The Appalachian Trail crosses the ridge 3/4 mile above the house -- two & 1/2 mile hike (one-way), moderate difficulty, to Kelly Knob overlook. Just 15 short miles to the West, you can hike to The Cascades National Recreation Site or go kayaking, canoeing & white-water rafting on the New River.
