Pleasure Point Dissapointment

We reserved this house several months ago from the previous owner. I won't complain about the communication issues with her but will say that once I got in contact with the new owner she was helpful.
The house itself is located well, a couple blocks from the ocean in a funky Santa Cruz neighborhood. The neighbors seemed friendly although the guy next door has a bunch of old cars in the front yard...covered with plastic tarps I suppose to make them less unattractive.
The first surprise was that the house is really only a partial house for rent...the garage has been converted into a unit and has full time residents. We would not have rented had we known this and found it very limitting to have neighbors so close, who's windows were open and on our patio...
The second surprise was the condition of the house. It was very dirty, the carpet is gross and the kitchen very out of date. The dishes we used were in the cupboard dirty so we had to rewash everything we used. I would say the pots and pans were pretty beat up to but that would make them sound better than they were. I suppose the best thing would be to plan not to cook in this house and certainly bring you own wine glasses as this house has only flutes...
The beds were okay although the linens were a long way from new. Again the carpet and the rugs in the bathrooms were a mess.
All in all a dissapointment. I give it the second star only because it has a new owner who seemed nice, perhaps, hopefully, she is going to remedy the issues...oh yeah the spa water was fairly cloudy but clear enough to see the sand in the bottom. We didn't get in...
Owner's Response: Hi David,
Sorry your stay didn't live up to your expectations. As you know we just bought the house and have honored the bookings of the previous owner. We took over the whole house contents in the sale and have had only two free days between bookings since the sale, so no time to do any work or improvements. I totally agree with you that the carpets could use a cleaning and the dishes are funky! Also there is NO LONGER people living in the guest unit! They left when we bought the house, and it is now available as a charming additional rental for guests renting the main house.Otherwise, it's empty:) Our intention is to redo the house interior in the fall so that by next summer it's been updated and everything (linens, dishes, cookware) is fresh and new. I appreciate the feedback! Santa Cruz (and Pleasure Point especially) is such an awesome place that I hope you come back sometime and have a better experience. I hope at the very least that you guys had a nice 50th. Again I appreciate the candid feedback, and assure you that under our new ownership many improvements will be made during the off-season. Thanks David,
Cheers!
~Hallie
