The peaceful mountaintop community of Green Valley Lake was developed in the 1930s as a mountain retreat and recreational area. The small village features two restaurants covering breakfast lunch and dinner, a small grocery for the essentials, a small hardware store, and post office (as well as the requisite real estate offices). A three-minute walk takes you to the lake itself with its swimming beach and access to the boat dock where canoes, kayaks, row boats, and paddle boat may be rented (no power boats are permitted). The stocked lake is very popular for fishing either from boats or from the shore. The Green Valley Lake roads are slightly hilly making for leisurely neighborhood walks and enjoying the wide variety of mountain architecture. Well marked trails into the San Bernadino National Forrest are available for the more adventuresome.
The all-cedar cabin was built by noted area designer/builder, Virgl Wilde, with his trademark window framing, functional styling and heavy planked bar in the kitchen. The large deck across the back of the cabin, surrounded by majestic pine trees, provides a combination of sun and shade throughout most of the day for sunbathing, bird watching, or just enjoying the view and refreshing mountain air.
The cozy interior features comfortable seating in the cedar-gabled living room for reading, games, and just relaxing. The amenities include a stereo receiver with CD changer, cable TV with DVD and VCR, and a high speed internet connection. A high bar with stools separates the kitchen from the living room permitting easy chatting during meal preparation in the fully equipped modern kitchen with adjoining dining area for four. Central heating will remove winter's chill within minutes after arrival. The final touch of charm comes from the wood-burning, cast iron Franklin Fireplace.
Steve and Gordon use this highly functional, nicely appointed cabin as a peaceful retreat from the desert heat. We are hoping that you will enjoy this wonderful spot as much as we do.
The Owner purchased this cabin in 1991
The area is very much unspoiled and unchanged since I first saw it in my youth.
Relaxing on the deck or lakeside. Fishing in the well stocked lake, and the seasonal art exhibits. Watching the seasons change.
We rented this at the last minute and Steve the owner was great to work with and easy to get a hold of. We usually go to the Big Bear area once a year for snowplay with our kids and enjoy Green Valley because it is closer and quieter. The cabin was well appointed, roomy enough for us and the heater works great! Some cabins seem obviously stocked with discards and worn out stuff and this is not one of them. New carpet, nice furniture and everything you need in the kitchen made it a nice place to come back to after a day of playing in the snow. There is a tubing park just up the mountain from the Green Valley Lake turnoff that was perfect too. We would definitely come here again - it's probably awesome in the summer with a nice deck too. There is now wifi at the cabin and the internet connection was strong.
I would do this again! This cabin had everything. Clean linens, games, TV, stereo, plates, silverware... Propane BBQ.
The cabin is very comfortable. It was like house sitting at a friends house.
My family and I had a nice getaway for Valentines Day/ Presidents Day weekend. Its not too big and not too small, perfect size for 4. We enjoyed our time very much. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at the cabin and the fire place is really cute. We loved how quickly the cabin would warm up as soon as we put the fireplace or heater. We also enjoyed the deck, we had breakfast there every morning. We were at walking distance to the lake which was very nice and relaxing. Even though it wasn't snowing, it was still beautiful being in the middle of nature. We definitely enjoyed ourselves and plan to make another trip when its snowing.
Only issue we had was no wifi and the land line was not working but it was no biggie, luckily we did have cell phone service in case of an emergency and we didn't mind disconnecting from the world for a few days.
Had a great time with the family. Recommend to anyone, who would enjoy a nice clean charming cabin.
This was a nice location for our small Christmas outing with another couple. The cabin had most everything we needed in terms of cooking items. It also did heat up quite nicely. The rooms are very small, but we didn't need much since we were only using those rooms for sleeping.
We found it lacking a few supplies that we needed to go out and get outside of Green Valley. Mainly the cabin had little toilet paper and paper towels. We came prepared not to need grocery shopping as we knew the local "grocery store" lacked everything but liquor. Since we came prepared food supplies was not an issue. Green Valley is a bit of a drive from everything else, so it's important to come with what you need!
Trash is also a hassle, but, thankfully, we were around during a time they had the trash collection. Those that amass a lot of trash may find yourself with a stinky cabin.
The fridge is of the smaller variety, but we managed to find room for our food.
The large plates are not microwaveable, so this made a small inconvenience to reheating out Christmas leftovers.
Overall, it was the perfect place for a retreat to relax and play Monopoly (lasted only 1.5 hours - we play by the rules!).
This cabin is a little gem, as they say. Very tidy and comfortable. Decorated nicely. Kitchen has plenty of useful things to assist in making meals. Very quiet and peaceful and right around the corner from the lake. We enjoyed it so much that we booked it again for a weekend in December. Looking forward to booking once again in the summer.
