderful and she packed delicious picnics for us on home-made bread. I highly recommend the quail egg omelet, from Sabine's backyard quails. There is horseback riding just a couple of properties down the beach, and Alejandro and Dora (horse owners) are super nice. We really enjoyed a boat trip with a friend of Sabine's; first we fished and then he made ceviche with the fish we had caught - the most delicious meal ever!
This upstairs apartment is a charming 2 BR + full kitchen that was built in the style of traditional palapa architecture. If you need A/C, this is not your place. If you are looking for an experience in a very clean, traditional-style place, though, THIS IS your place. The table on the nice wrap around deck has an ocean view, the master bedroom has its own private balcony and the fantastic, full-shade lounger/hammock beach area is 18 steps away. After hunting the length of the island, her beach was the best on the island -- way better than the opposite-end, high-volume area offers where the Gulf Stream forces flotsom and trash up to cover the sandy areas. While this area is quiet and secluded it was an easy 5-7 minute stroll to town, to beach bars in the marina area or to the wide variety of restaurants available in town. If you want a taxi back, they were cheap (40 pesos) and normally easy to find. Of course for a leisurely breakfast or happy hour drinks, Sabine's on-site Cafe del Mar was pretty nice as well.
As a 5 or 6 time VRBO user, I was a bit skeptical about having an on-site owner...boy was I wrong. She was wonderful hostess who never steered us wrong. Whether recommending shopping places or restaurants, having local advice was awesome. I highly recommend staying here if you are visiting the lovely Isla Holbox.
I also recommend 100% DEET insect repellent if you plan on being out after dark when the breeze slows down. I do not think I can blame the mosquito bites on the property, and Sabine warned us early about them. They are not as bad as some place like Bonaire, but they are certainly as bad as Florida/Louisiana/Texas Gulf Coast areas. Happily, every opening in the house has a tight screen in place to keep the critters out.
Our stay on Isla Holbox was only made better by staying at Casa Cereza. Sabine our host was so sweet and acomadating. We could ask her anything and if she herself didn't have the answer she knew someone that did. We truly made a friend in Sabine and hope to go and see her again. The house is just as you see it. The beach is only steps away beautiful and quite. A great place to go and listen to the ocean and look for sea shells. My favorite spot was the hammock on the veranda outside our room. I will miss that hammock. I will be telling all my friends if they go to Holbox to stay here. There are several places to eat for breakfast or dinner but don't miss out on eating at Casa del Mar Sabines own restaurant for breakfast right down the stairs from your room.
We spent just under 10 days at Casa Cereza and immediately fell in love with the whole experience. We are 2 adults and 2 children aged 10 and 15. The house is rustic and colourful and filled with cool sea breezes. The main balcony is located amongst the palm trees with a view of the sea and the other balcony gives you a view of the sunset if you happen to miss it on your beach walk. We walked into town every day, pastries for breakfast and groceries for dinner or an elote or crepe after a dinner out. It is a lovely walk, filled with beach treasures and incredible bird sightings. Sabine was welcoming and helpful from the first phone call and always answered our emails in the initial stages of planning. Everything she said about the place was accurate, the photos in the listing don't do justice to the place in real life, it is truly even more beautiful once you get there. We saw many properties on Holbox on-line and walked by them everyday into town - we were thankful every time that we trusted our instinct and stayed at Casa Cereza. The house was clean and simple, but had everything we needed to cook at home and comfortably sleep and house all 4 of us. Sabine was lovely with the children, cutting open coconuts and even buying them a soccer ball to play with on the beach. She gave us tips on the island and organized our arrival in Cancun, a trip to underground caves as well as a trip to local ruins. On the day we left Sabine took care of all our travel plans back to the airport. She truly made it easy - very reliable and very informative! We would highly recommend Casa Cereza to anyone wanting a place away from the hubbub of the town and the tourist resorts. Casa Cereza feels like home. Perfect for families or a romantic getaway. We will definitely return. Thank you Sabine for creating such a lovely and special spot on this very magical island.
My husband and I are not 4 Star Hotel people. We always look for a litle adventure visiting somewhere that will speak to us about the people and the country they live in. Casa Cereza is just such a getaway. Private and quiet and peaceful, it is exactly as advertised in the listing. The second floor apartment is bright and airy with ample space to cook and sun and relax. We spent most of our time on one of the 3 balconies, sitting and reading in the beautiful Holbox sun. The white expansive beach was only steps away, and, yes, we could see the gulf and the sunset from the balcony. Sabine, the owner of Casa Cereza is the perfect host. She is so respectful of the privacy of the guests, but is right there to make suggestions and give advice on everything from cerveza delivery to freshly squeezed orange juice brought right to the door. She organized a spectacular fishing trip for us and even did us the honor of joining the expedition. We thoroughly enjoyed the pleasure of using Sabine`s bicycles for the 5 minute trip into town or touring round the island. Everything was at our finger tips. The kitchen was well stocked, including water, and the rest of the apartment was very comfortable. It is easy to reccommend this rustic home for a most enjoyable stay. Thanks, Sabine. Hasta luego.
My partner and I had high hopes when we went to Isla Holbox and for accomodations, Casa Cereza far surpassed them all. We stayed for 12 days and are already planning our next trip back. If you are looking for total privacy and absolute peace, Casa Cereza certainly offers that. It has a quaint, clean, well equipped, traditional, nurturing environment. Close enough to town for groceries and restaurants yet far enough away to feel you found your own slice of paradise. There aren't many places left in the world like this. The wrap around balcony was dreamy. We watched many sunsets from there. Wow, having white sand and a turqoise ocean as your front yard is delicious. Sunbathing on the deck area outside of the bedroom is really private. The place is so well ventilated that the refreshing wind blows right through to keep you cool. All the windows are well screened to keep out most of the bugs. One thing we recommmend is bringing flashlights for seeing at night and for checking for insects.
Sabine, the home owner, was a perfect host and really now, we'd call her our friend. She is so kind and down to earth and was highly respectful of our privacy. She was great with providing us with fresh clean water, linens and advice about the island. Also, making all the arrangements and payments with her was so easy. Our favorite place to eat breakfeast was at Mapaches where Sabine is actaully the chef. She makes fantastic omelettes, homemade bread and jam. The menu offers many options. The coffee rocks too! What else can we say, Casa Cereza, Holbox, Sabine, we miss you. Muchas Gracias, Y n B
casa cereza is a short walk out of the village, so even during high season its a very peaceful spot to stay. for those who love their privacy.
