About Maryalice Widness

My husband and I live in Bloomfield, Connecticut. I sell real estate and my husband is the Town Manager for the Town of Bloomfield, Connecticut.

Maryalice Widness purchased this house in 2008

Why Maryalice Widness chose Southwestern Vermont

I grew up in Vermont and my husband worked there after graduating from college so we decided to look there when we wanted to purchase a second home. We decided we wanted to live in a place where we could walk to things and be close to the kinds of activites we enjoy here in Connecticut like music and art, shopping and fine dining. The Manchester area was the logical choice for us because it was not too far from Connecticut and had many fo the same benefits.

What makes this house unique

We knew we wanted to be close to Manchester but we did not want to live there. It was too expensive and not 'Vermont' enough for us. Thus we choose Arlington. We also wanted a property that had good rental potential and this property accomplished that. We love how old this house was and yet it had an updated kitchen. We also love the charm and the size of the rooms. We can have a large crowd in this house and no one feels cramped. We walk to the library, to the rec center, the 7/11 and Church all the time and sometimes to dinner at the Arlington Inn.. There is a nice sense of community in the Village which we really enjoy. The house is just perfect for us!

Guestbook comments from the owner

The weather was perfect and we enjoyed our paddle trip on the river. I had a wonderful birthday dinner at the Arlington Inn. We look forward to visiting again. Thanks so much.

a beautiful home and an amazing stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, warm and cozy home. Its even more beautiful than in the pictures. We loved it very much and had an amazing family time. It is very spacious and very beautifully decorated with so many special antique pieces of furniture that give this house a special charm. It is very clean and well maintained and it has everything that you would need - the kitchen fully stocked, the bathrooms fully stocked, a lot of books, movies and games. We loved the library. We enjoyed many family meals in the dining room.

The weekend we stayed here was very very cold outside, but this house was so very warm - the heat is amazing! It made me very happy. There was a lot of snow and it was so beautiful outside, the whole scenery around the house.

The location is very nice - only 7-8 miles to Manchester, a wonderful little town, its like 25 mins drive to Bromley Ski and like 40 mins drive to Stratton Ski. The street is nice and quiet.

The owners were very easy to communicate with and answered all our emails very quickly. They have a caretaker that is on premises who greeted us when we arrived and was very nice and friendly.

The time we spent there was so relaxing.

We are really looking forward to coming again to this charming beautiful home.

Thank you MaryAlice and Phil for sharing your home with us.

What a great place

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, clean spacious home. Sheets clean, plenty of paper towels and toilet paper and tissues. Very close to town so you can walk to dinner. Very close to Bromley and Stratton ski areas. I would definitely stay again. 5 stars in my book. And the owners are really nice and provide a memo for visitors on local restaurants and activities. Definitely would go back again.

Wonderful, Vermont vacation- beautiful house.

  • 5 of 5

What a perfect vacation our family had in this lovely, fully equipped Vermont home --and in the gorgeous town of Arlington. We took our two young kids- 6 and 8-- and it was just right for them too. There was so much to do: beautiful parks, swimming nearby, charming shopping area, great restaurants, and the friendliest people around!

The home owners were also extremely gracious and accommodating to us-- I never had a problem reaching Ms. Mary Alice, the owner.-- she was extremely helpful and made our trip even more enjoyable. We would stay here again in a heartbeat-- and hope to come back sometime very soon!

Antiques, Art, Ambience

  • 5 of 5

The owners’ description and photos of the home are absolutely accurate. The kitchen and bathrooms are thoroughly up-to-date and sparkling clean. The house is filled with various nooks-and-crannies to enjoy relaxing in, and each of them is filled with antiques, art, and ambience. In addition the house is stocked with all sorts of things you may have forgotten to bring, sugar, spices, shampoo, hair dryers, board games, etc. It’s lovely to sit on the porch looking up the street to the historic and beautiful Arlington Inn, or sit in the back yard looking out over a meadow, with cows and horses grazing in it. We enjoyed our time in the house and yard as much as we did our time out sightseeing.
