Ideal morning:
Walk downtown for a newspaper and pastries. Return to house for coffee in the sunlit breakfast nook. Take a long walk down to Lover's Point and along the coast trail to Asilomar Beach. For runners, try the trail that goes to Fisherman's Wharf and back (about 6 miles round trip).
Ideal afternoon outing:
Drive down highway one to Big Sur (about one hour). Check out Andrew Molera or one of the other amazing state parks. Stop for lunch on the way back at the River Inn. Enjoy a cool drink while dipping your toes in the Big Sur River. Stop at Point Lobos or downtown Carmel on the way home.
Ideal evening:
Twilight back nine at Pacific Grove Municipal. Dinner at Roy's in Spanish Bay resort. Walk thru the dunes on the lighted boardwalks. A nightcap by the fire.
Golf:
While it is true that some of the world's very best golf courses are within minutes of the house, don't ignore Pacific Grove Municipal, which is just down the street. The back nine features some of the most scenic holes you will find anywhere. Furthermore, the price is reasonable and the difficulty of the course is quite manageable for the high handicapper.
