My wife and I were planning a last minute vacation to Hawaii, so we were willing to make compromises on where we'd be able to stay--but somehow we got this place and it was perfect! We wanted to stay in a quiet, clean, and private place; somewhere close to the beach, but still close to downtown Kailua; and, lastly, if possible, somewhere romantic. This place was perfect for us in all of those respects.
First off, the place was much nicer than it looks in the photos. The apartment was tastefully furnished and decorated, in a way that made it a very warm and inviting space. As soon as we stepped through the door we felt right at home: Hawaiian music was playing in the background, the fridge was stocked with food we'd requested, and (my favourite) there was a box of chocolate-covered macadamia nuts waiting on the bed.
The owners made us feel very welcome. They had plenty of good suggestions for places to visit (and trails to run), restaurants to eat at (we'd highly recommend Baci's...5 star food for 2 star prices...Make sure you get reservations, though!), and general advice that made our visit to Oahu much more pleasant.
Everything was immaculately clean; the apartment was very private (it's detached from the main house); the bed was very comfortable; it was well supplied with everything we could have wanted (beach towels, travel guides, etc.); the beach was only a short walk down the street; downtown Kailua and all the shops and restaurants were also within walking distance--in short, all of these things made this place very romantic for us. There wasn't a single detail that wasn't to our liking.
We're a young couple who enjoyed strolling through Kailua immensely. There's lots of good eateries (Lanikai Juice, Aloha Salads...and don't forget Baci's!), a surprisingly well-stocked used bookstore, and then there's that beach... We enjoyed walking along the beach, reading on the beach, getting sunburned on the beach (wear sunscreen!), and learning to boogie board at the beach.
My only hesitation in praising this property is that I worry about not being able to get a booking in the future! Highly recommended.
One parting piece of advice: if you're going to rent a car, I recommend taking a taxi or the bus to Kailua, and then renting from the Enterprise dealer there. The rates are under half those at the airport or in Waikiki, and there are no outrageous surcharges and fees. You can look it up online.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words and your glowing review! I'm so glad you returned home safely and in time to be with your aunt and family. Please come back again.......It was always such fun and so funny "bumping into" my sunburned Beachside neighbors when I was running errands in town! Have a terrific Spring and Summer. Again, thanks for choosing Beachside for your Hawaii vacation!
