The Aerie, which means “eagle’s nest” is located on David Cove in Cushing. If the real Maine — serene, an escape from the hustle and bustle — is what you are after, this is it. The only thing you hear is wind in the leaves, an occasional boat in the cove headed to Friendship Harbor, birds and the tide coming in. It's hard to explain the peacefulness of this house and the location, but it is real and it is wonderful. The cottage is graced with vaulted ceiling, white ship lap, hardwood floors and a plenitude of windows. The waterfront is just below the house and is a great place to swim and kayak. The kitchen, opening onto the deck and covered porch, is fully-equipped with all-new appliances. It also opens onto the great room, with a propane fired enamel stove, and the dining area. Virtually every room offers wonderful views of the cove. The first bedroom is located on this floor with two twin beds; this room is quiet and exceedingly comfortable. Upstairs, find a queen bedded master bed.

  • The den can also easily be used as a third bedroom: the couch turns into a queen-sized bed and a pocket-door ensures privacy from the rest of the house. Another bedroom is located on this floor with two twin beds; this room is quiet and exceedingly comfortable. Upstairs, find the master bedroom located in the belvedere, or cupola, which provides magnificent views of the waterfront. In fact, this room is why the owners named the house The Aerie, as it sits like an eagles' nest above it all. Find a queen bed here and built-in bureaus. Like the other bedrooms, special attention has been paid to make sure there is bedside lighting for reading.

Notes: The front yard leads to the waterfront; this is a great place to swim and kayak and there is a platform at the water's edge where guests can sit and take in the view. For swimming this spot is warmer than most — when the tide goes out the sun warms the rocks. When the tide comes back in, the water heats up! There is a spacious backyard and a deck with outdoor furniture. Most of the living is done on the first floor: the very spacious great room is open from the kitchen. The dining room is located off the great room and adjacent to the kitchen. There is seating for 4–6 people and wonderful views of the cove and harbor. The kitchen is fully-equipped with all the cooking needs of any type of chef. The kitchen leads out to the deck as well and is open to the great room. The great room is a perfect place to read, relax or entertain with two very comfortable couches and a propane-fired enamel stove. The den, located off the great room, has a chair and ottoman and a couch.
