The Marsh House is a unique home located on Bayou Liberty in Slidell. Bayou Liberty leads to Lake Pontchartrain and is one of the top scenic bayous in Louisiana. It's about a 15 minute ride by boat to the lake. The bayou is perfect for fishing, jet skiing, kneeboarding, or taking a leisurely cruise to see the old homes on the bayou. It is a bird sanctuary with bird feeders and purple martin house. Slidell is thirty minutes from New Orleans but has the feel of stepping back in time to a slower way of life. Bayou Liberty has the annual pirogue races in June, close enough to get into the Poker Runs, and Santa on the Bayou in December. There are many good restaurants and antique shops in Olde Towne.
The home is perfect for entertaining....having two living rooms with fireplaces ,a formal dining area, and a huge kitchen. It is a 3500 square foot home, so it is very spacious. There is a screened porch off the living room. The house is raised and above the house is an observatory...the perfect place to watch the sun set, the moon rise and the idea place to catch the full moon. The house has a huge yard that is perfect for outdoor activities.
The Marsh House has a front and back porch which extends the length of the home. All the rooms open to the porches by French doors. Two of the bedrooms have king size, pillow-topped beds. There are two queen beds in two bedrooms and the last bedroom/office, has a futon.
There is a semi-private marina for two boats and an attached garage, in addition to the garage on the floor level. There is a public boat launch a few streets away. If you don't have a boat, there are places where pontoon boats can be rented. You can fish right off the dock. There is also a municipal fishing dock within a fifteen minute drive located on Lake Ponchartrain. There are also fishing charters available in the area that will put you on the famous speckled trout and redfish that the area is known for. There are many good restaurants with easy access as well as a really good fresh fish market that also sells the famous po boy sandwiches loaded with fried seafood of all varieties.
Guests are welcome to use the facilities at Chamale' Tennis an Social Club. It is located a few minutes drive from the house. There are four tennis courts, a large pool and a clubhouse to have your favorite beverage. Plan your own tennis event and end the day on the observatory watching the sunset.
There are two public golf courses within a fifteen minute drive as well as a multi-plex Imax theater, Sam's Club, and shopping malls.
The Marsh House is close to visit New Orleans or the Gulf Coast - about 30 minutes away. It's a wonderful home for family reunions or just getting friends together. Laissez bon temps roulez!
This place was even much better than the pictures! Super convenient and super roomy!! It started with the discovery of the elevator lift from the garage to the kitchen... OMG, that was a lifesaver for all our groceries and bags!! Then, all the rooms are very nice and comfy... everything works great (wifi, A/C, TV, laundry, bathrooms, etc.). The outside space is amazing! The large screened in porch is SO relaxing, as well as the large front porch. Lots of wildlife and adventure here!! I was joking when I said I was going to go on the dock to see some gators, but sure enough, I went down there and saw gators!!! We highly recommend this place and we'd be back!
I stayed for a week with my extended family 7 adults and 2 teens. The house was very nice, clean and well maintained. The setting was secluded and pretty, yet a very short drive to town. We worried that it would be too far from New Orleans to enjoy the city, but the drive did not seem long at all. As an added advantage we spent a day on the Mississippi gulf coast which was also an easy drive.
Over all a great experience and I would definitely rent this house again.
My family, 7 adults and 4 children, had a wonderful reunion at the Marsh House. When you first arrive you feel like you might be in the middle of nowhere, but once you get the lay of the land, this is the perfect place for a large group. We were all in town for my son's wedding. I came in a day early to insure conditions and do the grocery shopping before the clan arrived. No need to worry everything was GREAT! It was so peaceful to have coffee in the early morning, and share stories during happy hour on the screened in porch. Beds were comfortable and rooms were large. Having a stocked kitchen was a BIG plus for all the gourmet cooks we had. Need to add a picture of it to the site. There was even an elevator to help with hauling food and luggage, of course I did not find it until I had brought all that upstairs already and began the "snooping process". There was only one thing I would change about this property. With that many people we could have used one more refrigerator. If only to put all the drinks, adult beverages and kids juices, and leftovers in it.
This was an AWESOME property and great location. We are hoping to have a First Year Anniversary Reunion there again next year.I can't wait to hear Ole Jeremiah the Bull Frog at sunset on the deck again.
