Falmouth is one of the oldest towns in cape cod; incorporated in 1694. It is noted for its beautiful beaches. Because of its strategic location on a corner of land it is surrounded on 3 sides by water, therefore it has more beaches than any other town on the Cape, nine (9) in all. The main points of interest are: the Nobska Lighthouse, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Aquarium of the National Marine Fisheries, the Village Green and Katherine Lee Bates House. The island of Martha's Vineyard can plainly be seen from any point along the shore; it is only 5 miles away. Ferries go back and forth regularly all year. The town teems with all kinds of recreational, cultural and entertainment opportunities for both children and adults. During the months of July and August open air concerts are held every Thursday at the Marina near the harbor.
