Family of four and that resides in Charlotte, NC but wishes they could be at the cabin all the time. Adults work for the school system that both boys attend and in County government. Dogs and chickens are also a part of the family!
Dennis and Lynne purchased this house in 2007
Purchased for weekend getaways from the hustle and bustle of big city life. Within easy driving distance of home, but offers an experience that is truly transcendent.
Peaceful and quiet, the cabin provides a break from the heat and high humidity of Charlotte summers. An amazing place to watch snow fall while nestled in front of the warm fireplace. Summer activities include hiking area trails or just walking the neighborhood, playing in the park in downtown Blowing Rock; or horseback riding. Winters are spent skiing, shopping, and enjoying each others' company. The wraparound porch offers some amazing views. The wood construction of the A-frame house is rustic, solid, and charming.
I usually have had very positive experiences using vrbo rentals but this cabin was musty and moldy upon arrival. There was black mold in the master bath that extended all along the tub. The owners should invest in a dehumidifier as the Carolina's received a lot of rain this summer. Lots of cobwebs and dust bunnies. But the worst part is the oven which is completely unsafe. The oven door doesn't stay down when you open the door. My husband got his hand burned. Also the owner says to decrease the cooking temperature and timing because the oven is bit "tricky". We cooked a beef tenderloin in record time but the tinfoil we used burned and filled the cabin up with smoke. We were monitoring the oven the whole time. Contacted the owner upon return and her response was that she would contact the cleaning company. Nothing about the oven concerns. We won't return to their cabin.
This cabin was very welcoming! We stayed in mid-February, and were even treated with a miniature snow storm! Our group consisted of 4 teenage girls and one adult, and we were all thrilled. It is nestled peacefully up on the mountain within a very safe-feeling, gated community. The drive to the cabin was somewhat lengthy, but we were not bothered. The bedrooms were well-kept, and downstairs was very cozy. My only complaint would be that the larger of the two upstairs bedrooms was very chilly, but this was to be expected considering the snow blanketing the outdoors. All of us girls loved the small loft within the twin bedroom; it was perfect for staying up late and chatting without waking anyone else! The cabin comfortably sleeps 6 people maximum (unless someone volunteers to sleep on the couch/floor), because of it's smaller size. The TV was a nice touch, and we enjoyed watching the snow fall outside the sliding glass doors. There were also plenty of board games and blankets in the closet at the top of the stairs, which was very thoughtful. The outdoor atmosphere was just what we expected, with a sloping roof and an almost "Swiss" look to the little cabin! The owners were wonderful to work with, including a "free" night so that we could come down one night earlier, and we would definitely consider staying again. Overall, it was the perfect mountain getaway!
We Had a Wonderful Time staying in this cabin. It was wonderful and the pictures do not do it Justice. We loved the location, We also enjoyed every minute at the cabin.
We are so grateful to this family for allowing us to use their home. The owners are attentive and send information anticipating your every need. There is 24 hour security at the gate. The grounds are beautifully kept. The house itself has all the charm you would want in the mountains with the modern day convieniences we don't want to give up. My family of 5 and 2 large dogs had plenty of space and enjoyed cuddling up next to the fireplace. The view of Grandfather Mountain was a bonus! We can't wait to go back and hope to stay here again soon!
We just spent a fabulous weekend at this cabin - 2 little girls and 2 big dogs in tow. My girls loved the children's room - the house was spacious and comfy, plus close to everything! We had fun at Tweetsie and at the Halloween festival in Blowing Rock. Plus, my dogs loved taking walks through the neighborhood and we enjoyed having them with us. We are looking at making a trip back to get our Christmas tree. The owners were so easy to communicate with and the sheet they gave us prior to checkin gave us all the information we needed. Thank you!
This is a great secluded place to get away from it all. We enjoyed our five-night stay immensely. It's well-maintained and well-stocked. Boone, Blowing Rock and the Parkway are only a few minutes away. We've been going to the Boone-Blowing Rock area for nearly 40 years, and this ranks as one of the very best places we've ever stayed. We definitely plan to come back and would heartily recommend it to others.
Situated just off the Blue Ridge Parkway and adjacent to Moses Cone Park, Hound Ears Club offers a private residential community with 24 hour security in an amazingly serene setting. Our home is convenient to downtown Blowing Rock, with its shopping and dining options. It also is just minutes from Boone; attractions there include collegiate sports at Appalachian State University. Valle Crucis Park is an amazing gem tucked behind the original Mast General Store where kids can run and play while parents walk the track. Great base for exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway, whether for a scenic drive or to undertake hikes from easy to challenging. Ski Appalachian or Sugar Mountain slopes are just a brief car ride away. A beautiful place to watch the leaves change in autumn, a welcome respite from the heat and humidity of summer, and a cozy place to curl up by the fire and read as snow falls around you in winter. Four wheel drive vehicles are not required to access the house nor the amenities the area has to offer.
