Having lived in every region of the USA, we chose Culpeper to put down roots. The horse farm we have developed is so beautiful and private, just the place to retreat to in this busy world. Both my husband and me served in the Air Force-Alan retired as a Col, and have seen many places, but Fancy Fox has the best of all worlds. My 2 teens say we can never leave, and keep themselves happy with all the natural activities of the farm-the perfect antidote for stress. As 1 of 17 children, I have always been easy with a crowd, so come and see us!
Mrs. B purchased this estate in 2000
Culpeper was designated, 'One of the best small towns in America', for its quaint shopping, fine dining, civil war sites, 4 season beauty, moderate climate; all within 65 mi of DC and 45 mi to Charlottesville. It is in the center of the Fox Hunting world, a beautiful 21 mile drive to Skyline Drive and the majesty of the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah Valley, the area is dotted with farms, wineries, views and Southern manners and tranquility.
We are a totally private estate where you and family can feel safe and secure to roam about our many acres, with exhilarating freedom. The scenery, wildlife, and so many things to do please everyone.
From hiking to skeet, visit wineries, fish for over 6 lb bass, breakfast meet and greet to send off the hounds and foxhunters, secluded campground w/ fire pit, accompanied skydiving, play equine soccer, relax in seclusion, visit Civil war sites, nature hike on site, swim in 44x22 Gunite pool, jump on horse trails w/over 40 jumps, practice dressage in ring, use the 175x300 jump ring, sip cocoa in front of your gas FP, visit caves, trail ride, partake in a pre-arranged clinic of your choice, leaf peep on the Skyline Drive, etc.- people say they never run out of things to do.
This was the second annual weekend getaway for the group of mid-20 year old college buddies scattered throughout the state. This trip included a bachelor party twist. We spent most of our time out on the shooting range and enjoyed all the outdoor space the farm had to offer. The owners are welcoming and willing to allow us to have our space, all while being available to help with any request. Truly a remote location away from any sort of busyness that comes with every day life. This is a great spot for all ages and we will certainly be back in the future. Thanks again!
This property is located within 10 minutes of my mother's house. I took my two daughters and their families for a 9 day stay, so they could spend time with their grandmother/great-grandmother and enjoy all the wonderful activities the area has to offer. There were eight of us (4 adults and children aged 12, 6, 3 and 12 months). We were warmly welcomed when we arrived, found the house decorated for Christmas (just the right amount), and were able to settle in immediately. The kids were instantly delighted with the playroom. The sleeping arrangements worked out perfectly for all of us.
We celebrated Christmas and New Year's Eve there, plus a first birthday for the baby. We also were able to host a family reunion, some of the time at the rental and some of the time at my Mother's place. My mother, who is 95 and uses a walker, was able to get into the house with minimal effort. She joined us there about as often as we went to her home.
I'd recommend this rental to anyone who wants to spend time outdoors, enjoys the area, and/or is looking for a nice getaway that is still close to shopping and lots to do. The owners are very helpful and willing to assist whenever asked. Great people and great location!
We had a great time at Fancy Fox Farms. The kids loved the trampoline, swings, and gator. The house is very cozy and has one of the biggest gas fireplaces that I've ever seen and it really pumps out some heat for those cold nights. The family who runs the estate is very kind and helpful as well. We had a great time!
We just spent a delightful Easter weekend at Fancy Fox farm. The place was perfect for 3 grandparents, 2 parents and one 9 year old boy. The property has many diversions, including exciting playground equipment for little ones & also a trampoline. There are opportunities for campfires, gator rides & hiking trails & of course the horses. For our young man however the only thing that mattered was the fishing lake from which he caught several fish that he fixed for supper. He was very proud of his bass. The property is beautiful & well maintained. All the flowering trees were in bloom including 2 huge old crabapple trees in wonderful pink blossoms. The house was very clean with comfortable beds & quality linens. The kitchen was well equipped with all basic utensils. The owner is very outgoing, friendly & accommodating. This is a place for relaxing. It is also near to enough attractions to keep you busy with day trips if you want to leave the farm for awhile. Highly recommended for multiple age groups. Although the first floor is accessible once you are inside, all entrances have at least one step, so would not work well for wheelchair bound people. Also the property is rolling hills, which if you are out of shape like we are, may cause some shortness of breath when walking.
We have for the past 4 years met at a location with our 3 adult children, and their families (11 people in total).
This was by far the best place that we have stayed at! We enjoyed the pool, fire pit, fishing lake, rides in the gator & feeding the horses. Our grandkids played on the jungle gym and in the sandbox every day. We went to the shooting range one evening and had a great time hitting (sometimes) clay pigeons.
The home is well taken care of and very up to date with appliances. We sitting out on the patio in the evenings and enjoying the many butterflies that would come in.
It is definitely a place that we will frequent again!
The hosts are very friendly, accommodating and desire to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.
We had virtually no concerns, but a power outage did occur and the owner came and quickly found out that a switch had been turned off to that room that supplied the power.
It was very warm the week we were there, but the air conditioning was sufficient for the need.
I would not hesitate recommending this fine facility to anyone.
Culpeper is a few miles away and there are coffee shops, Wal-Mart, pizza restaurants, movie theater, and many small shops that one can spend all the time necessary to find something to take home as a reminder of the special time.
The property is very well maintained, comfortable, and able to accommodate easily our family of 11.
It was a relaxing and refreshing time that we will appreciate for quite a while yet.
We had a fantastic vacation at Fancy Fox Farms. This trip was for 2 Seniors that graduated in May from high school. We love the country. So we loved all that we were able to do on the farm. Country girls and guys, Moms, Dad, Grampa and Gramma all had a blast. Grampa caught so many fish that he stopped counting. Gramma fished on day caught 8. The girls caught fish, lost count and the guys lost count. I know you think this is a BIG FISH STORY, but let me tell you the biggest bass I have ever seen, is of course the one that got away. On an 8 lb test line MJ caught a bass so big it jumped up out of the water and he wrestled it till it wrapped him up in the lilly pads. Then he and Grampa got in the paddle boat and tried to get to him but he broke the line right before they got it in the boat. Oh well, he is still in the pond just waiting for someone to catch him. After fishing each day we would go for a swim in an excellent pool. I loved the pool. We took a day trip to Rockville, Md on Thursday to "Go Ape" what a blast! Then on the way back to the farm we stopped at the Tram station in Rockville and parked our car. Rode the tram into Washington, DC for the day. Just not enough time for everything. We went riding on the gator along the perimeter and went to the shooting range the last day to shoot. All in all it was OFF THE HOOK!!! If you are looking for a place to crash and have a relaxed time Fancy Fox Farms is great. Thanks to you Ms. Collen, Al and the girls for some precious memories.
Roller Skating Rink, Family Bowling Center or treat yourself to one of our chef-owned great restaurants. Many of Va's award winning vineyards are very close by w/frequent wine tastings. Skyline Drive is just 22mi W. Battlefields and historical sites are numerous. Montpelier is within 30 min, as is SkyDive Orange, a great place to really do something exciting and once in a lifetime thrill-Yes, I did it! The Flying Circus is every Sun, May-Oct. Foxhunts abound. The State Theatre has frequent live shows and Culpeper has many local festivals. We have the National Archives. Many organic shops and unique small shops in downtown as well as large supermarkets. There is a small very interesting museum and many civil war type activities and houses. The local public golf course is a hit w/guests.
