|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Nestled on a high ridge overlooking Claytor Lake, this lodge offers privacy with ample acreage and lake access all in one location. This is the perfect retreat for a gathering of family and friends, with plenty of room for everyone to stretch out and have their own space. It is a great home base for Virginia Tech games or local graduations.
There are hiking paths on the property and the New River Trail bicycle path is nearby. You can rent a boat or kayak from a local marina and moor it at the dock on the property.
The quiet and seclusion are unique features found here. You can choose a book from the shelves and walk to a high point with the perfect hammock setting. There are many authors to choose from including Virginia residents David Baldacci, Patricia Cornwell, and John Grisham. You can also choose one of the board games or take in a game of miniature pool in the game room.
In the cooler seasons the beautiful wood burning fireplace really sets the mood in this well appointed upscale home. You can be as comfortable here as you would be anywhere. This lodge is right at home in the rustic beauty of this site.

We loved the place: the dock, the evening fires, the great house and land, the wonderful view of Claytor lake.
The first day we dropped kayaks into the lake from the State Park and rowed them over, its very close, but the end of the week we carried them up the stairs and up the path to the road. That was a big effort but quicker than driving to the park - most people won't want to do that.
We biked the New River bike path and crossed several bridges and through a tunnel. That was a great trip.
We saw many dear and at least 10 turkeys lived just over the hill on the way out.
Its easily one of the best vacations we've ever had.
This place is wonderful. The lodge is amazing, and Ron (the owner) was so helpful with everything. So much to see and do in the area. Claytor Lake is beautiful. We rented a pontoon boat and a speed boat from nearby Claytor Lake water sports, and the kids had a blast, swimming, fishing, tubing and water skiing. The prices were good, and they delivered the boats right to our dock. If you like wildlife, I lost count of all the deer we saw, just coming up the driveway to the lodge. And at night...the fireflies brought back a few memories of growing up in the country. We were all a little sad when it came time to leave. The vacation will be a very memorable one.
We rented this property to be near family for a reunion. It was fantastic! The photos and description were accurate. The house is very clean and nicely decorated. Ron was extremely helpful and friendly. We look forward to returning.
My friends and I stayed here last summer and had such an amazing time! The pictures honestly don't do the house all the justice it deserves. It is meticulously clean and beautifully decorated. The open kitchen, living room and dinning area are perfect for accommodating a big group and all of the bedrooms are spacious.
The wrap around deck and lawn are great for watching the sun set over the lake, barbecuing, sitting around the camp fire and playing games.
The lake is GORGEOUS! There is a private dock that is perfect for sunbathing, diving into the water or renting a boat (which I highly recommend doing). The walk down to the lake is very steep (I would not recommend the house to anyone with disabilities or very young children), but you get used to it and honestly, it makes you feel better about those beers that you drank on the lake :)
I did not get the opportunity to meet Ron, but he was a pleasure to communicate with via e-mail and the phone. He was very responsive to any questions and offered us great advice about attending the Floyd Fest Musical Festival. Lastly, I don't know the details of Craig's stay (see review below), but my group of young professionals definitely enjoyed ourselves without receiving any visits from the police, neighbors and/or Ron! The house is pretty secluded, but sound travels over a lake. As long as your group is reasonably respectful, you should be able to have a great time while avoiding any late night visits from the police!
I truly do not have any complaints, but I would warn that the roads leading up to the house are very narrow, winding and steep! Just take it slow and you will be fine!
All in all, it is probably the best vacation rental I have ever stayed in and hope to come back someday!!
This is such a lovely vacation home. We have our reservations made for our third visit to this beautiful lakefront retreat. If you want peace and quiet, beautiful surroundings, and great accommodations, this is truly a gem. Excellent hosts; all the amenities that anyone would need are provided. Great outdoor space and lovely interior.
Everything about this rental description was spot on and then some. This was one of the most relaxing vacations we've experienced in awhile. The lodge was immaculate, everything we could possibly need for a home away from home was provided, and the owner was extremely helpful with directions and instructions for check in and check out. The view was amazing. As we are foodies and enjoy whipping up all of our meals, we couldn't have asked for a more well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed all of the games provided, the fire pit for roasting wieners, the great dock for sunning and relaxing (I got in a few yoga practices on the dock in the a.m.), and the wildlife (our dog Napa learned about a new bird...a wild turkey)! We rented a canoe to traverse the lake at the Claytor Lake Marina in the state park, enjoyed a driving tour of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, and a great lunch at The Cellar. The Hubby took home a few selections of craft beers from there to enjoy back at the lodge. The wi-fi worked like a charm (there was a vacationer who couldn't quite leave her work behind), and three of us who are addicted to either Facebook or the Weather Channel online. Thanks so much for a wonderful week. We highly recommend it to anyone who needs some serious R&R.
Several excellent golf courses within 20 miles, including the Pete Dye River Course and Draper Valley Golf Club.
Near the 'Crooked Road', which links many of Virginia's heritage music venues, including the Floyd Country Store, which is 27 miles away.
