About Sherry Porter

Business owner in Jasper, Alabama and live in Addison, Alabama. We LOVE the gulf coast and always dreamed of owning a beach condo. Unfortunately, just after purchasing, the economy went south (no pun intended), and we had to take over a business that we owned but had leased out for several years. That, along with our other business investments, meant that we no longer had time to vacation and enjoy our beautiful condo. SO, we now share a little slice of Heaven with others....... like you!!!

What makes this condo unique

Because of it's smaller stature, we have smaller amenities beach front, which allowed our building to have less of a set back from the gulf. Four Winds is one of the closest buildings to the beach on the Alabama coast. The views from the balcony are breathtaking!!! Come sip your morning coffee while you watch the beautiful Gulf of Mexico sunrise!!

This condo delivers it all: Tasteful décor, clean & fresh upon arrival, and a living room larger than nearby 3 bedroom units we have rented. (No banged shins or stubbed toes!) Owner Sherry is friendly, available, & non-intrusive. Look no further than this one; you won't be disappointed.

we really had a good time

My wife and I just returned to NE Iowa from a week's stay in the condo. It was a very wonderful week. The unit was clean and we felt right at home. We brought a cooler and cooked some meals in the condo....nothing tastes like Iowa steak. The kitchen had all the plates and cookware we needed. After battling winter in our part of the world, it was nice to open the patio door and hear the waves lapping up on the beach! The whole facility seemed quiet and sleep came easy. We said hi to the neighbors once, but that was all we saw other than just a few people coming and going. Everyone we ran into seemed very pleasant. We spent a couple of hours sitting on the balcony one afternoon and that felt just about as good as life can get. We felt the 3rd floor was nice as we had a good view and took quite a few pictures. We also picked up shells on the beach---they were plentiful. Just a couple of notes, and they aren't big things, but take an extra roll or two of toilet paper, as one roll provided isn't perhaps enough for everyone for a week, and also, there were no paper towels, and they sure come in handy. At times traffic out front can be a bit busy, but street has good provisions for bikes and walking. All in all, it is a nice place to stay. My wife told me all the way home that we need to come down for a month instead of a week. Thanks!

Tennessee family, cute condo with a few hiccups!

The condo was cute but there were a few things that needed addressed. Upon our arrival the elevator wasn't working and we had to get all our luggage up all the stairs. I called to report and by that evening it was working so that was a plus, but on our departure day it wasn't working again so we still had to carry all luggage down stairs. I noticed the the sliding glass door was sticking quite often but still worked no biggie! The door to the laundry room was leaving scuff marks on the floor which was unsitely. The amount of cabinet space for food was almost none! Storage was a issue, upon arrival I noticed as we where getting ready to head to the beach as I walked in living room barefooted that sand was all over the floor. I got the broom and swept up a pile of sand so I don't think the floors had been swept before our arrival. I didn't report those minor things, they were things I could deal with...I think you might want to keep a closer check on the cleaning crew. The furnishings were very nice and the beds were very comfortable. The beach was beautiful in Orange Beach.

Owner's Response: Shelly, I am sorry you found some issues with the condo, and also puzzled that you are submitting a review 3 MONTHS after your departure (?), You never mentioned anything to me during your stay or even immediately after and I have my number and the cleaning services posted in two locations of the condo requesting guests to call us if they find anything that is not satisfactory. No one else has complained that the sliding door is or was sticking, but I will have my maintenance guy check that out. And the bi-fold doors have to be adjusted or replaced frequently, probably due to the fact that they are right beside the kitchen and in the main walk area where kids tend to play on them. As far as the elevator, I have no control over that but I do recall that in mid June there were several local power outages and surges due to the high volume of electricity being used, which caused problems with our elevator as well as others in the area. Our kitchen is the average size for a one bedroom (and even most 2) condo, so you might want to consider renting a larger unit in a larger complex for your future vacations..Still scratching my head over how you remember these things 3 MONTHS later and at 12:30 in the morning, but weren't bothered enough to call or email me at the time of your stay. Again, I apologize and will address the issues, but I feel we have a very nice updated condo at a great rate, (and please remember I was kind enough to work with you on your payments.)

We loved our vacation! Thank you so much for renting your lovely condo to us! We had the best time on our vacation. The condo is beautiful and we were very comfortable. We loved the lower density complex. No long waits for the elevator! The view is beautiful and the beach is stunning! We ate and ate and ate... No cooking for us on vacation but the kitchen had everything you would need. We went parasailing with the Sky Pirates (totally recommend them),

went on a dolphin cruise, saw a movie and got to see the light show at the Wharf , that was cool! But the best is obviously the beautiful beach!! Thank you again! Terri and Marty

Will not stay in this condo again......"nickle and dimed" our security deposit upon departure

I was not the contact person for renting this condo - but a guest. To start, we found a dishwasher full of dishes - CLEAN but full of dishes which we had to unload - NO BIG DEAL! One night, we tried to put a light bulb in a lamp - it shorted out the entire tv wall of the living room. We called the first contact person who I believe was the cleaning person and he called the owners. The owners were in town and graciously stopped by to address the issue. However, the owner insisted that the cleaning person had left a note (WE FOUND NO NOTE) not to use the lamp because there was a problem with it - maybe instead of just leaving the lamp with no light bulb - it should have been removed from the condo! The clothes dryer was missing a knob (we were informed of), however, it was difficult to try to figure out which cycle to use when trying to dry our clothes. The toilet seat was very loose...each time we sat, it felt as if we were going to fall right off. That wasn't fixed until Thursday of our week when the knob to the clothes dryer was brought. On the last morning as we left for a 12 hour drive home, the handle to the sliding glass door broke - cracked in the middle of the handle clearly from "wear and tear" from opening and closing the door. Safety deposit was not returned in full. Money was deducted for the following:

1. Sliding glass door handle (everyday maintenance issue -clearly from wear and tear) 2. Clean dishes left in the dishwasher (as we found on our arrival from the last guests) 3. Blinds fell down in the bedroom and we were unable to put it back up because of a chest of drawers was in front of it (maintenance issue).

4. We were told we didn't fold and put the extra blankets (gotten from the laundry room for the sofa bed) away ASSUMING that they needed to be washed after being used all week. Owner said that they don't wash the blankets after every rental. I was the guest who used the blankets on the sofa bed and I am APPALLED that I used DIRTY BLANKETS from previous renters. The entire security deposit should have been returned as all of the above issues were NOT due to neglect on our part as renters. Orange Beach is a beautiful place to visit - I have vacationed there many, many times in the last 10 years and will continue to do so. All have been VRBO rentals - this is the first time I have ever had any trouble with owners and not receiving full security deposits back. I personally will not be back to Four Winds!

Owner's Response: You are not the person who rented the condo, so you obviously are not aware of the issues prior to arrival, nor would you have signed and read a copy of the Rules and Regulations and Rental Agreement. The rental amount is due 30 days prior to arrival and I received it 3 weeks late. I worked with her due to the fact that she had encountered financial difficulties, but a rental company would have cancelled her reservation for nonpayment and kept the deposit. She sent a letter with the rental check stating she wanted me to keep the entire deposit because she did not pay in the required time. Again, I was understanding and had no intention of keeping her deposit, even though she instructed me to. She may have failed to mention that since you are so upset over her deposit. You did not read the note on the maintenance company invoice that I sent with her partial refund, because you are incorrect in your above statements. I did not deduct anything from the deposit for clean dishes left in the dishwasher. My policy is to leave the dishwasher running upon departure. The cleaning people unload and put them away, so that had nothing to do with the deduction. The guests who had left the morning prior to your arrival had put in detergent but apparently did not press the correct button on the dishwasher. The cleaning people found they were still dirty and ran it and left you a note due to time restrictions. The door handle was broken, and the bedroom curtain/blind had been torn down. The biggest issue I have is that no one even bothered to call me about either of these problems.These two things were all that I deducted and it was exactly what I was charged for the repairs ($85). Nothing was deducted for blankets and linens not being put back and I know of no owner or hotel/motel who washes the blankets and bedspreads after every rental. The maintenance man had put a dryer knob a few days before, but had to order the exact one. I asked of anything else that needed repaired when he brought the new knob and was told of the loose toilet seat which I had him repair when I got in touch with her to arrange for him to come. I regret that I had the issues, but this is only the 3rd time in 6 1/2 yrs and hundreds of rentals that I have withheld money from a deposit. There are notes in the condo with the numbers to my cleaning people and myself, stating that if you have any problems to please call us immediately because we can not fix what we do not know is broken.

Great space, great decor...needs some attention.

We were absolutely delighted at the decor and the location (right across from Wintzell's Oyster house!), the view, the wi-fi, the size perfect for two. We were mystified by a persistent odor in the lone bathroom (one is enough; it's what we have at home!) that we couldn't locate or get rid of. We tried everything to no avail. The bed was much larger than ours, but seemed to be high in t he middle and made a kind of scary noise when I got in---I'll admit to 30 extra pounds, but I don't think I could put THAT much stress on it! If those two things were addressed, we'd re-book in a flash, even if the owner had to invest a bit and pass the cost along. The price was just right, but we could pay a bit more in 2015.

Owner's Response: Sue, I am sorry that you found some things that were not satisfactory to you during your stay. I will have the condo association management company look into the cause of the odor in the bathroom. It could have been from a sewer system issue in the building, or possibly an overflow or as I have had no one mention this to me before or since your stay (and I have been booked solid). I will also have the cleaning people check the bed, but that is a brand new (and expensive) mattress in the master bedroom that we just put in three months ago, so I am not sure what the problem could possibly be. Again, I have had no other complaints. We pride ourselves on our condo and the condition that we strive to maintain, and spend a lot of money every year to make sure it remains at our standards and that of our guests. My main concern is that you were in our condo for two weeks, but never once notified me of the problems while you were there when I could have had my cleaning or maintenance company, or the Four Winds HOA management company come in to check it out, so we could have addressed them while you were there, but yet felt you needed to post a public review to complain. As you know, I have notices posted in the condo with my numbers and the cleaning company, and it's also on all of my paperwork, to encourage guests to let us know if they should encounter a problem. I live 350 miles from the condo and that is the best source of knowing if there is anything that needs addressed. Again, I apologize, I only wish you would have called or emailed me to let me know immediately.
