Mulino di Anqua is an ideal place for those seeking a peaceful and luxurious get-away. You can chose to have only the main villa or both. We rent to only one group at the time! The Villas sit on 2 acres of secretly enclosed lush land within a nature reserve. The property is a place to truly embrace the Tuscan life. The spa includes the natural (saline) swimming pool, steam room, sauna and outdoor showers. All linens are high thread count. Nancy and I had a great time in Italy fulfilling a lifelong dream of exploring Tuscany and experiencing everything Italy has to offer. We wanted to thank you for allowing us the priveledge of staying at Mulino di Anqua, you have every right to be proud of what you have created, your home and it's surroundings are simply majestic. Nancy and I both loved every minute of our time spent there. It is not often that you can feel so at home when you are away from home but we did because of how welcomed you made us feel throughout the entire rental process. We especially want to recognize Christy, who went out of his way to make sure our every need was accomodated. He trully is a special person and you are very lucky to have him, we really enjoyed getting to know him and of course Aki too. That was a special treat in that we are both dog lovers and she was a great companion on our long walks around the area.

We hope you and Lisa had a wonderful vacation too and we are hopeful that our paths will meet in the future, maybe on another visit to your beautiful home. Nancy will make sure to highlight our experience on the VBRO website so others have the opportunity to have the same experience we did, thanks again.

We live in Florence adore the Tuscan lifestyle, the land, the food, the wine and its people. It was December 2000 when I discovered the villa (by chance) after it had been abandoned for over forty years... The vast nature of Anqua, the abundance of pure water and the potentiality of what was left of the architectural structure led me with all my enthusiasm and passion into the 10 years restoration process. The goal was to transform the XVI century Mill of Anqua into a place where the untouched nature and the comfort of modern day coexist. My favorite hobby is sailing. During an international regatta in 2009, in Newport RI, I met my wife Lisa. We love being a part of local village of Radicondoli - the people are exquisite and the village is extraordinary. Receiving guests at the villa gives us a genuine feeling of happiness. We look forward to assisting you in any way. Whether before, during and/or after your stay at the Villa - we want your vacation in Italy to feel as though you have somehow fulfilled a dream. Lisa is American, an avid yoga practioner and teacher. I am Italian and a passionate dancer and chef. The most beautiful creation is our daughter Eva who was born July 2011. For us, it truly is a great pleasure to share this little corner of world with our guests, some of whom have become dear friends.

Gerardo & Lisa purchased this villa in 2000

This property is located within a natural park reserve near the stream, Rimaggio. The water is clean, transparent and untouched. There is no form of pollution in the surrounding area. The nature is pure and the sounds are those of the forest. The Mill of Anqua is a rare oasis of tranquility just an hour from Florence, Siena or Punta Ala and 45 minute from Chianti, Montalcino or Bolgheri.

Just 25 minute driving from the two best five star hotels in Tuscany: Castello di Casole (voted nº 1 Resort in Europe in the Travel and Leisure and Cond Nast World's Best Awards 2013) and the Relays La Suvera. This property is like no other in Tuscany - its details are exquisite, authentic and refined. You will be transported to a different time and place. Relax by the grand pool and listen to the sound of the nearby stream. You will feel like having your own private Resort. You can choose to have service, type of service or just enjoy your privacy with the basics already offered. Enjoy a walk through the countryside to Anqua and see local wild life. The villa is in close proximity to Siena, Florence, Chianti, and the sea. We can coordinate weddings and other celebrations as well as sailing/boating excursions. The property is located in a national park reserve yet only an hour drive to Florence and Siena . The only sound are those of nature.

I (along with friends) stayed at Mulino di Anqua for 2 months (mid October-mid December). What a treat! Everything about this place is stunning. Even though we were here during the “low-season”, we enjoyed it thoroughly. We used both villas – enjoying both the privacy and the ability to be together when we wanted (the 2 villas are only 20 steps apart) The quality and detail of the restoration takes you to a different place and time. Everything is of the finest quality .We love cooking, so the well-equipped kitchen and outdoor barbecue were perfect! We enjoyed walking right from the property to explore the peaceful Tuscan countryside. We enjoyed nearby Radicondoli village the most as it was a nice change of pace from Siena and the larger villages – still offering great restaurants, markets, pharmacy, etc and truly kind and genuine village people .We delighted in the beautiful wines and vineyards of Chianti –only a 30 mn drive from the property. Mulino di Anqua was such a nice retreat after a long day of touring – we loved the pleasant sound of the stream running nearby. The fresh, pure well water for drinking and bathing in was a delight . We look forward to returning next summer so we can dine al fresco and enjoy the pool and waterfall area. Thank you, Gerardo, for a wonderful stay!

We rented this wonderful home for three weeks. Like so many other reviewers, we are well traveled. This was the best vacation we've ever had. The home is spectacular, the pictures on the website do not do it justice. The grounds are more mature than the pictures show, and the fragrance of the jasmine, lavender, roses, and other blossoms as they drift by is intoxicating. There is little noise, except for the constant melody of songbirds and the stream. There is no more delightful experience than having breakfast or lunch while lounging by the pool, an afternoon nap in the most confortable bed with fine linens, and then a long leisurely dinner alfresco on the patio surrounded by friends, family, and the spectacular Italian countryside. An this is just the outside of the house. Inside, you will find the perfect fusion of elegance and contemporary need. The king beds are a treat being that european rentals typically offer only full or queen size beds. The bathrooms are spacious. The kitchen is large and inviting, with all modern appliances. The house is also immaculately clean.

The location is perfect, halfway between Punta Ala and Florence the trip to either city takes about an hour. one hour from Siena, Bolgheri, Montepulciano, the chianti region and San Giminiano, which makes for the perfect day trip. There are also dozens of villages within an a half hour drive or so. Each one has its own individual character, but all are charming, with their delightful central piazzas, blooming flowers in residents’window boxes, simple traditional restaurants, local residents going about their daily life…It would take weeks to see them all.

Thank you, Gerardo and Lisa for creating this beautiful estate home. This was a vacation like no other. We will savor it and talk about it for years, and our children will talk about it for years to come!

My partner, our friends and I had a wonderful time at the Villa Mulino di Anqua.

We enjoyed the spa at the property, visited the beautiful local villages as well as did some day trips to Firenze and Sienna. One highlight was a concert at Accademia Chigiana.

We went to Paugnano (a nearby farm) for artisinal cheese and olive oil tasting. We went to the infamous Sassicaia vineyard in Bolgheri and enjoyed the most beautiful drive through Tuscany country side.

The nearest village, Radicondoli, is a friendly and the restaurants La Pergola and Agriteca are the best! We would not hesitate recommending the Villa to anyone! It’s location, the villa’s decor and setting, the owners’ kindness and daily guidance made our holiday 5 star.

The layout of the villa suited our needs perfectly. We did not understand the previous guest’s concern about the bedrooms, doors, etc.

The villa provided everything we needed for our authentic Italian experience. We can't wait to come back!

Thank you Gerardo and Lisa for all your support ! We enjoyed our entire vacation in Europe, thanks to your suggestions - a great ski week in Austria, an excursion to Venezia and of course, Your beautiful villa. The villa was designed perfectly for our group. We used all the bedrooms - the master bedroom with two king size beds suited my husband and I perfectly. Simon, our son, is still talking about the Excursion in the park and the most delicious pasta that Christy made for us. Christy was invaluable – he provided excellent service (house cleaning, cooking, grocery assistance, etc. during our time there. The sauna was a nice indulgence at the end of our day. We really appreciate your guiding us to the Panareta Winery, this was an extraordinary experience!

We have no words to thank you for your availability and look forward to returning to the villa in summer.

Owner's Response: Dear Babs,
Thank you for your words! Our greatest satisfaction in this work is the happiness of the guests. I can't wait to take you by boat to Capri and the Amalfi Coast next June and, of course, to have you back to the villa.

After a careful villa research on the internet, we - 2 happy and easy going couples 35-40 years old American and French- booked this villa for a week in July 2013. We unfortunately do not share the same view as the other reviews.

I will illustrate my report with few details but to make it short, we decided to turn around and take a chance to totally reorganise our holiday in the middle of July instead of accepting to be stuck in this villa. Ironically, the villa owner genuinely and happily helped us organise the first night in another location which was great because such decision was taken at 7pm.. Nonetheless our dream holiday plans were crushed and we lost the deposit.

The description of the villa is accurate but leads you to believe what it is not.
The villa is located down a valley with no Tuscan views.. 'The best we were explained because it is cooler and we don't see the sunset - all our italian friends come to visit is because it is 5 degrees cooler down the valley'
The bedrooms provide no intimacy : the master bedroom has no doors from the stairs and is a pass trough to another bedroom 'It is your responsibility, you should have asked for a floor plan we were explained'
The owners leave next door which in effect does not provide intimacy.
The villa seclusion is correct but easy access is relative given that you have to drive a bumpy dirt road downhill in a forest for 10 min to get to the villa. Not sure how you drive this at night and without damaging the bumper in a non 4x4 rented car.
There are obviously positives such as a cute garden and swimming pool, a beautiful building and nice linen.

Especially when the owner looks nice, it is always painful to write a negative review but we feel that in this case and for the 1st time, we need to share our disappointment which I effect ruined our holiday.

Owner's Response: We are sorry for your misfortune. Your statements are inappropriate and inaccurate. It is was apparent upon your arrival that there was some tension within your group...which leads us to believe the reason for your hastey departure had more to do with your group dynamics; not the villa. The pictures and description on the website are (and always have been) accurate and honest. Mulino di Anqua is a comfortable and luxurious villa. There are 2 villas on the had the opportunity to rent both villas to ensure your group's comfort. We offer our guests complete privacy as well as the opportunity to have services at the property. We (the owners) live in Florence (not at the villa). This Spring, there was an unusually high amount of rain in Tuscany (a record in all of Europe)…so the condition of the roads (throughout Tuscany) was compromised. The roads were repaired the next day (as promised).
To be clear: There is no situation in either villa where someone would have to walk through someone else's bedroom to get to the bathroom. There are doors on every bedroom and doors separating the stairs from each bedroom. A floorplan is available on the villa's website (the link is included on this (Homeaway's) listing)
We believe that if you had stayed at the villa you would have understood the property accurately and had the same great experience that every other tenant has had at the property.

Our family had an amazing vacation at Mulino di Anqua. Gerardo and his family could not have been nicer. The villa was beautiful and you could see the real love and care that Gerardo put into creating this place over 12 years a real labor of love. The saline pool was pristine and the kids and I enjoyed taking dips in the refreshing water each day after we returned from our adventures all over Tuscany.
The villa is nicely situated very close to a cute little town called Radicondoli which has amazing views especially at the restaurant La Pergola of which Gerardo knows the owner.
We hit just about every major town in Tuscany within reasonable driving distance (45 minutes or so) including Florence, Siena, Voltera, Montalcino. Montierigionni, San Gamignino and Bolgheri.
Gerardo thought we were crazy going to so many places in a week but being able to come back to the villa each night and relax made it easy to do.
We loved the villa dog Aki he was so friendly our kids love playing with him and Lisa and Gerardo's adorable daughter Eva. Gerardo was always their to provide advice and insight on what to do and where to eat (although it is impossible to have a bad meal in Tuscany).
Chrissie the property worker was also so nice and helpful and kept the pool and the rest of the grounds in pristine shape. Gerardo also cooked us an amazing meal our first night we came in, we were so tired from the drive that it was the perfect plan to have him prepare dinner which we highly recommend so you can relax your first night.
Our favorite restaurant while we were there was L'Antica Trattoria in Colle di Val d'Elsa just 25 minutes or so from the villa in a gorgeous piazza. The food and wine list were amazing and the owner was very nice.
All in all we could not say more about our experience at Mulino di Anqua it is a chance to truly immerse yourself in true high end Tuscan living with a beautiful local family. The fact that Lisa is american also helped to translate some assumptions and thoughts about the local towns and allow us to figure things out quicker.
