Perfect Fun for All

  • 5 of 5

Great place! Beautiful beach and water. Good fishing and swimming off the dock. My 16 year old hard-to-please son said "I felt immediately comfortable in that house". My 21 year old daughter loved the kayaks right from the beach and at Pennekamp. We rented a boat one day and fished both bay and ocean side. We also moored up at a reef and snorkeled. We dove from a charter but next time I'm going to dive right from the rental boat and there's also some sand bars you can anchor at w/ other boats ocean side and hang out. Sunset from the hot tub is amazing. There's a great fish market and a fruit vegetable market that were great. Cooking in and dining out were both fun. We're already talking about our trip back to this house next year. Loved it.

Christmas in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We decided to spend Christmas in Key Largo in 2015, this is the second time we have rented this property and we love it. The house has everything you need and more. The property is amazing from the moment you enter the driveway and realize how beautiful and private this property is. The house sits on the bay the view is amazing especially the sunsets. It is close to activities and resteraunts. We ended up spending most of this vacation at the property and everyone in the family agreed it was the best family trip yet, and we average two or three a year. Serenity by the Sea gets a ten in our book.

Private and Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The house has a great structure, and the property is very private. The house is not the reason to rent this property...The views, the dock, and the privacy are. There is no reason to book a hotel or resort and pay nightly rates and fees when you get the total package at this house. The only issue we had were the groundskeepers of the house next door (on the left if facing the water) were using blowers, chainsaws, and other maintenance equipment very early in the morning and through out the day. Honestly though, the beautiful views and great location far, and by large, outweighed the noise.

Bottom line, if you do not mind making your own bed and throwing towels in the wash at the end of the stay, this place is an unbelievable value.

Perfect for a relaxing vacation

  • 5 of 5

Unanimously our family agreed - best vacation ever!! The location is perfect. Just a short drive to the grocery store and many amazing restaurants. Diane was extremely helpful during our vacation planning. The house was great - the kids loved the loft bedroom. It is an older home so if you're looking for modern furnishing etc probably not the place for you. If you're looking for relaxed comfort and a homey atmosphere it is perfect. The dock was great for watching the sunset with a glass of wine or enjoying a morning coffee. It was a bit hot to use the hot tub but we did try it out a couple of times. The beach is rocky with a lot of marine vegetation so bring water shoes. The kids loved chasing the iguanas that frequent the backyard. Our daughter even spotted 5 dolphins just off the dock. We rented a boat from Bump and Jump and were very pleased with their service. Highly recommend renting a boat for a few days to enjoy the reefs. Bump and Jump is one of the few companies that offers insurance for their boats - a must as the waters are surprisingly shallow.

The home and property were clean and well maintained. The gentleman who maintains it was very helpful and made sure we were satisfied. I should add the bed in the master bedroom is extremely comfortable. Best sleep I've had in ages.

Our kids really enjoyed going to the beach in Key West and the Turtle Hospital in Marathon. Diane made some great restaurant recommendations. Snappers was our favourite. The scallops Dakota are out of this world. Louie's Backyard in Key West was beautifully located but quite expensive so save it for a special night. We went straight from the beach and felt very underdressed. The Fish House was great as well but did not have an outdoor patio which was something we really enjoyed with the other restaurants.

Overall fantastic. The only thing missing for us was a pool but otherwise very satisfied!

Great stay, close to everything

  • 5 of 5

I tried submitting a review to VRBO twice and it was not posted, so I apologize for the lateness of this posting. We stayed from Christmas Day 2013 until the first week in January 2014. The house is secluded, but close to great attractions, diving, and restaurants. I had typed over a page of suggestions unfortunately last time and vrbo said they could not list business names. We have 2 small dogs and they were welcome at outdoor seating at the restaurants, in stores, and at attractions, make sure you research ahead of time, but very few places do not allow dogs which was wonderful for us and the dogs. The family who flew in to Fort Lauderdale were able to rent a "one way" rental to Key Largo (only major rental car company in town) and it was flawless on Christmas Day, if you rent cars a lot, you know this is very unique!

The dock and beach area with canoe is great to go out to the bay and paddle around. We rented 2 kayaks from a place across the street who was willing to deliver and pick up kayaks from the house. The beds downstairs were comfortable. We sent the younger people up the ladder and they seemed to enjoy all hanging out together in the loft and sleeping upstairs.Having 2 bathrooms was helpful with multiple people too. Enjoyed open floor plan where everyone could hang out in large kitchen without bumping into each other and the openness off the dining living area off of the kitchen. The hot tub was great on cool evenings and the A/C kept up with our demands for Midwest coolness inside the house. It was also great having the washer and dryer outside the front door on the covered patio. the table on the patio became my sorting and folding place so I could still enjoy looking at the bay and do what was necessary. It is an older home as someone else mentioned in a review, but that was part of the charm of being in the keys, not everything is brand new and looks like every other place you have been. I had hoped to stay at the house again this holiday if my family would come to their senses and let go of the idea of a "White Christmas!" That is why I had the time and drive to write this review for the third time, we are currently "snowed in in the end of march" in the midwest. Thanks for sharing your home with me, Susan
