The mature gardens and property's central location are among its special features. The unexpected scale of the back garden startles most visitors. From the street, the property is rather hidden and unassuming. Most don't anticipate its multiple levels and architectural charm. A special treat is the visiting wildlife - whether seen roosting in trees or drinking from the fountains... Hawks, owls, tropical parrots, squirrels, hummingbirds, even an occasional fox have been spotted on the grounds.
Each time my wife & I return to this perfectly appointed and warm Craftsman home in the perfect location (minutes to Balboa Park, Coronado, Hillcrest, Downtown, shopping -- everything!) we feel like second-home owners ourselves, as we sip our coffee in our private hummingbird- and fountain-filled garden. We found our host, space, location, and weather to be perfect. We enjoyed making breakfast and eating it on the deck overlooking our personal garden. After a fun day of exploring it was great to come back to our "home" and relax in the large, but cozy living room. Everything we wanted to see and do was so convenient. We are already making plans to return to San Diego and stay here. After all, there is no place like "home."
We were thrilled with the space and the location of this lovely unit. The neighborhood was safe and walkable. There is great freeway access, and it is close to good grocery stores. We could easily get to all our favorite haunts in Hillcrest, made it to Coronado Beach in minutes, and it was a hop skip and a jump to Balboa Park and Zoo. The living area and bedroom were spacious. The bed and furniture comfortable. The outdoor space was ample and private. The owner has lovingly restored this Craftsman bungalow and lives on the property, which has lush landscaping and very private grounds. He was very gracious. We would definitely return.
First time VRBO user and I certainly started with a great property. Excellent location with ease to Balboa Park and quick highway access to get around San Diego. The property location is as calming and beautiful as shown. Had no issues with noise level and everything was nice and quiet. Kent provides excellent service and information; he is readily available as much as you need him. A gracious host who allows privacy you need with excellent service. Definently worth a first time and return visit
as a VRBO user for many years, we looked forward to renting this property for our long weekend in San Diego. the suite was perfect for our needs. we enjoyed quiet breakfasts on the balcony for two and loved relaxing in the large living area watching television or reading. conveniently located to great restaurants (try Il Postino and Bread et Cie), the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park. super clean rental and you can see the care of ownership in the well maintained rental and surround property. meeting the owner when we arrived was great and so very helpful in knowing where to go and how to get there. still so many things we want to do in san diego, we will definitely be back and staying in this rental again.
We stayed at this fabulous rental in the upper suite, for 2 weeks. It was perfect! The property is beautifully landscaped with lush greenery and is fenced off to ensure privacy. The entire suite was very clean and had everything and more than we needed. The furniture is cozy and comfortable. I'm very picky about the bed and shower in places where we stay and they were both great. We loved the proximity to the Balboa Park Museums and the Zoo and enjoyed the 20 minute walk there along nature trails.
Kent is a very gracious host and keeps the property maintained to high standards. We would not hesitate on staying here again.
This was the perfect place to stay for a week getaway to warmer weather for my husband and me. We both have only positive comments that I hope can do this home away from home justice.
The suite was the upstairs of a huge home, full living room w fireplace, huge bedroom, private bath, updated kitchen, two balconies to enjoy early morning coffee or evening glass of wine, and courtyard with romantic bubbling fountain.
It was spotless, fully stocked with everything we needed, with a very comfortable king bed and pillows, spacious floor plan to relax in after a busy day of sightseeing. We slept so well!
Our host Kent provided expert advice on local activities and restaurants. The home is so convenient to every part of the city, yet private, with amazing tropical gardens. It was such a well kept and solid home that it felt like we were the only ones there, with our own private entrance and patios. In fact, we never saw or heard the other couple staying in the lower level.
While visiting we toured Balboa Park several times as it was just a block away, went whale watching, toured Coronado, Point Loma, all from this convenient location.
We give this a 5 star rating, and we are pretty particular travelers! I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did!
